I know the performance wasn't that great on launch day with Mesa. And I know it has improved over time.

I'm curious If they've improved in the last few months since I haven't read any news on this lately. And how do they compare with Windows at the moment.

Sooo... HDR was going well at least with gamescope enabled... without I already had the same problem.

- Desktop HDR works fine (for example MPV HDR via `vo=gpu-next` + `waylandvk` looks perfect).

- Proton games appear **grey/washed** (SDR tone-mapped as HDR).

- Untilast week, running them with **Gamescope** fixed it; now after Plasma 6.5 update, it’s broken.

- Tried `DXVK_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1`, Proton-GE latest, Gamescope `--hdr-enabled` with/without `--hdr-itm-enable`, no joy.

- VRR toggle / fullscreen modes → no change.

Anyone else on NVIDIA Wayland seeing this after Plasma 6.5? Any combo (Gamescope build, Proton-GE, driver branch) restoring HDR? I can share `vulkaninfo`, DXVK logs, or KWin traces if needed.

I am not too knowledgeable on Steam on Linux, just a few games in a couple years sometimes.

I am on Arch Linux, audio device is Focusrite, and other games (I tested Thimbleweed) still sound fine.

I am running Easy Effects always, pipewire, Sway, fully updated everything on Arch. It feels like it's not reaching the right channel but this is beyond me. Anyone?

I am trying to use sober on my dell latitude e6410. It's old but there shouldn't be any problems running Roblox. Im using Linux mint and I just installed it. I'm getting this weird glitch, can anyone explain and help?

I've a laptop with Nvidia GPU (T1000), which I'm using with Kubuntu 25.04. For background, I'm well experienced with Linux and this laptop+Kubuntu has been my general non-gaming daily-driver for many years now. I want create a low overhead, near-zero tinkering, couch+TV gaming setup. Mainly because if I've to tinker I'm too lazy or tired and just end up watching TV instead of gaming (been many years since gaming).

I've a bunch of games on Steam and EGS, few indie titles and few AAA of 5-10yrs ago; same games that worked on this laptop+Windows 4 yrs ago. I tried Steam and Heroic Games Launcher from flathub, and they were working but with lots of perf issues -- some games worked, some didn't. And Steam's own UI was very laggy. I do have the proprietary Nvidia driver installed.

If I setup Bazzite on a different partition, can I expect a significantly improved / seamless experience, or should I just spend more time debugging/tuning my Kubuntu setup? Or is this just perf overhead of Wine/Proton translation and I need to upgrade hardware?

If yes to Bazzite -- is there a pointer to setting up Bazzite on a 2nd partition alongside some other Linux distro? I found a bunch of Windows+Bazzite dual boot tutorials, but no Ubuntu+Bazzite tutorials and few articles/posts mentioning this is complex -- needs 2 EFI partitions or manual grub modifications etc.

I see it when interacting with bottom right taskbar icons and in steam and sometimes in my browser. Very occasionally I'll also see it in a game, although it's not very consistent. it's only ever in the bottom right quarter of the screen though, never anywhere else. I'm a relatively new Windows-abandoner running CachyOS with KDE Plasma. I've got a 7800x3d and an RTX 4080 Super. Main monitor is an Asus PG32UCDP. Thanks for any help!

I have a lot of idle desktop games on Steam that I like to mess around with, but running any of them, the part that is supposed to be transparent and allow me to still interact with my desktop, is completely blacked out. Some of these games I can't interact with at all.

Anyone have similar games and managed to find a work around? I'm not dying to play them so if I can't fix it, it's no biggy, but I'd still like to use them.

Have Raceroom on steam tried several protons but wont start, i push play, choose 1 of the 3 alternatives the nothing happens. Linux mint. Have Bottles, wine but i dont know wich file to try it with. Plz help. With windows 8 i could run Raceroom and other games like f4, Dying Light but since windows 10 my pc got to slow for games, windows 11 it just couldnt do anything, not even watch youtube, yes i tried shutting of background programs but windows just started it again. Plz help i need to practice tracks before my real race car is fixed. I now have Linux Mint.

