steam keeps popping up saying no controller connected despite not having any controller connected and just having my keyboard and mouse plugged in.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. Juli 2025 - 03:12

steam just recently has started saying there is no controller connected in games and just when im sitting on the library screen. i dont know what started it or what caused it but its interfering with my game play and causing me to lose the ability to control my game. i use endeavouros and hyprland. i saw a steam fourm post saying that their razer mouse caused this but i tried everything there and i dont have a razer mouse. here is the post: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3812910932500606630/ .

i have a logitech g502x lightspeed if that makes any difference.

thanks for any ideas

dual-boot with two drives

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. Juli 2025 - 02:21

Hello, I have two drives. One on which I have my windows installed, as well as all my FL Studio plugins, as well as other programs, and a second disk, where I keep all my games installed. I've been thinking of installing Linux on the second disk, but I'd also want to keep it for gaming, mainly Linux, though I'd assume there'd be that one odd multiplayer game which I cannot run on linux there. Is this doable? And if so, could someone provide a few tips on how to do it. Also, fully switching to Linux is just not doable for me as I'm a producer, and I also wouldn't want to trade that one game that I might want to play someday.

✨ The Secret of Velmora – AAA‑looking indie adventure, natively on Linux (Free demo out now!)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. Juli 2025 - 01:58

Hey Linux gamers!
After 3 months of intense work I’ve just released my very first game – The Secret of Velmora.
It’s not your typical low‑poly indie – this is a cinematic first‑person adventure with a strong story focus, built with AAA‑style visuals in Unreal Engine 5.

And yes – it’s fully native for Linux (no Proton/Wine) and also available for Windows.
Recommended: A decent GPU (RTX or AMD equivalent) to enjoy the visuals as intended.

🎮 Free demo download:

💬 Wishlist on Steam (awaiting release approval):

Native Linux gaming deserves more love – would be great to hear your feedback from the Linux side of the world! ❤️🐧

Start in desktop environment and do a soft reset to start steam big picture for gaming. How?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. Juli 2025 - 00:40

Right now I have a low-end laptop and I want to download a Linux distro on it. But I want it to start in desktop environment and when I want to play some lightweight games I press do a soft reset and open steam big picture, so all resource of the laptop will be used just for the game.

Like it is a desktop first and gaming mode second

Has any distro done it or there is a guide to do it?

Any luck getting achievements to work whit mcpelauncher?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. Juli 2025 - 00:16

I am playing bedrock 1.24.x atm, i have a """forever world""" where i couldn't get achievements for some reason so why not enable cheats and set keepinventory anyway. Today i made a new world to test this, i did not enable cheats nor experiments yet i don't get any achievements at all.

I still have the microsoft user profile tab achievements tho.

[CS2] Steam Overlay suddenly stopped working on Wayland, switching to X11 broke ultrawide resolution – any fix?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Juli 2025 - 23:43

Hey folks,

I'm running Fedora 42 KDE (Plasma 6.4.3) with Wayland on a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and an AMD RX 7600 XT.
Everything was working fine until very recently — and then CS2 decided to break itself.

Until yesterday (28/07), CS2 ran just fine under Wayland with Steam Overlay working normally. I didn't change anything on my system or update Steam manually, but overnight, the Steam Overlay completely stopped showing up in CS2.
Overlay still works in other games like Brawlhalla, using the same Proton version (I tested Proton 8.0, Experimental, GE, etc). So it’s not a Proton-wide issue.

What I tried:

  • Verified game files
  • Checked Steam Overlay is enabled (globally + per-game)
  • Switched video modes (fullscreen, windowed, borderless)
  • Tried several Proton versions (8.0, Experimental, GE)
  • Cleared shadercache and compatdata for app ID 730
  • Waited for Vulkan shaders to finish compiling
  • Tested gamemoderun %command%
  • Clean boot under Wayland — no effect

I installed plasma-workspace-x11 and kwin-x11 to log into an X11 session and test if the overlay would come back.

Result: Yes, Steam Overlay works again in CS2 under X11
BUT CS2 completely broke ultrawide resolution support (my native resolution is 2560x1080 @ 21:9). Even with launch options like:

-w 2560 -h 1080 -aspectratio 21:9 -fullscreen

…the game refuses to render properly — it's either stretched or pillarboxed to 16:9, no matter the display mode.
So I uninstalled plasma-workspace-x11 and went back to Wayland, where the resolution is still broken

Anyone else with an ultrawide and CS2 running into this? Any idea what changed?
Would love to know if someone has a working setup with Steam Overlay + 21:9 resolution in CS2 under Wayland or X11.

Thanks in advance!

Steam ignores MangoHud.conf

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Juli 2025 - 22:48

Hi,

I'm using EndeavourOs, completely updated, kernel 6.15.8, i3 12100F, RX 9060 XR 16Gb, 16Gb of RAM, sata SSD 500 GB.

I installed Steam and HGL as flatpaks. I then installed MangoHud 23.08 and 24.08 flatpaks, because the two apps required different versions of it.

I configured MangoHud to my likes with MangoJuice (flatpak).

What happens is that games launched through HGL (which uses 23.08) shows the gui with my modified conf, while games launched through steam shows the default appearance of MangoHud.

I executed the command: flatpak override --user --env=MANGOHUD=1 com.valvesoftware.Steam

As indicated in the MangoHud's readme.

I added mangohud %command% to the launch options of the steam games.

I added an env variable with FlatSeal to steam: MANGOHUD_CONFIGFILE="path/to/conf"

But nothing worked. I don't know what else to do... Can someone help me?

(Also, one friend of mine with cachyos is in the same situation, so I think it could be platform independent)

Diablo IV VRAM Leak - Latest workaround

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Juli 2025 - 21:57

If you have been experiencing the well-known VRAM leak on D4, it's possible that the existing workaround of setting dxgi.maxDeviceMemory and dxgi.maxSharedMemory to the same value doesn't address the problem anymore.

After being annoyed by this, I started trying several workarounds, and after checking FenrisDebug.txt on D4 folder, I found why it's happening: if you set dxgi.maxDeviceMemory and dxgi.maxSharedMemory, what D4 thinks is: the total VRAM available is the sum of these two, which is not what you want.

The fix? Set dxgi.maxSharedMemory to a lower value, like 1024, that will make Diablo 4 behave correctly. Create a file with the following contents and put it in the D4 installation folder as dxvk.conf or put it anywhere and set the DXVK_CONFIG_FILE variable to point to it.

[Diablo IV.exe] dxgi.maxDeviceMemory = 8192 # or ~85% of your max memory dxgi.maxSharedMemory = 1024 # or 2048, you can play with this value

After that, you can play D4 at ultra with steady FPS (165 in my case, which is the max Hz on my monitor).
