Linux has gone below 4% global market share

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 18:28

https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/desktop/worldwide/#monthly-202303-202403

What is going on here? 0.22% seems quite a drop in a month given the small numbers we are dealing with. I'm hoping this month's steam hardware survey goes above 2% as we are so close.

Windows bricked my new Dualsense Edge.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 17:52

So get this. I bought a brand new Dualsense Edge controller yesterday, and it worked on Linux out the box. It even allowed me to use the touchpad as a cursor without having to do anything. You can find a recent review of how it works on Linux on the controller sub.

It worked both wired and BT on my Arch w/ Gnome desktop, whether or not Steam was open. I wanted to do a firmware update, not for any issues but just because I like staying up to date when I get new peripherals. Here's where my issues began. I plugged it into my brother's Windows PC to update the firmware, and his sound turned off immediately. Windows recognized the controller as an audio device for some reason, a common issue. It didn't seem like a big deal, just opened sound settings and select the correct one, but that was the last time I ever was able to use the controller wired. Whatever Windows did driver-wise the moment I plugged it in, bricked the wired functionality of the controller for all systems. I didn't even get to do the firmware update. Somehow, BT still worked fine, but plugging in the controller anywhere just caused the controller to show an orange light once, then it did nothing. From there I spent HOURS trying tons of solutions I read including resetting the controller, reinstalling/removing USB/audio/controller drivers from Device Manager, messing with audio device settings, DS4Windows, Steam settings, firmware update, we tried it all. Only thing we didn't try was plugging it into a PS5, because we don't have one.

The worst part about this? THE FIRMWARE UPDATE SOFTWARE WORKS WITH WINE! I could've easily prevented this by trying it, but I assumed it wouldn't work, it wasn't until the controller was bricked that I discovered this. In the end, I refunded the controller and swapped it for a new one, and sure enough this one works great out the box on Linux. Did the firmware update on my own linux system this time and it went great, and still works when updated. So it was 100% Windows automated driver nonsense that broke the controller. Rest assured this new one is NEVER going to touch a Windows PC.

Tip if G-Sync is not working with some Wine / Proton versions

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 17:35

I had the problem that G-Sync was not working on some Wine / Proton versions, especially newer versions like Wine 9 / Proton 9 or Proton Experimental but it worked on older versions. I fixed this by turning off "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" and "Allow the window manager to controll the windows" in the winecfg graphics tab of the wine prefix.

Gray Zone Warfare

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 17:25

Has anyone gotten this game working with Proton? I have heard that EAC can be used under Proton but haven't had luck with this title nor getting it working. Not asking for tech support but curious if anyone else has given it a shot and had any luck? I only moved to linux mint this past month and this is prob the first game where i haven't been able to get it working with a little tinkering.

SoundblasterX G6

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 17:02

Heyo, so my sound card keeps getting stuck in some boot loop (turning on and off) and sometimes when I turn my computer on the sound card works and most times it doesn’t. I was just wondering if there is a workaround of some sort. I also don’t use a mic with the sound card this is just for audio only.

Trying to use two command lines in steam launch options for apex

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 16:39

Hey guys I'm trying to add a launch option to steam launch option, it's this line (+reticle_color "2147483648 2147483648 2147483648") but I already have this line set (WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;dxgi=n,b" %command%) how do I set both lines in the launch options in steam?

Looks like we're almost there guys

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 16:08

I had updated Discord recently, and accidentally I forgot that there's no way to screenshare in a Wayland session. However, looks like they're finally addressing this issue. It doesn't behave well just yet, but it's something at least

Bye Sweet Carole blends horror with what looks like classic Disney movies

Gaming on Linux - 01. Mai 2024 - 15:45
I've no idea how I missed Bye Sweet Carole being announced a good while ago, but maybe you did too and it deserves a look because it honestly looks pretty incredible. Created by Chris Darril of the Remothered series it looks like it really does blend classic Disney movies, with a more mature horror theme.

Elder scrolls online black screen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2024 - 15:21

Just decided to get this game since I heard it was compatible with Linux.

I installed the launcher with steam proton and everything works but when I launch the game I'm just greeted with a black screen and have to close it. I noticed I don't have the user settings file which people say crashes the game but when I add it nothing happens.

I've tried other proton versions but half the time the launcher never pops up. Only on experimental.

Any help?
