Need some help choosing a desktop enivronment
So I have a RTX 4050, and I want to know which desktop environment is suitable for my GPU.
I have heard that some environments are more suitable than others and I am planning on switching to CachyOS from Windows 11. I program with VS Code (Python, GO) and game casually (no anticheat games). I don't want to sacrifice performance due to my NVIDIA GPU

Texture Flickering in Ghostrunner
Hello everyone, I've started noticing texture flickering in some games, as shown in the video. This happens in Ghostrunner and Stray, but for example, it wasn't present in Yakuza 0, where everything was fine. I've tried both on X11 (with compositor enabled and disabled) and on Wayland. The example in the video is from launching through Steam, but it's the same in Lutris. The game was purchased on GOG.
Specifications:
- GPU: RX 6500 XT 4GB
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5500
- RAM: 16GB
- OS: Endeavour OS (up to date)
Has anyone encountered something similar or knows a solution? Thank you.

Ubuntu 24.04: Somehow managed to break my Genshin Install
Okay, so I'm running Genshin on Ubuntu 24.04 via a flatpak install of AAGL. Laptop has an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U CPU and an AMD Phoenix1 GPU.
I got a system prompt about updating packages, which I foolishly accepted, and since I've been done, Genshin has been crashing out roughly a minute after login each time with the message
'You have disconnected
Data Error, please log in again
Error code: 10010-4001'
This happens after Genshin starts up fine, logging in goes fine, I manage to wander around with everything looking and functioning fine for like 30 seconds, and then the above error.
Any idea how I can fix it? I'm computer literate but not particularly well-versed in Linux.
For the record, here's a log of what got changed.

Windows Refugee
So I am one of the many people who is affected by the windows 10 eos coming up soon. It sucks because I just built a new gaming PC last year with a motherboard that SHOULD have supported W11. All research I did said that it would. It's a fairly up to date system and I splurged on the motherboard specifically to avoid this issue. But my bitching aside, suffice to say I'm not spending the money on yet another PC this soon so I am looking into my options with Linux gaming. I guess I'm wondering where it's at in 2025, if there are any good distros someone can suggest that I can set up with minimal headache, what to know about security concerns, and what kinds of popular games are unsupported completely without any workarounds. I know wine and especially proton has brought Linux gaming a long way but I understand there are still many games that won't run. Particularly multiplayer ones that utilize kernal level rootkits--I mean anticheat. Any help, advice, or guides anyone can offer would be welcome because I am very lost to say the least. Sorry that I don't have any one specific question i'm just not totally sure where to start lol.

Linux mint either not loading games or taking a long time to load them
I switched to linux mint from windows 10 and have been running into brick wall after brick wall.
I tried Half Life 2, ol reliable, it takes its damn time to load and when I hit a loading trigger it is either freezing or taking too long to load that I have closed it before it has had time to finish.
other games are taking minutes to boot in the first place.
Ive updated my kernal, changed drivers and theyre either not doing anything or the difference is so minuscule I cant tell the difference.
Can someone please help? Is bad performance and bad loading times common?

Civ VI (Epic/Heroic) crashes after drivers update
I have issues with Civilization VI from Epic Games Store running via Heroic Launcher (flatpak). At first game installs and runs without any problems. This continiues until driver update. When I install update I run flatpak update. All the games works as always, but Civ VI returns a DX11 error: Display Device Has Failed. Please Ensure Your Display Drivers Are Up To Date. Exiting.
Nothing I try to do helps and in the end all I can do is delete everything, including configuration and saved games and then install the game. Fresh installation works untill I update drivers again - then the issue comes back.
System information:
System: Arch Linux
Kernel Version: 6.15.9-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.4 (Wayland)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (nvidia-open 575.64.05-4)

Proton version: GE-Proton10-10 (Proton Latest), I've tested GE-Proton9 and GE=Proton8 as well

Airpods quality drops when entering into discord call
Hello everyone!
I am recently using CachyOS as my daily driver for a month or so, and I use Airpods, pro and normal versions as headphones.
I generally play, watch videos and do my daily stuff without issues, but as soon as I enter into a teams or discord call, the audio quality of the whole system drops down. Using wired phones do not provoke the issue.
I have not installed any audio packages or program, so I assume I am using the base CachyOS ones. Am I missing something? Is there a configuration I could change?
I'm still learning the ropes of the system, so if you need any more information about the system, I can look for it.

High Temperature while Playing Terraria/tmodloader
Whenever I play Terraria, Some Weird Stuff Happens. I see no noticeable dip in performance, but for some reason my CPU temperatures rise to 65-80 degrees. If it helps, I am Running Fedora KDE, the first time playing SELinux Gave me an Alert about a system process (though this might be coincidental), and whenever i switch to another window (without closing Terraria), CPU Temperatures go back to Normal

How do I play Knights of the old republic 1 with mods and without crashing?
I've tried it with bottles, works in 4:3 without stretching and with black bars on the side. It's impossible to get uniws patcher running. The game also crashes after I hop in on escape pod with carth after the ender spire.

(kubuntu nvidia 3070) terrible fps on all steam games
i recently reinstalled kubuntu because of some partition problems. i dual boot, so i installed windows and then booted into kubuntu and took some space away from the windows partition. everything is working fine except for steam games. im pretty sure its a driver issue because 2d games work fine.
counter strike 2 with no forced proton selected runs at less than 10 fps, same thing when i select latest proton version (not beta). portal with rtx tells me my gpu isnt compatible with rtx, even though i have an rtx card. brawlhalla (2d platformer) works perfectly
how can i fix this?
edit: got an error message trying to launch the screen recorder i use: "failed to get opengl information make sure your gpu drivers are properly installed." heres the flatpak link: https://flathub.org/apps/com.dec05eba.gpu_screen_recorder
