best Linux distro primarly for gaming on an Acer Nitro V15 gaming laptoo (ANV15-51-99VQ)?
i9-13900H
32GB of DDR5 at 5200 MT/s
RTX 4050 (75W)
in terms of driver compatibility with the laptop (I'm basically happy if my keyboard backlight, trackpad, and brightness adjustment for the native display, and Wi-Fi + Ethernet function) and driver compatibility with the NVIDIA card.
intensive and light games will be played. prefer a high compatibility for games.
would prefer the distro in general to be customisable but also somewhat Windows like (beginner friendly)
also need a good replacement for nitrosense but I've read and have been told general Linux utilities an cover most of that in terms of fans control, performance profiles and the works.
coming from an even lower end machine than the one i have now, very used to configuring both my machine and the games I play! also the types of games I play, older ports and console titles require quite a bit of configuring to get them where I want them. I like to think im pretty good with physical and digital tinkering. I know Linux is not a plug and play experience/solution! half of the reason for making the jump is leisure, Linux will be something to do in my down time with uni, hoping to get into ricing and the such, love customising. other half of the reason for making the jump is just being so fucking sick of windows 11 - windows bloat in general kills me and
much prefer something that's not trying to cosplay as macos, (really shittily too, as a macos user also!) and additionally really sick of how W11 navigates (settings). Will probably dual boot with Windows 10 for compatibility and comfort tbh.
system will also be used for leisure (video playback and reading). On the point of being windows like, I'd probably like a tiling manager similar to that on windows? if that's what you guys call it? I just miss the way window snapping was back on 10. Now it's all picky and floaty.
at the moment I'm between the NVIDIA based distrobution of Pop!_OS and Bazzite, which has been making waves, but I don't care for it mimicking SteamOS all that much. don't care for the Big Picture mode stuff, so I went with GNOME as opposed to KDE for my enviroment.
IK you guys might suggest Mint since I want something so Windows like, or lighter Windows ISOs like Tiny10/11, but I've found these expereinces generally lacking. VERY open to other distro suggestions!
(sorry about the paragraphs in bursts! I'm aware of the limits of Linux gaming when it comes to online play and the such, so no worries there either)

CS2 Broken on Linux
When I installed for the first time around 3 months ago things were looking fine. I used to get good frame rates and no problems as such.
But with the update a week ago 0n 31st July things started falling apart. Before that even Wayland video drivers were working. After this I am getting 30 fps sometimes 60 fps instead earlier I was getting 200 fps on average. On top of it even lags on launching and closing.
Issue raised on the github: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/4129 and https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/4131 .
System Info:
Ryzen 7 7435hs
rtx 3050 mobile
16gb ram
Cachyos 6.16 kernel with updated drivers.
It is truly disheartening to know that the most popular games on steam-linux is broken af.
PS: I disabled shader precaching in the settings. Would it matter because it downloads few gbs everytime I launch and takes even longer to compile it.

God of War 2018 ~45fps on Bazzite. Ran significantly better on Windows.
I don't wanna go back to the devil's OS. I've tried disabling split lock and only using one monitor (the other one has a different refresh rate). I use a RTX 3070 laptop. I've heard it's most likely a Wayland issue, is there anyway to use X11 on Gnome ?

What's the point of alternative launchers like Lutris ?
When Steam does exist ?
For example i wanted to play an abandonware from 2007 (Sega Rally Revo), with Lutris/Heroic/etc impossible to make it work.
I just went on Steam -> Add a Non-Steam game -> Play. It worked instantly.
I understand the point of Heroic which is to get "easy access" to other launchers, but in fact, for me, i ALWAYS get into troubles to make something work.
Steam just make everything work out of the box, i can even download GOG Launcher and add it to Steam instead of using another app.
I honestly think that Lutris/Heroic/etc make everything much more complicated than it really is and that Steam is the only real easy solution for Linux gaming.
But maybe i am wrong, that's why i post here.

Linux gaming is awesome
So I tried the Black Myth Wukong Benchmark tool on my new PC. Screenshots are in the order Windows, Linux Mint, CachyOS.
Not sure why the VRAM usage is only showing on Linux. I use a 24 inch 100 hz monitor btw.

