Defold Engine: version 1.13.2 released

Defold has been released in version 1.13.2.

Defold is a free, open-source 2D/3D game engine with its own editor, used to build games for desktop, mobile, web, and consoles.

This release adds rich text support for labels and GUI nodes (colors, gradients, outlines, shadows, animated effects, and links), a new Bullet3D physics API for direct access to rigid bodies and constraints without native extensions, and 3D collision meshes for more accurate collision geometry. It also brings improvements to text rendering, editor tooling, and build options.

Major Features

Rich Text Support: Labels and GUI nodes now support markup for formatting, including colors, gradients, sizes, outlines, shadows, underlines, animated effects, sprites, links, and named styles for text.

Bullet3D Physics API: A new Lua API provides access to the Bullet 3D physics world and the objects inside it, enabling developers to work with rigid bodies, shapes, and constraints without native extensions.

3D Collision Meshes: Developers can now use mesh geometry for collision shapes, improving accuracy for complex level geometry compared to primitive shapes.

Enhanced Text Rendering: The release adds OpenType CFF font support and optimizes distance-field font generation for faster performance.

Text Properties: Scripts can now declare text properties directly, supporting UTF-8 and multi-line values for easier content management.

Editor Improvements

The editor gains HTTP endpoints for project compilation and game execution, format-on-save functionality, and validated Lua API annotations. Scene View now preserves camera settings and grid preferences between sessions.

Build and Platform Updates

Custom engine builds can exclude GUI, Particle FX, Tilemap, and rich text subsystems. Android projects gain R8 support for Java optimization, and HTML5 loading includes improved resource hints and retry logic.

Notable Deprecations

The misspelled window.WINDOW_EVENT_ICONFIED constant is deprecated in favor of the corrected window.WINDOW_EVENT_ICONIFIED spelling.
