New to Linux gaming (Fedora 42) – DualSense adaptive triggers work but no vibration on The Last Of Us / Low FPS spikes (nano stuttering) on RDR2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Juli 2025 - 15:08

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Linux gaming and currently running Fedora 42 with GNOME. Here are my specs in case it helps:

  • Distro: Fedora 42 GNOME
  • Kernel: 6.15.5-200.fc42.x86_64
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR5
  • GPU Driver: MESA 25.1.4
  • GPU: AMD Radeon 7900XTX
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core

My goal with Fedora was to have a clean, modern OS with the latest MESA updates for good hardware support.

Main issue:
When playing The Last Of Us on Steam with my DualSense controller, adaptive triggers work perfectly but vibrations don’t. I’ve tried Proton GE 10.0-1, experimental, and hotfix versions but still no vibration.

Other issue:
With Red Dead Redemption 2, I get generally good FPS, but experience low FPS spikes (nano stuttering) that make the gameplay feel less smooth and uncomfortable.

I’m open to switching to another OS if it means a better Linux gaming experience. Does anyone have recommendations for distros or setups that handle these issues better?

Thanks in advance for your help!

How to properly use Limo mod manager

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Juli 2025 - 14:23

Long story short: I discovered Limo and tried to use it to install mods for Subnautica but problem is that Limo deploys mods just in game's root folder instead of Subnautica/BepInEx/plugins/ folder. Of course I can manually move mods but I'd like to do it automatically. Please help

PSA: HoyoPlay works again!!!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Juli 2025 - 13:48

The most recent Hoyoplay update is now working through Lutris again. I installed Hoyoplay 2 weeks ago, and wouldn't work without going through 3 proton versions (in a specific order), been that way for 3-4 months, but my friend just installed and I can confirm after updating, that it's back to working out of the box.

Nobara - Windows 11 for gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Juli 2025 - 13:05

Hi everyone,

Let me give you some context. I've been an active Linux user for about 3 or 4 months, ever since I got a new laptop and installed Linux Mint alongside Windows 11 in a dual-boot setup. Mint has made me really happy, and I no longer use Windows 11 on my laptop at all because I get better battery life, more control, customization, and a bunch of other features I really value.

With that in mind, I decided to do the same on my desktop PC, which I mainly use for gaming (AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12C, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti). I ended up installing Nobara on a separate partition. The thing is, even though I enjoy experimenting and learning by solving issues (and Nobara did come with a few, like graphics glitches after sleep mode), I’m starting to question the point of this setup.

Even after installing Wine and other tools, I don’t really see the benefit of playing games—already installed on my W11 partition—from within Nobara. Am I missing something? Is it really worth having a separate Linux gaming partition? Or would it make more sense to just use a Linux distro more focused on productivity, and leave W11 strictly for gaming?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I really want to use my 4k120 TV with an AMD card through HDMI. Is displayport-to-HDMI the best solution?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Juli 2025 - 12:38

I'm on a nvidia GPU right now and want to switch over to AMD. The biggest thing stopping me is that I will lose 4k120 over HDMI 2.1 support. I want to try and work around this.

I've heard and read so many posts where people got it working using a displayport>HDMI adapter and CFW. I have no idea where to start with this though. Ideally I'd want to test that this solution works on my nvidia card before committing to the switch.

Visual artifacts on PS2 emulation on Mint

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Juli 2025 - 11:18

I have visual artifacts in all games. Same games run perfect on m3 pro. I suspect this is drivers issue, not directly related to psxc2.

Low fps/gpu usage on monster hunter wilds

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Juli 2025 - 10:59

Noob user here I tried Monster Hunter Wilds on Bazzite, but the game ran extremely poorly, stuttering a lot, usually hitting 28/30 fps without FG and staying between 40/50 with FG. What caught my attention was the GPU usage, rarely exceeding 50%, regardless of the graphics settings and fsr at 1080p.

I also tested it on a fresh Cachyos installation, and the result was the same.

Afterwards, I reinstalled Windows 11 and tested it on that. The result was the opposite, with me managing to reach 60 fps on the low graphics settings and achieving an average of 110 with the game on medium/FSR quality and fg on, with GPU usage always at maximum.

I tested the game on the latest stable version of Proton, on Proton-GE 10.7 and 10.8, on Experimental, and on Cachy Proton.

I also tried some commands I saw people using on ProtonDB, but none of them worked.

My PC specs: Ryzen 5 5500 Rx 5700 XT 8 GB 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz

Can anyone shed some light on this? I know the game is poorly optimized, but the performance discrepancy is huge between linux and windows.
