Linux-native turn-based strategy Astro Protocol launches Feb 9

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 17:25

Hi! I’m one of the developers of Astro Protocol, a turn-based space strategy game, and we recently announced that it will launch as a full release on February 9.

Astro Protocol is built with the open-source game engine Godot and runs natively on Linux. About halfway through development, I moved my development setup from Windows to Linux, and the project has been developed and tested on Linux ever since. Despite a few workflow quirks (my window management setup is probably due for a rethink), I’ve been genuinely happy developing the game on Linux.

On the game side, Astro Protocol focuses on tactical, challenging matches that you can finish in about an hour. It uses one-unit-per-tile hex combat, randomized maps and tech trees, and an economy built around planetary networks and map control rather than city build queues.

There’s a free demo available on Steam if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions and I’m also open to any feedback or hear about issues you might have with the demo.

Playstation Controller Woes

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 16:51

Controller light turns on, steam recognizes the adapter, but no input. Device ID 0810:0001

Ive seen others use this exact controller on their steamdecks as well. So I know its possible, but im having trouble. I also have those common black psx adapters, but they dont show at all. Only the blue "twin usb ps2 adapter" is recognized. But cant get the buttons or the joystick to to anything. KDE sees the adapter as well, but no buttons or joysticks do anything.

Which kernel is best for my i5 4460 with GTX-750?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 16:38

Is kernel-Zen or kernel-cachy-os better? Because lately I've noticed that the performance is lower than it should be.

And while we're at it, GE-Proton or Proton Base?

Problemas con heroic launcher

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 16:20

I currently use Heroic Launcher to run my Windows games, but lately I haven't been able to get any Assassin's Creed (Origins/Syndicate) games to launch, and if they do, it's at around 10 FPS.

Is there a better launcher or a better way to install the dependencies?

Faugus Launcher UI scale

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 16:05

Hey guys.

I'm currently trying to run Path of Building (a third party app for Path of Exile) using Faugus, but all the UI elements look way, way too tiny on a 4k screen.

Like I can't even properly see the text.

Is there a way to force Faugus to increase UI scaling or something to that effect so I could actually see what's happening on my screen?

I have tried cranking up Mint's own display scaling to 200% but it doesn't seem to do anything for Faugus.

Send help.

Is it safe to share Steam library between Linux (Bazzite) and Windows?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 16:04

I recently set up dualbooting with Windows 11 and Bazzitte and I noticed that Bazzite instantly detected my Steam games installed on a NTFS drive. I've tested several of them this way and honestly, there hasn't been any issues.

Out of curiosity, I looked this up and nearly everyone recommended not to do this because it can supposedly cause issues. Most of these posts are at least a year older, so I'm wondering if this is still a safe thing to do and won't cause issues on either Linux or Windows in the future.

Problem with ARK being 0B

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 15:53

So i tried making file sharing (so other accounts could run the games without reinstalling). I made a folder in /opt for the steam shared library, gave all permisions to everyone for it on steam, set the storage where to install games to that folder and all of other games installed. And there comes ARK. It says that ARK is 0B and it only installs the shaders. I have tried everything and it wont work.

Im using linux mint cinnamon. I have 400GB free on my disk.

Artics Nova Pro Wireless issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 15:21

Hi all, I have purchased the Artics Nova Pro Wireless from amazon some days ago. I bought them used but in "mint" conditions. So, after fiddling with them a little, I noticed that I can a little pop or buzz, typically when I use the volume wheel on the base, sometimes I can hear it without turning the volume up or down on the base station. I immediately thought it was interference but I tried to use a laptop with Arch in a different position and I still hear those artifacts. I tried pw-top and dmesg but nothing seems to pop up. On journalctl it shows "Pipewire remote error: - 2 unknown resource" tho this shows up only on the laptop. Are these headphones cooked? Am I missing something? I also tried to switch the USB cable to no avail.

Both DMC and Ninja Gaiden "collections" on Steam do not play pre-rendered cutscenes (wmv files)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 15:15

Probably a codec issue, since VLC player plays the files just fine. But swapping around Proton versions, and a couple other suggested fixes did nothing.

I'm thinking of trying custom proton versions next, unavailable by default on Steam, but if anyone has any other solutions, I'd welcome the input.

Known issues with Vivox / Hell Let Loose VoIP(?)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Januar 2026 - 14:57

Has anyone encountered / fixed this particular issue? On Linux (Ubuntu), Hell Let Loose will attempt to connect to vivox for voip when you join a game, only for that connection to fail after a few seconds.

This results in not being able to talk or listen to any VoIP channel (local, squad, officer).

I've tried a bunch of solutions, including ones recommended by chatGPT which go into tinkering with launch commands and pulse audio / pipewire settings (reverted those in the meantime).

I'm bummed out because i really like HLL, but the game is nowhere near as fun without comms.
