Seems as if gaming companies just don't like Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. April 2024 - 21:03

This all started when Roblox first removed support for wine, Most things were smooth sailing up until then. Roblox then added back wine support for a short duration of time but then removed it later down the road.
This is not that bad most people who game on Linux probably aren't playing Roblox anyways. Now everything seems good, But now Plants vs zombies Garden warfare 2 added a kernel anticheat which makes Wine no longer supported. I mean thats the only 2 games I can thing of off the top of my head but if you want to you could add some in the comments that you want to play on linux.

Digital Vibrance on Nobara

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. April 2024 - 19:59

Is it normal for nobara with the nvidia drivers version to not have the powermizer and the monitor settings in the nvidia x settings app? Is it because of Wayland? If so, does anyone know any other ways to increase digital vibrance?

Where to go for support in linux gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. April 2024 - 19:52

Hey,

I've just built a new machine and elected to take a stab at running linux as a primary os (specifically the Aurora derivative of Fedora/Kinoite 40). This is my first time running linux on a non-work machine, and certainly my first time trying to game on one. It seems like all the game specific communities are windows focused and wouldn't be able to help much, while the general communities, such as this one, also don't seem appropriate for posting game specific tech help requests...so where should I go?

Just by way of example, my proximate problem is that cyberpunk through steam/proton will only run in borderless windowed mode but provides no options (blank menu) for adjusting the resolution. The result is that I'm stuck with a game window that only uses 1/4 of my monitor. Directly trying to set the res in usersettings.json doesn't seem to do anything either...

Anyway, help with direction to an appropriate community, or with my direct problem would both be appreciated.

Thanks!

A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. April 2024 - 17:45

The error log

Hi there!

So whenever I try opening up my Minecraft and the loading starts, it just immediately closes or crashes. Then I checked up for some crash logs and unfortunately found this: "A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment." I have never encountered this error before and everything was running well with my Minecraft before I updated my jdk-openjdk. After some digging, some of the forums I've read said that updating openjdk should fix this. I'm already in the latest version which is weird enough. Reinstalling both minecraft or openjdk doesn't help either. My guess was that updating openjdk was the cause of this error. What do you guys think I should do?

Lag during WoW Classic

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. April 2024 - 17:12

Hey,

I'm trying to run WoW Classic on my machine, but I run into some lag issues.

I'm running Linux Mint 21.3, and launching WoW either via battle net in Lutris 0.5.9.1-1 or directly through wine 6.0.3

When trying to launch wow.exe through wine I get error; RtlpWaitForCriticalSection in console.

I read that WoW should be run in dxvk mode v1.10.3/2.3.1 (which I do in the runner in Lutris), however I don't see the option enabled ingame, only DirectX11 shows as an graphics API option. Battle.net is launched with the command line arguments "-d3d11"

I have nouveau drivers for a NVIDIA graphics card. Is it correct that nouveau don't support Vulkan drivers currently? If so the issue might be there? NVK Nvidia supports vulkan drivers, but aren't supported on Linux Mint 21.3.

There is an option to build the driver itself if that could help solve the issue.

Btw: Ingame I can read the text: Compiling shaders 0-100 a bunch of times.

Help is greatly appreciated:)

Black screen in game and no characters on pause menu on Yakuza 8

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. April 2024 - 15:47

Hello people. I'm trying Nobara OS. I installed Yakuza 8 and the cinematics show fine, but when I load my saved game, the screen goes black. Likewise, I even go to the pause menu and mostly everything appears fine, except the characters. (Screenshot attached). It's like the display has layers and one of them is missing?

This game is Platinum in ProtonDB. I even tested different proton versions as the testimonies there. Tried: Experimental, 9 beta, 8 and 7. No luck.

Any tips or hints I could try? I would love to go full Linux for gaming.

I have an intel i7 13th, RTX 4070Ti, 2 WD black SSDs, one with Windows and the other with Nobara.

Steam deck has gone into emergency mode

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. April 2024 - 12:47

I have posted this in a couple of places as hopefully someone might know a solution.

Hi all, yesterday I changed a partition size of my internal SSD. When partition manager finished the request it came back with 'finished with errors, aborted' but still changed the partition to what I wanted. When trying to boot back into my steamos partition it wouldn't load and just hung on the steam deck logo. I thought I could then load instead through the loading from file feature - efi - steamos etc. which then brought me to this message.

Now even when I try to load the 'normal' way it does the same. (This photo is a copy from online, but my message is identical)

I hope someone can walk me through a fix, I have seen online it's possible to fix but the steps are normally explained quite basically and I would need a little more information.

Thanks in advance all, I really done want to have to wipe my deck as l've put two years on tinkering into it.
