centrilizing game library for the sake of not buying a game twice

25. März 2025 - 09:25

This is a long term problem I'm having without a good solution. After years of researching I was sticking to playnite (rinning it under VM because it doen't seem to work good under wine or any similar solution like bottles). That until I step at a steam family share issue with it... Playnite is not able to import shared games...

this is bad as today I have a damn lot of games (after 15 years buying games and able playing nothing...) and are spread over many stores like steam, gog, epic, EA, ubisoft... and there's PSN and Xbox (and very soon Nintendo store because my God! What's that NS2 rumors!? I want 2 of then! also to not play because time)

What are you using to solve this? I also love the randon pick from playnite as it bypass any time I spend chosing what to play next and often gives me very good surprises like Outer WIlds. What a nice game! ahem! The solution you use have a random picker?

Using the Vader 4 Pro controller on Linux?

25. März 2025 - 08:25

I currently do not have Linux installed but I am considering trying it out for gaming. One thing I'm unsure of is using my Vader 4 Pro controller on Linux. It's recognised by Windows as an Xbox controller but the Vader 4 Pro has additional buttons that can't be set unless I use a program called reWASD. reWASD needs to be running in the background though as the controller can't save the bindings on its board. reWASD isn't supported on Linux so what would my options be? Could I get reWASD to run via a Windows wrapper (or whatever it's called) and the Vader 4 Pro could "see" reWASD running?

Has anyone gotten HDR games to work without gamescope and with gnome 48?

25. März 2025 - 08:10

How did you get it working? I've tried a few games and some "switch to HDR" with the variable DXVK_HDR=1 variable set. But it's always washed out in those cases.

Loading ICC profile fails with error "inverting chromatic adaptation matrix failed".

25. März 2025 - 07:45

Hello everyone,

When i load my monitor's MSI icc profile, i am greeted with error mentioned in $Title. Screenshot link : https://imgur.com/a/VQJJ1UH

Same file was working fine with my older GPU i.e RX 6600. My current GPU is RX 9070.

Is it related to the known bug : https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/4057 ?

Game looks comparatively wash out and i am suspecting it is because RGB range is limited thus i was testing it with icc profile. However, proptest shows, so i am not sure if it's the cause :

95 Colorspace: flags: enum enums: Default=0 BT709_YCC=2 opRGB=7 BT2020_RGB=9 BT2020_YCC=10 value: 0

OS Info, if that matters :

  • Arch on Plasma 6.3.3
  • RX 9070
  • Ryzen 7600X
  • kernel 6.14.0
  • Mesa 25.1.0-devel (git-5b11c3ff0a)

Thanks in advance.

Very very bad performance on all games from flatpak steam with proton. Any ideas?

25. März 2025 - 07:41

Even though I am using fedora kinoite on my laptop for more than a year I am very casual noob user.

And now I decided to install fedora kinoite on my main PC. Everything was nice: i successfully installed OS on my fist drive, I partitioned and mounted my second drive, I added flathub to discovery, I installed nvidia drivers for immutable disto with the help of rpmfusion "howto" guide, then i dowlonoaded steam flatpak, turned proton on in compatibility setting and started downloading games I play.

But when I finished downloading games and launched them, they all had awful performance. I thought maybe the problem is with mounted drive but no matter where i download games they still have bad performance. Also for a test I downloaded the same game on my laptop but performance was perfect there without any proton tweaking even though laptop do not have graphics card. I guess a the proble is not about Nvidia drivers then. I am not sure if the problem is in proton I haven't tried to set up wine and etc.

Have I missed some important step in setting up my system? Any tips?

Question about GPU drivers

25. März 2025 - 04:18

I recently got a new pc with a 9070 XT in it and I’m switching over to linux too as my main os now. I was wondering how I would make sure I get the latest drivers for it, or if the 9070 XT drivers were even up to date yet for linux? Is it as simple as using AMD’s software to get the latest drivers? I’m planning to use Linux Mint if that helps as well, thanks!

Mods

25. März 2025 - 02:05

I have been wanting to mod my games for a while now. I have tried Vortex and Nexus Mods, but they don't really suit my needs. Most of my games are standalone GOG games, so I need an app that supports that, as well as all of my steam games. I have ALSO tried Mod Organizer 2 for Skyrim, but that doesn't seem to work either. Suggestions much appreciated!

I Think I Was Half Wrong About SteamOS's Impact

25. März 2025 - 00:41

It's not going to take over or anything, but I definitely thought like 5 million Steam Decks, a Lenovo SteamOS handheld and potetntially an HP/Omen one was completely out of the question back when the SD was announced.

