weird freezes on the native discord client
So I've ran into a weird issue on a fresh install of EndeavourOS where discord freezes up after an arbitrary amount of time.
It's not a full on crash though, sound still works, streams still play, but i cannot interact with the window whatsoever (buttons also don't get highlighted when hovered over) Trying to move the window or trying to close the application entirely result in the standard application hang popup, after which the client terminates and can be restarted normally.
Googling only left me with results related to hard crashes and problems with hardware acceleration. Trying any of the listed changes did nothing whatsoever.
I'm hoping anybody has seen something like this before and might be able to provide some insights.
System Config is a 5950X, 7900XTX, 64GB RAM, latest OS Version and packages, latest version of discord.

Thinking about switching over to Linux.
Currently running Windows. Have RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 9700X. I like what Linux represents (freedom, customization, minimal bloat etc) but I'm interested in gaming primarily, and I've heard conflicting reports about gaming performance on Linux. On one hand I've heard that Linux running a Windows game through proton can run better than the game running natively on Windows. On the other hand, I've heard that NVIDIA's Linux drivers aren't great and that I'd end up losing a lot of performance by switching to Linux. Wondering what peoples experiences have been like, particularly with NVIDIA GPUs I guess.

OpenMandriva for gaming and daily driving?
My first post here and I'd like to ask if OpenMandriva is good for daily driving and gaming(I am still a beginner), and currently using Aurora by UB but it's been causing me issues. I do my college work and lightweight gaming on the side like Mass Effect or F1 2010. I haven't tried it out yet and if you do recommend it, could anyone tell me if I should choose Rock or Rome version of OpenMandriva?

CS2 Crashing PC Every Hour
Hi! Currently I am using Kubuntu with a RX 7700XT as my primary GPU. For some reason every hour or so while playing CS2 underneath Linux my entire computer will suddenly freeze and crash. This is the only game that this occurs in and I know it's at the minimum not a physical hardware issue (Overheating, etc...). I believe all of my drivers are updated to the latest version. I am running it native with no pre-shader caching if that has something to do with it. It's just weird because this is the only game that this issue occurs in and its very sporadic and requires a complete restart of my PC.

Tried Linux gaming today, felt severely disappointed
I wanted to get into playing Windows games on Linux. I already did prefer Windows 10 to Windows 11 (hence why I installed it even though my laptop came pre installed with Windows 11), and I am not too afraid of Windows 10’s End of Support. However, when I heard that people on Linux were getting even more FPS than on Windows, I thought I would give it a shot.
I set up Pop OS, installed Steam and Proton Experimental, installed Lutris, used it to run Cyberpunk2077.
Around 40 FPS. Nice.
Then I tried running the benchmark on Windows 10. I got 48 FPS.
Felt bad because I put in a lot of work to make sure my Pop OS install worked well, and that Cyberpunk would run.
Maybe my settings are not the same between the two? I’m not sure, but I did try to make them similar.

Talos Principle Reawakened Shadow Artifacts
Hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction to understand and hopefully resolve this issue with Talos Principle Reawakened.
The game has these shadow artifacts as you move around the game. The shadows look all chopped up and change its shapes as you move around. The character shadow renders correctly but most of the tree and building shadows don't match what you would expect and distort more as you move around.
I have a 9070 XT and 7800 X3D. I've tested on Fedora and Arch linux. Drivers up to date.
I tried different video settings, going from ultra to low presets, trying Raytracing on and off, FSR on and off, Fullscreen, windowed, vsync and so on.
No other game I've run has shown any similar artifacts, including Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 and 2, Spiderman Remastered, Baldur's Gate 3 and a number of older games.
Is this likely due to the AMD drivers not being mature for the 9070 XT? Has anyone seen similar issues with this game or other Unreal Engine 5 games? Thanks.

Steam gaming on Fedora 42 giving various issues
Hi all,
I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm brand new to Linux, so I'm still trying to learn all the terminology and proper way to address things. So please let me know if I'm missing any necessary information to add.
My issue is this: I'm trying to run games on steam (so far I've tried rocket league and portal 2) and I'm having issues getting it to work properly. I tried both the flatpak version of steam and the native RPMfusion version, each with different issues.
When I use the flatpak version of steam, the games all run on my integrated graphics card instead of my NVIDIA. To confirm this, I use NVtop. And when I run the flatpak version of steam, the games default to my NVIDIA GPU (hooray!) but now the steam overlay doesn't work (meaning no shift+tab and no FPS counter.) After much research and troubleshooting, I was able to get the steam overlay to run by opening steam with the following command in terminal: [STEAM_RUNTIME=1 steam] However, this caused games to start using my integrated GPU again. So basically, I have to choose between the steam runtime or my NVIDIA graphics card.
I don't have a screenshot of my current laptop specs, but I can grab it later if need-be. In the meantime, my laptop is the ASUS ROG Strix (2023) G614JI-SS74 (all its specs can be found here: https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-strix/rog-strix-g16-2023-series/spec/)
Would anyone be willing to help me figure this out?

What's left for Nvidia to do in terms of Linux drivers?
As per the topic, what functionalities are still missing to make the drivers work perfectly with Wayland (both to work and gaming)? I literally just switched back to Windows from Manjaro a couple of days ago as I've had a lot of little glitches, and I'm curious to see what it looks like in the bigger picture.

Як ви запускаєте windows ігри і програми в linux?/How do you run Windows games and programs in Linux?
I am currently using arch linux and running games through wine in most cases everything is fine but sometimes there are artifacts in the graphics or it doesn't start and in principle this is enough for me but I would like to know how you run windows games and programs maybe I don't know something? tried proton but never picked up a normal version, they all lag a lot

how do i install BS manager on Linux mint? i am very confused
I started using Linux mint yesterday so i dont realy know anything.
I have tried the method on a steam guide (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?l=german&id=2337011257) but the 1st step confuses me. I downloaded the .flatpak file from the github but what file path do i need to type in there?
I tried this guide too:https://github.com/Zagrios/bs-manager/wiki/install-bsmanager-on-linux
However i get errors that somewhy contain not existing spotify links. and:
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
The universal method gives the error "no such file found" when using the command. I dont know what is meant by "After installing, download the .flatpak file in the releases and run the following command:" Flatpak is installed but where do i get the .flatpak file from and what is the release?
I dont know what i am missing. please help.

SaveState is an open source versatile game save backup manager - now with Linux support
Sunshine + arch linux
I swear i tried: - reddit - any stackoverflow - chatgpt - any guides i could find
But i can’t get arch + gnome + wayland + sunshine work after boot. What I achieved right now: - setup an autologin in gdm and lock session after with loginctl lock-session command in a service or autostart desktop entry - setup for sunshine and enabled it’s service - connected via an iphone
What i need to achieve - after the boot the user entry automatically inside gnome but presented with a lockscreen (not the gdm one) but sunshine is started and i can login with configured devices (like the iphone), of course when entering with sunshine you need to login in the locked session
What i’m getting - it seems that as soon as the screen lock with “loginctl lock-session” the display is not available (even if a virtual display) and so it cannot start.
Can you help me?