Hi, hope you all are good:) linux semi-newbie here. I'm having horrendous stutters while trying to play any steam game. Emulators runs fine, games like Roblox (Sober) Runs fine, too, but anything I tried from steam so far (Metaphor, Rivals2, Dark souls 1-3) had random lag spikes. The spikes starts randomly, from even the start of the game or like 5-10 minutes in. I tried monitoring my I/o and everything seems ok. Switched my sata for an nvme and problem is still there. Idk what else to try and I really don't want to go back to windows. Idk if shaders are the problem because when I enter an old zone i still have frame pacing stutters.

Idk if it's relevant, but sometimes when the lag spikes starts, they don't stop until I change zone/character.

PLEASE please help, I have like 1 month trying to make things work here :(

I'm new to Arch Linux, so bear with me here. Every single time I try to put in my drives in Steam menu > Settings > Storage, it just doesn't work after I select it. I'll figure out how to record it if anybody would like a recording of it. I've pretty much exclusively used Windows with all my time using computers, so I'll need help here.

Hola a todos, soy nuevo en Reddit, en la página y en Linux. Actualmente estoy usando Windows 11 así que entenderán el porqué estoy pensando en cambiarme a Linux. Tengo varias opciones tales como Pop!_OS, Mint y Nobara. Lo instalaría en mi laptop principal, cuenta con procesador AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon Graphics (2.00 GHz), 12,0 GB de memoria RAM, 256 GB de memoria y hasta donde tengo entendido poseo gráficos integrados. Mi uso principal es universitario (estudio Derecho así que más allá de programas de ofimática no necesito) y videojuegos. Por la parte universitaria uso Word principalmente y pocas veces Excel y PowerPoint, tengo entendido que WPS Office en Linux es una opción muy excelente, además uso Notion para apuntes pero me parece que puedo usar la versión web, otras aplicaciones son Spotify, HP smart print para mi impresora y OBS, Brave como navegador principal, Google Meet en su versión web y Zoom para una que otra clase virtual. Por la parte de videojuegos uso Steam, mis indispesables son: Red Dead Redemption 2, Left 4 Dead 2 con sus mods de Workshop, Minecraft (con mods aunque no sé si se puedan instalar en Linux, no he encontrado respuesta), Beyond Two Souls, entre otras posesiones de Steam.

Quisiera su ayuda para saber cuál debería escoger para adentrarme en Linux, si alguna de mis alternativas son las correctas, aunque sea para probar una semana para convencerme, o en tal caso, si desean, podrían darme algunas otras alternativas, o en us defecto, quedarme en Windows. Ya que vengo de Windows no me gustaría matarme la cabeza para instalar cosas, sé que nada es sencillo y estoy dispuesto a aprender a usar la terminal ya que es un mundo que me llama mucho la atención, pero tampoco soy un experto, me gustaría algo sencillo, moderno. I've installed open-dkms drivers, nvidia-smi shows GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and driver version 580.95.05

I believe i could have conflicting drivers installed via archinstall but as a newbie I haven't found a way to check if this is true

Proton BG 3 - 100 fps smoothly
Native BG 3 - 30-50 fps

When running the game natively mangohud shows that GPU is 100% loaded at 130 watt and 1800 MiB of VRAM

Do i need to install some packages to make native games run smoothly?

Very niche problem but maybe somebody knows the solution. When you run a game through proton a folder is created with a proton prefix. You can set an environment variable to change where this is, but by default steam will either put it in the folder of that steam library, so for example if you have a drive called Games that has a steamapps folder, it would be in /Games/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compadata while hte game would be in /common, *or* it could put it in ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compadata as a default location.

My issue is, I set up a gamescope session that I can switch to by pressing a button. It works wonderfully, but when I run steam on my normal arch desktop it will default to putting the compadata on the same drive as the game, and when I run it through gamescope it puts it in the default steam folder. This *still* wouldn't be a problem, but if ran this way it doesn't force a cloud sync, so it's possible for me to have two different saves for games when I don't want that for obvious reasons.

So my question is does anybody know how this behavior is determined and what I could do to preferably always make it prefer the drive for every game? I imagine the opposite is possible by simply setting the environment variable to a specific folder, but I'd rather not do that.

