Trialing moving over to linux (Nobara OS)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 03:42

Hi all, seeing how viable making the jump over to linux is.

Is there any easy way to see what games are and are not compatible with the linux OS? I understand GTA V and Rainbow 6 are not, I can live without these two but need to make sure that I am not going to make the switch just to find out I have to swtich back...

[Help] League of Legends on Bazzite + Lutris blocked by Riot Vanguar

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 03:34

TL;DR: League of Legends is no longer playable on Linux because Riot is now enforcing Vanguard, a kernel-level anti-cheat that doesn’t work with Wine/Proton. I’m using Bazzite + Lutris + Wine-GE, and the installer asks me to reboot for Vanguard, which breaks the setup. Looking for help or workarounds (VM passthrough, hacks, anything).

Hey everyone, I’m having trouble getting League of Legends to run on Linux, specifically using the Bazzite KDE distribution (Fedora-based and gaming-optimized).

What I’ve tried:

I’m using Lutris with Wine-GE (latest version).

I installed League via the official Lutris script.

The installation starts fine, but at some point the Riot Client asks me to restart the system to finish installing Riot Vanguard.

The problem:

After Vanguard installs and the reboot is requested, if I restart the system, the Lutris/Wine prefix breaks, and I can’t continue the setup.

Vanguard is a kernel-level anti-cheat (same as Valorant), which obviously doesn’t work under Wine/Proton/Linux.

I’ve already tried deleting the entire wineprefix, reinstalling from scratch, using the latest Wine-GE, and no change — it always installs Vanguard and breaks.

My question(s):

I understand that League used to run fine under Wine until recently. But now that Vanguard is enforced, it seems completely blocked.

Is there any known workaround to get LoL working on Linux with Vanguard?

Has anyone managed to run League of Legends with Vanguard in a VM via GPU passthrough (VFIO)?

Any hacky DXVK tricks, Wine registry edits, or sandbox bypasses that work despite Vanguard?

Does Riot plan any compatibility for Linux or at least VMs in the future?.

Odd sound issues with Kingdom Come Deliverance

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 03:15

I got Kingdom Come Deliverance during the summer sale and I am just now getting around to playing it. When I first launched it, the game had audio and everything worked fine. However, I changed the graphics settings to show the right resolution for my second monitor, and that has resulted in a VERY weird issue. Whenever the game is running, absolutely zero audio plays. Not only is the game completely silent, but the entire computer, Playing a YouTube video then launching the game just pauses is showing a loading icon. Audio files are completely silent. Whenever I change the volume using the media keys on my keyboard or using the icon in the system tray, it is massively delayed. What in the world is going on here and how can I fix it?

The Finals crashes after two matches

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 02:18

Hello recently i downloaded The Finals, despite reviews saying that it works well on linux i still needed to spend a while finding a Proton version that worked because it crashed when loading into a match. After finding a Proton version that worked i quickly discovered that the game would crash mid game in only two matches.

A couple of really stupid questions from an absolute Noobie

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 02:14

Hi Folks,

I am a complete beginner to Linux gaming (actually, almost all PC gaming) and only just installed Linux Mint this past winter. I've watched a lot of videos about Linux gaming and have a basic question about installing a game which I purchased on Steam. Right now, it's sitting in my Library on Steam. The next step is for me to install it on my PC.

Question 1 It is asking me in which directory I want to install it. Will the Linux operating system/file system "know" which directory to install the game, or will I have to specify the directory? If so, in which directory should I install the game?

Question 2 I am thinking of installing the game, FreeCiv. For Linux users, the version on the download site is an AppImage. How does one install an AppImage? (I am on Linux Mint, Cinnamon edition.) (This is one of the major things I am having to get used to on Linux: the many different ways there are to install programs. It's not like the old Windows world where one would just click on the installation file and off she went!)

Thank you for any assistance you provide.

Linux Steam/Proton - how to increase keyboard repeat rate?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 01:51

Calling all Steam/Proton experts here. I have good repeat rate set using xset, but these settings do not make it into proton environment. On windows I used to tweak those with regedit.

Note I'm running battle.net launcher from steam, and launching SC2 from there. The whole question is basically about SC2 rapidfire on Linux.

Cannot get anything installed with Wine, have tried everything

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 01:47

I've been at this for days and nothing i'm trying is working, if anyone has any advice i would greatly appreciate it!

PC Details: distro │ Arch Linux x86_64

kernel │ Linux 6.15.7-arch1-1

kitty 0.42.2

shell │ bash 5.3.0

cpu │ AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (16) z

gpu | Radeon 9070xt

What I have tried so far:

Have tried both portproton and lutris both have the same issue with wine when installing games. Everything will download fine, but at the game setup/install stage wine hangs and i have to abort the install.

