Oversaturated bloom in a Unity game (Kingdom Two Crowns)

28. August 2025 - 14:50

An issue with otherwise fully functional game. For some reason, the bloom effect of the sky in Kingdom is in overdrive. Attached two pictures for illustrative purposes, Win11/Linux Mint, both are at about the same time of day in-game, but, can't really tell in the Linux Mint screenshot. Which, if you've played this game is somewhat hampering, trying to figure out what time of day it is, do you have time to do stuff before nightfall? It also makes other objects hard to see, similarly to the columns in the background, but more important, gameplay wise. Other lighting effects signifying stats and such in-game. The game is based on Unity, but I could find only development related issues while googling, and no-one else seems to have reported this about their gaming experience. Running on bog standard AMD CPU, Nvidia 3060 PC, nothing special. I've been running Linux for whopping two weeks now, so apologies if this is just a general thing I've not set in Mint, like, RGB/YUV, or something like that.

Kitty's Last Adventure - A cute survivor like that can follow you everywhere on the Steamdeck! (Playable in different ways - even if some ways are weird and you shouldn't)

28. August 2025 - 14:29

I'm a solo dev who worked for 2 years on Kitty's Last Adventure and after one year in Early Access and more than 100 reviews, my game is officially out in Full Release today!

You can play the game using either :

  • the right stick
  • the left stick
  • the crosspad
  • the left trackpad (dunno why you would do that)
  • the right trackpad (works but don't do that, please)
  • Using any other controller and do the same!

It’s been a wild ride. I started this project thinking it would be a “small” game, and it turned into 2 years of updates, balancing, bug fixing, and adding way more content than I originally planned. Seeing people play it, leave feedback, and come back after each patch is honestly what kept me going.

Performance was one of my biggest worries, especially in the late game when you’ve got a screen full of weapons firing and enemies swarming. I’m happy to say it runs smoothly, tested by me, tested by Steam, and most importantly, tested by a ton of players.

I don't have any linux build but from friends (and the game working on the steamdeck), it works prefectly on Proton!

Football Manager games past 2018 not running on Linux Mint for some users [Solved]

28. August 2025 - 14:22

Hey,

I'm just posting a solution I came across for an annoying issue so it can be indexed for the future so other users don't have to suffer for three hours.

Some users can not get Football Manager to boot on Linux via Steam Proton for versions 2019-2024 (these versions were not made to be linux native unlike prior ones).

This turns out to be due to having it installed on an external drive. This causes steam not to find the .exe with Proton.

The problem can be easily fixed by simply installing Football Manager on your primary drive and running it via proton like normal.

Gaming on Linux is not ready for the masses

28. August 2025 - 13:19

I wanted to switch from my Windows 11 machine to a Linux box which probably might stem from a nostalgic place of working on Linux and desire to move away from Microsoft's shenanigans. I had this brilliant idea of trying it on my older laptop before I switch my PC.

For the last 4 days, I was trying to install my favorite game, World of Warcraft, and check out this wonderful feeling of playing on a Linux box:

- I began with installing latest Ubuntu LTS which turned out to be a mistake(you'll see later)

- Having the OS, I was ready to start installing Steam and trying out Proton but wait, what is Snap or Flatpak? I'll just go grab the DEB from Steam's website, that worked great.

- With Steam installed, I download the Battle[.]net installer and launch it via Steam+Proton. I chose the latest stable version 9.0-something. Installer worked fine, I read I had to close it and point the non-Steam game configuration to the launcher executable. Great, I do some find commands to see where the installer is and do some string replacement in the Steam config and voila, launcher works but I can't login as there was no button. I search and find out that the launcher uses some Chromium engine that is not supported on Proton 9. I switch to Proton Experimental and it works great. I login and download the game.

- Once downloaded, I eagerly launch it and surprise, the game crashes after a few seconds. I search again and again and I find out I am missing Vulkan drivers. I go grab them and game launches! But I have horrible performance even in the game menu. Time to debug the issue.

- Turns out I am on the Nouveau GPU drivers...

- because the legacy Nvidia driver was not available on it and I had to reinstall to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and re-learn how to downgrade and lock the kernel to version 5.15 for my Nvidia driver to install and work.

- Great, a day later, I reinstall the OS, downgrade the kernel, install the Nvidia legacy driver, install Vulkan drivers, install Steam, download the launcher and launch it... it does not work. Version 9 doesn't work, Experimental doesn't work, Hotfix doesn't work, nothing worked as before.

- Time to try out Proton-Ge but no, you need to manage versions manually!? There must be a nice UI which manages this for you and I find ProtonUp-Qt but you need Flatpak... I install it and download latest Proton-GE 10-15 version.

- I configure Steam to use Proton-Ge, launch the launcher and... it doesn't work... I tried 10-14, 10-13, 10-12, 10-11, 10-10.... I give up.

