GE-Proton, the unofficial Proton build by GloriousEggroll, has been released in version GE-Proton11-1 - after four months of development, bringing a major video playback rework and a rebase onto Proton 11.

The biggest change: the entire quartz-to-GStreamer video path has been replaced with quartz-to-winedmo-to-FFmpeg, removing GStreamer from the build entirely. Video playback now works in over 100 games without winetricks, DLL overrides, or any external tools.

The long awaited video rework and Proton 11 rebase is finally done! GE-Proton11-1 is now available!

Proton updates:

• d7vk added (not enabled by default). Use PROTON_USE_D7VK=1 to enable.
• discord bridge added (not enabled by default). Use PROTON_DISCORD_BRIDGE=1 to enable.
• optiscaler support added (not enabled by default). Use PROTON_USE_OPTISCALER=1 to enable.
• winealsa channel count override option added. Use WINEALSA_CHANNELS to tune (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8).
• winealsa spatial downmix override option added. Use WINEALSA_SPACIAL=1 to enable.
• xrandr added to build for auto-detection of default monitor with wine-wayland.
• Updated Star Citizen patches.
• Added patches for Task Bar Hero and VRChat webcam face tracking.
• Entire build rebased onto latest Proton 11 bleeding-edge.
• Standalone VR patches rebased onto Proton 11 (for use with umu outside of Steam).
• wine-native rsx3d library created for older games.
• Enable .exe dynamic relocation fix for Final Fantasy XIV plugin stability.

The video playback rework: The entire quartz->gstreamer path was converted to quartz->winedmo->ffmpeg, and completely gutted all gstreamer libraries from the proton build. This took 4 months to complete. As a result, games no longer need quartz, dshow, amstream, lavfilters, klite, rsx3d, wmp9, wmp11, or any other DLL overrides for video playback.

Known issues: Some older WMV videos can occasionally start distorted/pixelated but correct themselves after a few seconds (notably in Ghosts ’n Goblins Resurrection). WRC 4 has some intro logo videos with a frame-splitting issue.
