PAYDAY 2: Update 247 released - native Linux build retired, Proton switch required

The big Update 247 for PAYDAY 2, bringing the overhauled “Diesel Engine 3.0”, is now available on Steam.

Important for Linux players: this update retires the native Linux branch, as it was no longer in development and caused confusion for new Linux users. Linux players now need to switch to Proton. To carry over existing save files to the current build, Starbreeze has published a dedicated Linux Migration Guide.

Linux players - Please read! With this release we are also retiring the old native Linux branch, as it is no longer in development and causes confusion for new Linux users. Linux players will need to use the Proton features of Steam, additionally we have prepared a guide on how to transition save files over to the current build of the game.

Diesel Engine v3.0

  • The engine is now 64bit!
  • The renderer is now DirectX 11
  • Better CPU utilization, especially for “performance” cores on CPUs that support multi-threading
  • New asset compression system, the game will now be much smaller on your storage drives
  • Faster loading times!
  • New content ownership system
  • Native VR, the game no longer needs 2 different EXE files to play flatscreen and VR
  • In-game voice chat has been implemented for “Epic Online Services” matchmaking

General

  • The game’s language can now be specified with the command line argument -language english/german/french/etc. instead of having to edit context.xml
  • Fixed mask clipping on “Joy” and “Jacket” with some masks

Input

  • Mouse input in menus is now based off of the real position of your mouse
  • The game will no longer “eat” your mouse cursor while Alt+Tabbing out of the game
  • Added native support for PlayStation 4 controllers

Updates may be incompatible with the mods you may have installed. Even seemingly unrelated mods may cause unexpected issues. If you are experiencing any problems with the game, try removing any mods you may have installed and try again.

The download for this update is fairly large at 32 GB. For a transition period of one month, the legacy build will remain available on the beta branches for players who run into immediate issues.
