Weird issue when recording Minecraft with some mods

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Oktober 2025 - 00:25

First off, I just want to make it clear that I'm not a beginner to Linux, so you don't necessarily need to walk me through every step.

I have an issue when recording Minecraft. Sometimes, a part of the screen on the top randomly becomes black (it's very hard to explain) and I'm not sure how to resolve this. I didn't notice this happening with vanilla Minecraft, but when I use mods I noticed this. It only happens in Fullscreen. I tried turning off Cinnamon's "Disabling compositing in full-screen windows" but it didn't help.

Here is a clip of what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNHrjfzxmUE

Here is my Xorg.conf.

Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" Option "Coolbits" "24" # Option "TearFree" "on" # Doesn't seem to do anything in recent driver versions Option "TripleBuffer" "on" # Doesn't seem to make any difference Option "ForceCompositionPipeline" "1" # I need this or I get really bad screen tearing in all games EndSection

My operating system is Linux Mint 22.2 Zara, and for drivers I am using nvidia-driver-570-open (version is 570.172.08-0ubuntu0.24.04.1). 580 drivers cause other unrelated issues, so I'm not using them.

My system specs are an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and an Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti. I have the GPU overclocked +400 core and +2000 VRAM but I don't think that should affect anything.

I'm using OBS (Flatpak; version 32.0.1) and Minecraft 1.21.4 (via Prism launcher) with the following mods:

GPU clocks drop heavily in Dota 2 on Linux - TDP issue?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Oktober 2025 - 00:06

Hey everyone, I'm running Arch Linux on a Acer Nitro. I noticed a weird behavior in Dota 2:

When there are few objects (like in a lobby), GPU clocks are normal:
❯ nvidia-smi -q -d CLOCK

Clocks

Graphics : 915 MHz

SM : 915 MHz

Memory : 4001 MHz

Video : 855 MHz

But when many heroes/effects appear, clocks drop immediately:

❯ nvidia-smi -q -d CLOCK

Clocks

Graphics : 1095 MHz

SM : 1095 MHz

Memory : 4001 MHz

Video : 1005 MHz

In ranked games, after ~10 minutes of play, clocks can fall further to ~800–1000 MHz.

Specs: Ryzen 5 3550H, GTX 1650 Max-Q, Hyprland 0.51.1, Driver 580.95.05.

Could this be a TDP/power limit issue? Any tips for safely maintaining higher clock speeds under load?

P.S. It's not overheating—the GPU temperature doesn’t go above 55°C.

So, how to properly screen record/stream on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. Oktober 2025 - 21:55

Yes, i know the go to reply is OBS, but it's literal trash on Linux for me and I'm clueless what to do about it.

But first, my specs are: Dell G15 5530, RTX 3050 laptop version with 6 VRAM, i5 13450HX (i think, not sure), 16GB RAM, Fedora 42, 600MB broad band internet.

On Windows OBS just works, I meddle with some stuff here and there to toogle an scene where it starts recording/streaming solely the full screen stuff, being the game, and that's about it, just need to regulate the mic volume sometimes.

Went to test OBS on Linux and on start I can't find some configurations that I have on windows for some weird reason, like this one to capture only the full screen stuff.

My audio is constantly duplicated, i managed to uncover that is due to OBS somehow capturing both my desktop audio and my headphone audio (i think that's what was happening), and when I turned off the mic capture, the duplicate audio would vanish. The thing is, i was solely using the headphones for audio output, and the mic i was using were from the laptop itself, no sound was coming out of the laptop at all. So what to do about this?

The video recording quality and stream quality were literal trash, extremely low FPS and very poor video quality, even on recorded videos. On Windows i never had a problem like this and I just can't find anything to help me begin to fix all of this.

I don't want to have to download a game both on my windows SSD and my Linux SSD (I dual boot) in order to be able to stream pr record it whenever I want to.

PS: I'm not tech expert, and somewhat a noob in therms of PC and Linux, specially for gaming.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. Oktober 2025 - 21:51

Im trying to run tomb raider 2013 on steam with linux mint (not using wayland) but its not working. I click the launch button but it doesnt even launch.
Ive tried using every proton version on steam and every GE-proton version but nothing worked. Shadow of the tomb rider and Rise of the tomb raider worked just fine.

Has anyone gone through this problem and solved it?
