Arctis Sound Manager: version 1.4.4 released

Arctis Sound Manager has been released in version 1.4.4, shortly after the recently covered versions 1.4.2 and 1.4.3.

The tool manages audio settings for SteelSeries Arctis headsets on Linux, including microphone noise cancellation, external output routing and other audio features.

This release fixes five bugs, including a broken GameDAC display on wired Nova Pro units and a sidetone that couldn’t be disabled on the Nova Elite. It also improves SteamOS permission repairs and USB diagnostics.

Fixed

  • Wired GameDAC Display Problem: The right half of the screen on wired Nova Pro units wasn’t updating. The fix involved treating unacknowledged USB reports as successfully delivered rather than retrying them, ensuring all frame strips transmit completely.
  • Nova Elite Sidetone Control: Sidetone couldn’t be disabled on Nova Elite - the lowest setting was level 1 instead of silence. The on/off state byte now properly follows user settings and persists across reconnections.
  • SteamOS Audio Client Permissions: A repair routine for restricted audio clients on SteamOS never functioned due to incorrect command formation. The fix corrects the command structure and improves error logging visibility.
  • Uninstall Script Failure: The documented one-liner installation command failed when piped to bash due to assumptions about script file location.
  • Arch Update Recommendation: Users received inapplicable update commands for AUR-installed packages.

Changed

  • USB access diagnostics now read directly from the kernel instead of userspace libraries, providing more accurate permissions problem identification in bug reports.
