Looking for Linux Playtesters with ultra wide screen 21:9 and 32:9 - Windows Dev here

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 17:49

Hey! Yesterday some community members tested my game Dustbound on Linux and it worked great — but today someone with Linux and an ultrawide screen reported a crash when hitting play from the main menu.

Probably a scaling issue, but I can’t test it myself (no Linux or ultrawide). If anyone here with that setup could help me out, I’d really appreciate it!

Here is the link to the playtest: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3441420/Dustbound/

Proton has a different native resolution?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 16:40

For some reason games I use proton on see my native resolution as 3456 x 1944, but my native resolution is 2560 x 1440. The games work fine, but I would rather run at native for more fps and I don't need super sampling.
Some games just let me hit the shortcut alt+enter to change the window into a borderless window, then just enlarge the window. But other games change accordingly with the window size. Games with render scale I can just set the scale to 75% and be fine.

Strange Performance D2R

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 16:36

I’m trying to play Diablo 2 Resurrected in Linux Mint 22.1 on the latest 6.8.x kernel version. Battle.net was installed via the latest version of Lutris. My desktop specs are AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, 16 GB DDR-4, WD Black 1 TB NvME SSD, NV 1650 Super (4 GB). I’m using NV 550.x graphics drivers.

In the game I selected the “low” preset graphics and yet the game is “choppy” when running/walking around the map and/or when doing battle with multiple enemies. However, at sporadic times, and only for a very short time, it will suddenly run very smooth.

The game runs perfectly fine on my laptop which has the same OS, same kernel and lutris version, but with a 10th gen Intel Core i7, 16 GB DDR-4, WD Black 1 TB NvME SSD, and a NV 1650 Ti (4 GB) graphics chip. On this laptop I play the game in “high” and “very high” graphics settings just fine.

As the 1650 Super in the desktop out performs the mobile 1650 Ti chip in the laptop and with both systems having the same RAM and SSD, and all software being the same… The only difference is the CPU. I am thinking it’s a CPU bottleneck on the desktop computer. Anyone have any other ideas?

How would i make a game controller not follow the xbox scheme?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 16:11

I got an SHH shifter controller, and the issue i have is that linux tries to make it follow a standard xbox gamepad scheme with a b x y etc, except it doesn't work since it's an h pattern shifter, and 3rd and 4th gear end up not being assignable in games. I have tried it in multiple games with steam input disabled and it keeps doing the same thing. Can i make it become a generic controller with simple numbered inputs? I'm running kde neon

Configuring flameshot

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 14:51

Before i swapped i was using greenshot on windows. I had it set up so when i took screenshots, it would automatically create subfolders with the name of the app being captured so everything stayed nicely sorted. Is there any way to configure flameshot to do the same thing?

Genshin Impact doesn't launch through Hoyoplay?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 14:12

i'm using wine-ge (also tried proton-ge, same result). I have genshin and ZZZ installed, ZZZ launches perfectly, but when i try launching genshin, the launcher minimizes for a few seconds and maximizes back. I use Lutris to run the launcher. The game launches with wine staging, but it's not a viable option because staging breaks the game.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16ARX8 – Anyone running Linux on it? Fedora Atomic + Wayland/Hyprland?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 13:29

Hey everybody,

Thinking about picking up the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16ARX8 and curious how it plays with Linux. Specs look solid:

  • Ryzen 9 7945HX
  • 2×16GB DDR5 (upgradeable)
  • 1TB NVMe SSD
  • RTX 4060 (8GB)
  • 16” WQXGA 240Hz display

I’m mainly a backend dev who also plays games (Steam, retro, indie, maybe some modded stuff), and I want to daily drive Fedora Atomic (probably Sericea or Kinoite) on Wayland with Hyprland.

I know NVIDIA on Wayland can be rough, but I’d like to stick to the integrated AMD GPU (780M) for desktop + dev stuff and just use the 4060 when gaming.

So I’m wondering:

  • Anyone here running Linux (especially Fedora or Wayland) on this machine?
  • Any issues with gaming performance, battery, thermals, or GPU switching?
  • Does the 240Hz screen behave properly on Wayland?
  • Anyone tried Hyprland with this setup?
  • General hardware compatibility: Wi-Fi, audio, suspend, etc. — all good?

Would love to hear if it’s a good daily driver + gaming hybrid for Linux folks, or if I should look elsewhere. 🙏

9070XT or 5080

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2025 - 12:46

Hello together,

The last 7 years i had a 1080Ti running on W10. BC of the W10 EOL i wanted to switch to Linux, i bought a 5080 and a new NVME and was running it with CachyOS quite well - only had some bugs on OV2 (TTS, ingame voice, saving highlights). Unfortunately i had to return the GPU after 2 Weeks bc it wasnt displaying graphics output in the bootloader when fast booting.

Now i swapped my 1080Ti back in which is stuttery on linux and i'm back to W10.

I need to reorder a new GPU when i want to play on Linux - what would you recommend cus im still struggling with the decision.

A Nvidia 5080 or an AMD 9070XT ?