- Time to search for alternatives, ChatGPT tells me that the community agreed way of supporting non-Steam games on Linux is Lutris. Time to try out Lutris.

- I install Lutris via Flatpak, works great. I install the Battle Net launcher and start it... it doesn't work, I can't login to download the game.

- I give up

Gaming on Linux is here but it is not ready for the masses(and probably will never be).

Planning my first PC build, wanted to make sure it works with Linux

28. August 2025 - 13:00

Hello! I'm currently planning my first ever PC build. I've done a bit of research and put together a build that I think is good, but I don't know that much about computers so I'd love to get a second opinion of it.

This is the build I currently have planned:

  • Chassi: Lian Li LANCOOL 216 RGB White
  • Processor: Ryzen 5 7600
  • GPU: PowerColor Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WIFI
  • RAM: Kingston 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30
  • SSD: Kingston NV3 M.2 NVMe
  • Processor cooler: DeepCool AG300 150W
  • PSU: Corsair RM750X ATX 3.1 750W

I'm planning on using Linux with this PC, currently leaning towards Bazzite, and i wanted to make sure all the hardware works with Linux. I also need to use the Wifi on the motherboard and would like for the Bluetooth to work as well, so it's especially important that the motherboard works with Linux

How to make dualsense haptics work

28. August 2025 - 11:52

Does anyone know how to make haptics work with dualsense on linux, i have came across many posts but nothing helped, i'm using it with wire, steam input disabled. I tried addiding udev rules from dualsensectl but they did nothing. I tried it in tlou part 2 remastered and it says to re-enable the sound playback device and in stellar blade it doesn't work either, only adaptive triggers work. I also tried addiding this to wireplumber, but it didin't do anything, i suspect it's outdated now. If anyone knows how to fix it, i would be very grateful

What is this pop up? My game wont run.

28. August 2025 - 11:45

So I asked earlier, but I still wasn't able to figure it out. I installed steam via the terminal. My computer is relatively new and I have not installed anything else other than google and steam. I changed the comparability setting to Proton experimental. I also followed the Proton sites and followed what others did. I changed the launch option to:

SteamDeck=0 %command%

However, even after updating my nvidia graphics card driver, the game will not launch. The white pop up that you see there will show up for half a second, and then the game will stop running immediately. I have heard some things about Wine and wndx and winowX 11, but I'm not sure how or why to install them, if its even necessary.

Sorry! This is my first time using steam and a linux laptop in general so- I apologize if this is all stupid. Also, what is a distro?

Is this sufficient for the specs?:

PC grandma on linux

28. August 2025 - 10:21

Greetings linuxers, Honestly got put on linux and now I'm clueless I know nothing about computers other than that its acting up.

-Vesktop only streams black screens

-Vesktop or regular downloaded discord do not show game activity from steam.

-While playing games steam keeps opening the " add to steam" screen no matter how many times I close it. ( Not fun for my warframe missions)

I know no PC terms or anything about computers and honestly just want to play games. Was told windows wont work well on it ? Or an old version, not sure.

Any tips or advice (in grandma language) would be so so appreciated as I am clueless D: Thank you in advance!

Kinda off topic, might i be able to run overwatch on Freebsd?

28. August 2025 - 07:43

I've been looking at Freebsd lately and how it works. There is linuxlator and other projects that bring steam to Freebsd.

I like trying all operating systems, Freebsd now has kde and i am just curious if this might be possible. If yea i maybe can try to dual boot freebsd and Linux, or Freebsd and windows. I think.

Linux freeze (nvidia drivers ?)

28. August 2025 - 07:16

Hello everyone, I recently installed Bazzite and I regularly experience freezes. These issues occur randomly, especially when the PC is running slowly. I've seen online that this might be due to the drivers. However, the solutions suggested to fix this problem are not very clear. I have a somewhat special configuration: I have a 7945XH CPU (a mobile CPU, as I have a Modt motherboard) and an RTX 5070 graphics card. There are no problems with the installation itself, but they occur during updates. I wanted to know if I could block the driver updates until a correct version is available, as I would still like to update my system.

Excuse my English with is a translate message.

OW2 freezes on startup

28. August 2025 - 06:40

Hey Everyone, I am just on my first install of bazzite, and I want to download overwatch. I downloaded it through steam and my specs are:

AMD RYZEN 7 4800H 8GB Ram DDR4 Nvidia 3050 Laptop GPU

Overwatch Setup: GE-Proton10-13 Launch option: DXVK_HUD=compiler LD_PRELOAD=“” %command%

Basically what happens, i launch the game, it runs okay, and after around a minute the fps in the menu drop to around 1-3 and then it crashes after 2-3 minutes of being frozen. There is also a little indicator of the shaders loading in the bottom, when I boot the game it goes down from 50% to 24%. Anyone know how to fix this or what is going on?
