Can Steam pre caching shaders cause this problem?
Yesterday, I installed and played halflife rtx. Suprisingly everything went well no artifacts ok performance. Even recorded few clips to flex on my friends via OBS.
But today without changing anything on drivers etc. Only worked on few VMs through virtmanager. I click play and there is weird artifacts that were mot there yesterday. Only thing changed was the installed new shaders.
Using Nixos 570 drivers with 4060.

LTS vs regular ubuntu support for newer AMD card in next few months?
Update: thank you for responses! I'll try more cutting edge version until drivers come to LTS one, and this will be good way to trial linux on my new PC as well.
Been on Kubuntu on my older PC for few weeks and *loving* it. I don't miss being asked about copilot, forcing MS account sign up, etc. I'm on LTS version because it feels more stable than normal (tried both).
I'm getting new PC, which has new AMD Radeon RX 9070. Does LTS kernel gets updated with drivers for these as well in next few months, or only normal ubuntu version?
Note that I did research on manually installing drivers, open source versions, etc, and that's fine - my question is specifically on Ubuntu support for newer hardware in LTS vs normal.
I tried googling this but i'm getting older ubuntu versions, and mostly about nvidia issues (which sounds good as i'm switching to Radeon!)
This is closest i found to an answer: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1255956/do-i-need-to-manually-install-amd-gpu-driver-updates-on-ubuntu-20-04 but it doesn't tell about normal vs LTS.

Battle.net Update Issue After System Updates (LM 22.1 Cinnamon)
Linux kernel 6.14 is a big leap forward in performance and Windows compatibility
Games randomly freezing
DISCLAIMER:
I have Nvidia graphics card! I don't know if my problem is related to that, but I know that there is a lot of problems with these cards and unfortunately there's no way for me to upgrade, so I'm asking for help here.
So basically every game that I launch that is not natively supported on linux and that I ran with proton sometimes just randomly freezes (it happens actually randomly, sometimes I can play for hours without a single issue and sometimes it freezes so fast, that I can still see the splash screen) and I have to open steam on another workspace and stop the game from there. The game just freezes while playing and keeps playing the last sound, so the music usually keeps going and all the effects also won't go down immediately. Also, if I switch workspace after the freeze, and go back the window with the game won't be rendering at all, but it doesn't matter, since I have to restart the game anyways.
My system:
Intel Core i5 8300H
Nvidia GTX 1050 4GB
16 GB of RAM
Archlinux with i3wm (and also picom composer)
Edit:
I have just remembered, that before the recent update of Ultrakill, i could fix the problem there by playing on proton-5.13 and I setting PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1, but I'm not sure if the last one actually helped or was unneeded

Bazzite with NVidia is an amazing experience
I've tried CachyOS with auto login, Steam autostart and boot into BPM which worked fine but wasn't the same (also much overhead through KWin composer). Then I've seen that Nobara HTPC 41 had the new (and Alpha state) NVidia fixes for gamescope and the whole SteamDeck UI and I rocked it now for half a year. But updates got longer and longer and it took way ahead of 1 hour until I could game again. Not what I want from a living room console-pc.
Something told me to look up if Bazzite implemented those patches as well ... and it turns out they did! System is running amazingly! Finally Bazzite is running on NVidia GPUs - no AMD GPU needed anymore.
Only caveat is that it is build upon nvidia-open! Which means you need a 20 series GPU or newer in order to use it!
Sure stuff like HDR is still missing. But its just a matter of time until it will work!
Nothing against Nobara, but yet alone to see what happens at boot (updating system, updating Steam, doing something else) is just gold and an absolute necessity for me.
They've even managed ot fix MangoHUD to display the wattage consumption for an AMD CPU and a NVidia GPU! It finally works (surely gets updated on Nobara and CachyOS as well)! So happy :)
Only disadvantage is that I need to update Proton-GE all the time via desktop. Would love to have a package which would get updated with the newest version instead. Like proton-cachyos or [cachyos|aur]/proton-ge-custom-bin. Except this I am super happy to finally have an on par experience with my SteamDeck on my living room tv :)
If you want a living room/console-pc experience and don't have a AMD GPU, don't overlook Bazzite anymore :)

9070 XT poor gaming performance on Linux
Hello everyone. I'm trying to get a Linux install going for gaming. Wanting to get rid of Windows. I've tried Bazzite and Cachyos. In both operating systems I'm getting very poor gaming performance. Like 15 or 20 fps less than Windows. When I pull up Mangohud, my GPU is not being fully utilized. It's only at 80 percent usage and using like 250 watts instead of the 330 it's supposed to.
I'm currently on Cachyos KDE. I've updated Mesa to 25.1. And I'm on kernel 6.14. Using a 9800x3d and gaming on a 3440 x 1440 monitor. I'm also using Gamescope and HDR. I thought maybe it was a Gamescope issue so I tried without that and HDR and still same problem.
Is this just a case that the drivers need more work because the 9070 is so new? Or is there something wrong with my system that I'm not getting full performance?

Why is the Linux native version of Counter-Strike: Source using DXVK?
Title. This is a laptop from 2009. It supports OpenGL but not Vulkan. The game uses Vulkan tho, which is software rendered and runs horribly. Even a pirated copy of the game runs at 60 fps. Anyone know why? Half-Life seems to be doing the same thing, as it's not as smooth as it should be on a laptop 11 years newer than the game.

Any Shadowplay/Instant Replay alternatives for Linux Fedora?
I've been meaning to get some sort of insta replay of the last 30 seconds, though i didn't really find much, tried to install ReplaySorcery before but it didn't quite work out, and Steam replay has really buggy audio for some reason, so anyone know any other alternatives?

Is multi monitor VRR for NVIDIA still broken?
It's been almost a year since I last checked, but at the time VRR just didn't work if you had a second monitor plugged in. Has the situation improved at all with new drivers?

6.14: fsync ready. whats needed now wine-/protonwise to test?
as 6.14 kernel is out (https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2025/03/linux-kernel-6-14-out-late-due-to-pure-incompetence-dont-get-too-excited-about-linux-gaming-boosts/). i would like to test ntsync now.
- what is needed now to test something with ntsync enabled?
- Is Wine / Proton / Proton Experimental already ntsync-capable? Or Proton-GE? Or something else?
- same thing with wines wayland-support?