Help a dad out - Minecraft split screen with controllers
Hey all, I've got two boys who are itching to play Minecraft and a PC running Arch which they currently use for gaming (steam+lutris stuff).
What's the right "stack" for split screen Linux Minecraft and controllers currently? Prism? MultiMC? I think I need a mod for controller support? Too many options, too little time with the day job. Point me in the right direction, I can figure the details out - I just can't be testing a whole bunch of different combinations.
They don't have mojang accounts (or own the game) currently, but that's a minor issue if I know what stack is needed.

Looking for supported mmo mice (configuration software on pop os)
Hey all!
Recently I've picked up mmos into my gaming rotation alongside my typical 3d modeling workflow and I figured it's time for a mouse upgrade! I'm looking for something with ~12 reprogrammable side buttons (macro support), multiple on-board configuration profiles, an infinite scroll wheel, and supported reprogramming software on pop os. I don't care if its wired or wireless, rgb lights or not, or anything consmetic like that. I'm purely looking for function. I know razer and logitech have piper and openrazer support, but I was looking for something a bit more budget friendly if it's available. I saw redragon had some good options as far as price and functionality, but I couldn't find any support for configuration software.
If i need to, I can look into VMs or something of the like, but I'd prefer to keep it simpler if possible. Also, if the mouse has on board memory, in theory, could I configure it on a windows machine and then plug it into my linux machine and have it work fine? Cus that'd be quite simple as well I guess lol
If you've got a recommendation or something else for me to consider, lemme know!
Thanks a bunch,

PCI Express 8.0 Aims For 256 GT/s In 2028. How does that help gamers on Linux?
Setting games to high resolution crashes Nvidia GPU driver
Kernel: 6.15.9.arch1-1 and tried 6.16.arch1-1 in testing with no success
nvidia-open: 575.64.05-4
NVIDIA 4080 super, cpu AMD 7800x3d
KDE Plasma 6 wayland
All of a sudden, not sure why but this started happening today, I was in the middle of playing some games, the gpu crashed, and now I cannot launch any games without it crashing the gpu driver like shown in the logs. I tried turning off adaptive sync, lowering the refresh rate, but no success. I was considering downgrading my drivers and kernel, but I haven't updated anything since a couple days ago.
Could it be a monitor issue? I hooked up the cable to a different cheap 1080p spare monitor I have lying around and the issue is resolved, but it is not exactly ideal. The monitor I want to use is a Dell Alienware aw3225qf. Testing after I found this out shows that games on the main monitor in 1440p windowed mode will run fine but go to 4k windowed or fullscreen will crash the drivers. With this in mind how would I solve this?

Portal: Revolution drops Native Linux support to focus on Proton
Are Z1 extreme handhelds still worth it in 2025?
I’m looking to get a handheld gaming PC and originally I was planning on getting a steam deck, but given that the specs are dated at this point, I wanted the most powerful hardware I can get for sub-1000 dollars. I came here to ask are Z1 extreme handheld still worth picking up in 2025? e.g. the ROG Ally X
OR
Is it worth waiting for Z2 extreme handhelds, like the XBOX ROG Ally X?
What do you all think? I really appreciate the feedback!

trying to setup a fitgirl repack game, but my system (mint) gives me "error 5: permission denied" each time its nearing finishing, any ideas on how to fix it?
Steam interrupts me playing a game by wanting me to update my controller firmware that i don't use.
Multiple times now has Steam interrupted me while playing. It wants to close Steam and update my controller firmware but i have no controller plugged in? What gives?
I recently switched to Fedora 42 (KDE), never before have i had this issue. It also looks super sketchy so i've never updated. I have a controller but it's not plugged in and it's certainly not a Sony controller, i have a Logitech F310 that has never been used once since the Fedora install.
What can i do here? I don't want to update the firmware for something i don't use, in fact i barely use a controller, and i don't want to keep being interrupted in the middle of a play session... I'm really confused by this.
I'm unsure if i need to provide more info like it says in the guide on the sidebar but here goes:
Distro: Fedora Linux 42 (KDE Plasma Desktop Edition)
Kernel: 6.15.8-200.fc42.x86_64
GPU Driver: NVIDIA 575.64.05
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core
I installed Steam from RPM Fusion.
