Faugus Launcher: Version 2.5.3 released

The Faugus Launcher, a game launcher for Linux to manage Wine and Proton games, has been released in version 2.5.3.

New are auto-hide widgets, tooltips in the settings and significantly lower RAM usage when scrolling through large libraries. The previous version was 2.5.1.

Added/Changed

  • Option to auto-hide widgets on the main screen
  • Progress bar on the splash window, with updated strings
  • Tooltips for most Settings options
  • Most settings now apply in real time; those that still need a restart are marked with an asterisk
  • Weekly gamecontrollerdb updates
  • Categories in the Overview panel are sorted alphabetically
  • Smooth scrolling and improved carousel animations
  • Proton runners stay read-only during extraction
  • Long game titles are truncated in List mode
  • The absolute path is set for PROTONPATH

Fixed

  • Some interface customization inconsistencies
  • Keyboard and gamepad scrolling stopping before the end of the list
  • Post-launch scripts being killed when a game closes

Performance

  • Covers and banners load on demand and in a separate thread
  • Images are resized to their display scale and memory is freed while scrolling
  • Reduced rendering overhead from removed and modified visual effects
  • Lower idle RAM (about 14% less at boot, about 84% less after scrolling) and much lower RAM use while scrolling in a 1,000-game Covers test, at the cost of higher CPU use while scrolling
