If you need Gamescope for HDR support, can this demo work consistently and reliably with two HDR/VRR monitors with an nVidia GPU under Linux?

24. März 2025 - 22:28

I've been looking into this since last June went I got my second OLED HDR/VRR gaming monitor. There is a lot of confusion over this issue in this sub. Maybe a video showing what behavior I'm thinking makes it easier to communicate.

These are the specs of the rig in the video:

Operating System: Windows 11 Enterprise

Processors: 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900KS

Memory: 64 DDR5 5800Mhz

Graphics Processor 1: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition

Graphics Processor 2: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition

Motherboard: Asus Z790 Maximus Extreme

Primary Gaming Monitor: Asus PG42UQ 42" 4K OLED HDDR/VRR 120 hz

Secondary Gaming Monitor: LG 27GS95QE 27" QHD OLED HDDR/VRR 240 hz

PC VR: Valve Index, Meta Quest 3, Sony PS VR 2 using Sony PC adapter

In the demonstration here we have AC Shadows running at 4k max settings, max ray tracing using 3x MFG. Behavior I'm asking about. Everything is a window as the game is running windowed like most modern games. It's a lot clunkier with exclsuive fullscreen but still works just with windows getting out of position which doesn't happen with windowed games normally.

Note of two minor bugs. Wallpaper Engine will flash with certain animated backgrounds since I got the 5090. Nothing major but this didn't happen prior to the 5090. Also some artifacts in the AC Shadows menu which only happens when MFG is on. Doesn't happen in the game fortunately.

Appreciate the any guidance and explanation of what to expect and how this would work on Linux.

C&C 3 Tiberium Wars Multiplayer

24. März 2025 - 22:13

bit of a niche, but does anyone know if there is any way to make it work under Linux? Would also be great to get the LAN mode working with proton.

Quick Tip!: Improve the Desktop experience by forcing higher idle states on NVidia GPUs / Get more FPS with light overclock using the LACT Tool!

24. März 2025 - 22:04

Hello everyone! Just a quick tip: My desktop experience on my Lenovo Legion, when using the Nvidia GPU as my primary (and only) GPU, it was always a bit laggy. I finally found a tool that allows me to force a higher idle-clock on the Nvidia GPU and it got rid of all the slowness and stutters i used to get on KDE / Gnome!

It also allows you to do some light overclock, i just inputted the default recommended Lenovo Vantage Overclock profile Offset Clocks and got a 10~15FPS boost on the game I'm currently playing (Sonic Frontiers with the FPS unlock mod).

You can get the LACT OC tool here: https://github.com/ilya-zlobintsev/LACT

It's also available on Arch's AUR for an easier install :)

To force a higher idle clock, you simply head to the "OC" tab and select "Enable GPU Locked Clocks" and slightly raise the minimum GPU clock (i locked my RTX4070 at minimum 900 Mhz and the desktop lag went away).

If you want you can also raise the clocks offset from 0 to your preferred value, but be careful, it might cause your system to become unstable if you push it too high!

Hope this helps! :)

I have AMD RADV and AMDVLK installed - how to set one as default (and how to tell which is?)

24. März 2025 - 21:40

Hi.

I've been having so many random crashes with War Thunder i've tried installing amdvlk driver alongside the default 'RADV' to see if this helps..

I am running Arch Linux (Endeavor OS)

I installed multilib/lib32-amdvlk amdvlk packages ..

  1. I'm slightly confused though about how to tell which one is default - how can I do this ? - reading the archj wiki it sounds like it is amdvlk .. how to check ?
  2. How can I change which is default - I want RADV to be the default and load amdvlk as a launch option in some games - rather than other way round - is this possible ?
  3. Which launch options are needed in steam to choose version ?

i.e do I need to use for RADV ?

AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV VK_DRIVER_FILES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.i686.json
:/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json %command%

What do I use for AMDVLK ? i.e no options ?

cheers

How to connect with moonlight to sunshine when monitor is off

24. März 2025 - 21:08

In windows this is so simple since there is no security there but in linux the only way i found was to unlock the session using ssh or not let monitor to turn off. using dummy plug also has a downside cause whenever i want to login to my computer using main monitor i need to blindly enter my password and then when i am inside press my shortcut key to shift to my main monitor. I was looking for a simple solution like windows. Is there any? To be able to turn on main monitor with a shorcut key when it is off on lockscreen gdm?

Another logitech g923 PS/PC troubleshoot

24. März 2025 - 21:06

I cannot seem to get oversteer and new-lg4ff working together. I got both installed, however after installing lg4ff it tells me I do not have permission to make changes and the auto centring turns off unless I open oversteer and set it manually. Buttons work and everything I just can’t change settings lg4ff should make accessible. I installed lg4ff through yay if that makes a difference.

So I’ve uninstalled the module and reinstalled oversteer and I’m trying to install the module through dkms now. Except I keep running into the same error. Sorry shit quality it’s from my phone not a screen shot. If anyone is able to give me advice or telling me commands to put in to work around this and install it I would love that

The keys and headings also seem to be correct and updated/installed. If I’m understanding this correctly it should just be a few commands and then it should be installed?

I’ve also had it on pc mode ps4 mode and ps5 mode

Switching from Nvidia to AMD grafics card

24. März 2025 - 19:28

Hello, A couple of months ago i switched from windows to fedora, since im working with it. Since swapping i never really got big problems with the video games i play except 1 game that came out a couple of weeks ago (Monster Hunter) since then im thinking about how to improve the experience. Im currently sitting on a RTX 4080 Super with severe grafical problems. Im not 100% sure but i want to get a couple of opinions regarding this scenario: I got a proposal from a friend who is willing to buy my 4080 for round about the same price as the Card i want to buy: AMD Radeon 9070 XT

Do you think i should agree and swap and would it improve the efficiency for gaming on linux?

Can you enable gamemode globally? EndeavorOs

24. März 2025 - 19:14

Is there a way to enable gamemode globally, I have used it on steam with the launch parameter but was looking to have it enable for emulators (not emudeck). Also this is my first time using Linux, I installed EndeavourOs and liking the experience so far, already installed mangohud, solving the problem of incorrect time since I’m dualbooting, auto mount a drive I was using on windows, what else can I do as a Linux newbie to get to know how things work.

Setting up an NTFS SSD for Steam & work on Drauger OS

24. März 2025 - 18:35

Hey everyone,

I'm using Drauger OS (Ubuntu-based), and I have an SSD formatted as NTFS. I want to use it for two things:

  1. Installing and running Steam games
  2. Storing school/work projects

Should I keep it as NTFS or reformat it to something else? How do I properly mount it so that both Steam and my other applications can access it without issues?

Any advice or step-by-step guidance would be super helpful. Please explain like I'm five because I'm a complete noob at this. Thanks in advance!

Newbie here, need help with The Sims

24. März 2025 - 15:15

I have been trying to get my sims game to run consistently without much luck hope someone can help

I have the sims 4 on Ubuntu and steam with most of the packs. The game opens and I can even play for a few minutes but as soon as I try to travel or save my game, this happened once and I was able to fix I believe, it crashes. I have my settings turned down to medium. I am on the current stable version of proton. I also don’t have mods. I am not sure what I could be missing to make the game more stable because everything seems like it should work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