I have removed and reinstalled lutris, wine, winetricks, wine-mono, wine-gecko, dotnet48, 32bit dependencies etc.. multiple times.

I have tried installing the wine-staging-git and manually building.

I have downloaded specific versions of wine-mono and installed that specifically to a wineprfix, the installer did make some progress following this but ultimately crashed and again didnt work.

I am at my wits end with this, i can't play any of my games (cyberpunbk) on GOG, EA, ubisoft etc...

Steam works perfectly fine though.

Lutris log file: https://pastebin.com/vHY246SP

Exceedingly poor performance in Warframe compared to windows, regardless of proton version i try

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 01:39

What it says on the tin, basically--been playing warframe a loooong time and on windows i get 100+ FPS smooth as silk regardless of the content i do, but under linux regardless of what version of proton (tried several normal and GE versions, tried the cachyOS version) or settings/configs ive tried, i get 40fps or less in regular content, and like 10-20 in any of the 1999 content, and it stutters pretty badly. nearly every other game ive tried has run perfectly fine and comparable to windows.

i have an RTX 3060, on arch with latest everything. ive set warframe to DX11 in the launcher settings, ive played with graphical settings and no matter what i try there is something fundamentally wrong that doesnt appear to effect anyone posting on protonDB or elsewhere

Heroic Launch says it needs the flatpak version of Mangohud, but there doesn't seem to be a flatpak version

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 00:50

Everywhere I go online "make sure to download the flatpak version." I go to the repo, not there. I go to flatghub, not there. I can find Mango Juice the front end. I can only find mangohud in the AUR repo and apparently that's not the right version.

DXVK-Sarek 1.11.0 "Red River" Released

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 00:33

Hi there!

I am happy to share my unofficial continuation of the 1.10.x branch designed to assist users still relying on the 1.10.x releases by backporting per game configurations, fixes and more: DXVK-Sarek

A ton of fixes have been added to the 1.11.0 release, that should make more games work out of the box, and if they dont work, feel free to create an issue on the repo. More info can be found on the release, and for a more easy installation you can use Proton-Plus.

Thanks for reading, share this with people that are stuck on the 1.10.x branch, hope this helps and GLHF.

Hii. Building a new PC this evening, need guidance on Linux build.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20. Juli 2025 - 00:15

Hey all! Here is a photo with all parts in it. I've been sitting on them for 24 months but depression is a really killer.

Wanting to embrace the build now finally. Have a brand new thera 75v2 I put together as well.

Anyway which distro would y'all recommend for this build? I do gamin,g, a little streaming, coding for playdate, and lots of SDR stuff. I've used cubesdr I believe it is on Linux in the past. Overall I'm just worried about compatibility and stuff?

Thank you guys!

Does the Aurora Steam Deck tool work with Linux Mint?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. Juli 2025 - 23:45

I liked using Aurora trainers on my old windows PC and so far I have never gotten the to work on my new Linux system. I noticed CH released a Steam Deck tool (https://www.cheathappens.com/steamdecktool.asp), but it has a price tag. Before I put down money for it I want to know if anybody's tried it with Linux Mint and could tell me if it works.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. Juli 2025 - 23:23

I would like to present you: GeForce Infinity (https://github.com/AstralVixen/GeForce-Infinity), which is a Linux client for GeForce NOW service which has native-like performance as it was originally made to address the lack of a GeForce NOW client on Linux. GeForce Infinity adds lot of useful features like:

- 🚀 Native-like performance

- 💎 Modern SteamOS-like sidebar for controlling GeForce Infinity (Ctrl+I)

- 🌐 Discord Rich Presence

- 🎯 Autofocus when gaming rig is ready

- 🔔 Notifications when gaming rig is ready

- 👨🏻‍💻 Ability to change UserAgent if having issues with defaults

- 🎨 Ability to change theme colors of GeForce NOW

- 🔄 Ability to reload GeForce NOW without restarting application

Many more comming soon as:

- 🔑 Account switching

- 🎮 Automatic Game Startup

- 📊 FPS, Connection metrics inside GeForce Infinity

We are on Flathub, AUR, and we provide DEB, AppImage packages!!

Any contribution is welcome! We are trying to make gaming on Linux better :)

DDR mats compatible with Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. Juli 2025 - 22:09

As the title says, I've been looking at various DDR mats and they're often only for Windows. anyone know of a DDR mat that works with PopOS, preferably with 8 directions as opposed to only 4?