I would LOVE to completely transition to Linux, but ...

25. März 2025 - 00:18
I simply love Linux...

My main PC is currently on Win10, which is nearing its end. I can't say that I've enjoyed my time on Windows, quite the contrary, if I had to modify anything in the OS, it was actually a huge pain in the ass. The UI is crap, with no flow to it, with some menus straight out of the 2000s, ported from Win XP and the others just loosely slapped on. The only redeeming quality is, in my opinion, its compatibility with large corps and their programs, as Windows is, simply said, almost a monopoly.

I've looked at Linux for quite some time now... especially at Ubuntu and its flavor Zorin OS. So much so, that I've already completely replaced Windows with it on my university-laptop for over a year, which I mainly use to take notes, write on it in convertable mode and code small programs.

And for all of this Zorin just... works! It is fluid, 10x more responsive and cleaner than windows. A clean install doesn't come with any bloatware or unnecessary features pre-installed (Yes, I'm looking at you, Edge and CoPilot) and I can install any app I want, most often than not even FOSS, to fit my exact needs. I can make it look however I want, and whatever I choose, be it Mac-like, Windows(10/11)-like, gnome-like or anything inbetween, it's just clean, modern and gorgeous to look at.

Xournal++, Obsidian and rclone to seemlessly sync my device with the cloud... you name it, it's all there and it just functions as you expect it to. It's all highly customizable so it precisely fits my needs and as a dev myself I also don't shy away from tinkering via the terminal from time to time, to get the exact result I want.

Setting up a cronjob to periodically bisync your vault you created with Obsidian with your google drive? Sure! Writing small scripts to automate some behaviour on startup? Easy! You wanna delete the entire OS recursively? Of course, it's your PC, go the fuck ahead! /s Jokes aside, I've never felt this freedom at ANY point I was on Windows.

Linux just does what you tell it to do, as you expect by being the literal Admin of you PC. Windows on the contrary stands in the corner, with crossed arms and pouting, like a little toddler, while you try to get it to execute even the simplest tasks.

... so why can't I switch to it?

Now. Why haven't I converted my main PC to Linux yet too? - Simple. Because I also stream in my freetime and most of the games I stream I play together with my community. That means: Blockbusters. AAA-Games. All that stuff, that I also really enjoy playing, for their visuals and spectacle especially.

And yes. I realize that Steam especially have put a ton of work into Proton and making 85% of all games on Steam compatible with Linux. And most of the time this also works fine, as long as you stick with Steam. Hell, during my last semester I played the living shit out of Brotato, on my university-laptop. But. not. With. AAA. Games. From. Other. Companies.

It is so frustrating to regulary read something along the lines of:

"Rockstar Games implements kernel-level anticheat, breaks Linux support completely."

"EA implements their own Anticheat into all recent titles, makes it blocked by Wine and Proton."

... and many other news like that.

In short: The games I want to play, HAVE to play to some degree, don't work. All major Battlefield titles, including the coming one, besides 4. THE FINALS crashes every 3rd round and there is no fix for it. HELLDIVERS 2 is stable, but I cannot get >40 fps. I could go on. It's all working somewhat, but not as a whole. And this just pisses me off. Because otherwise NOTHING would hold me back of switching entirely. It's just those few titles. I even already re-setup my OBS (which ofc also runs smoother than it ever did on windows).

And as I get less and less freetime and a bigger and bigger portion of said shrinking freetime is consumed by streaming, there is even less incentive to dual-booting, as I'm doing currently. Because IF I turn my main PC on, I'm streaming. If I'm streaming, I'm playing the aforementioned games. No bueno.

The rare times I'm not streaming I usually watch YouTube or work on small pet-projects, which I could (and would love to) do from Zorin.

But is it really worth switching your OS for that..?

Any opinions? Did you face a similar problem? What would you do in my situation, bite the bullet and switch (unwillingly) to Win11, because of security, or is there an idea that I missed? Is there any potential for the compability of mentioned games to increase in the near future?

No more unexpected suspend by idle in games?

24. März 2025 - 22:52

I think Steam released an update which inhibits idle stuff while you're playing games.

A month or so ago I tested Balatro from Steam an my laptop just suspended without an issue, today I remember Steam did some small update and now when I play Factorio there's "Steam: Playing a game" in idle inhibitors in Plasma battery applet.

Yippee?