I'm building a solution for all kinds of open source to get built, especially where tons of people want something and don't want to program it themselves. It's a new take on social finance / crowdfunding called PrizeForge

Problems I started with:

• Kickstarter has no accountability because the lump sum is controlled by the campaign creator
• Patreon has no coordination. There's no threshold like with Kickstarter. It's basically volunteer if nothing can be put behind a gate, so it can't work well for open source.

In addition, I wanted to extend fund-matching in two dimensions, creating implicit cooperation between huge B2B budgets and everyone on down, from SMEs all the way to individual pro-sumers and casual users. The initial prototype is Elastic Fund Raising. Big funds don't fully move until lots of almost-as-big funds move together with them. By moving together, we're not just volunteering.

Delegation is a Game Changer

Social finance platforms also suffer from a catastrophic source of inefficiency: If there are N projects to evaluate by M users, then N x M decisions must be made. To make this more efficient, I decided early on to use a new kind of "social delegation" system. The "social" part is to enable filling the inevitable gaps with reasonable fallbacks and robust behaviors that make corrupt actions self-limiting. What delegation also gives us is the ability to elevate users with more expertise, meaning fewer Solar Roads style disasters.

Production Finance: Scratching Our Big Itches

One of the core ideas I want to focus on is what I'm calling production finance. It's a really simple addendum to ESR scratch-your-own-itch theory: When a lot of people (especially those who can't program) have the same itch, it doesn't make sense to wait for someone to scratch it for free. Especially bigger itches than one programmer will tackle alone can take forever even if hundreds of millions of people have the same itch.

Social finance 101 is to bundle people together until the value they expect to receive is much greater than the cost of producing or updating the valuable thing. The cost stays the same, but as we add people, the value captured by all the users goes up. Coordinating that finance of production is all that is required to make what is unreasonable to the individual into an obvious decision for a million users.

Production Finance makes sense whenever value capture is difficult, meaning situations where it's hard to put the result behind a gate and charge money for it. Open source absolutely fits that description. Instead of building a gate, we spend money to compensate and motivate production. In the future I want to work on tools that will allow more well-defined relationships. For now it's totally non-binding.

For something to make sense in production finance, there doesn't need to be a business or sales model at all. The value received from the production proceeding only must be greater than the cost. Given the tremendous economies of scale of software, that is an easy condition to hit for a lot of open source.

Toward Viability

In addition to a really basic initial implementation of Elastic Fund Raising, I've just added support for multiple streams. Each Stream that matches over $1000 will receive delegate(s) who will spend money on things that make that ecosystem stronger. Since we're just trying to motivate people to do first contributions and to release cool things a little more frequently, and since the agreements are non-binding, it really is like a weekly prize. If the affected communities feel like these prizes are effective, we are beginning to have a working service.

Raw Startup

These new pilot Streams I'm introducing on are also the milestone where I decided I was going to recruit co-founders again. In other words, I am still soloing everything for the near future. Things are changing fast and usually only half-implemented before changing again. That's the only way this kind of aggressive innovation usually survives.

You can follow the development on r/prizeforge though I've been making most updates on a bluesky recently. I think activity will pick up on both Reddit an our YouTube as I start introducing each stream, starting with Lem.

Hi there. I love linux, but still cant play without fear of any crash o unexpected behaviur. I choose Debian 13.1 with XFCE. I install nvidia drivers from https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers with Secure Boot enable (Default Bios Settings).

I hadnot any issue with installation. But first, i have to disable or uninstall light-locker because i get black screen on resume pc.

Others troubles is using Lutris to play old games like Resident Evil 3 Nemesis GOG edition or Helbreath Olympia. With RE3 quiting game pressing Escape and Enter (Prompt asking if i wanna quit the game). I get full reset of something to login like fresh start sesion without any error message.

I had to return to my Lenovo neo 50s 4th Gen with onboard graphics because the mesa intel drivers are super stables and havent any issues.

Whats wrong with first one pc? Nvidia still unstable to game? I have to install Open nvidia driver? I have to install other distro? Whats wrong! Thanks for tips
