Other News about gaming on Linux
Looking for help choosing a distro.
I have a mini pc (Minisforum UM870) and I want it to be my Linux gaming desktop. After much research I think I will go with either Bazzite or CachyOS.
What is the consensus for ease of use and performance? The iGPU is an AMD 780m.
Thanks!!

Enabling GSYNC on fedora, need help
Hi everyone!
I’ve been testing Linux (Fedora 42) for gaming, and honestly, I’m super impressed by how well most games work. But trying to enable G-SYNC has been a nightmare.
Here’s what’s happening:
✅ On Wayland, the nvidia-settings utility is missing most of the options (no G-SYNC toggle, no G-SYNC indicator). So I installed an X11 session instead.
✅ On X11, the nvidia-settings options finally appear. I enabled G-SYNC and turned on the indicator…
→ But when I launch games, the indicator always shows “Normal” (no G-SYNC active).
Sometimes G-SYNC kicks in after toggling between fullscreen and windowed multiple times, but only whenusing VRR testing tools (https://github.com/Nixola/VRRTest)— it works once in a while, but no reliable behavior.
I read that Wayland now supports G-SYNC, but since nvidia-settings has no G-SYNC options or indicator on Wayland, I can’t even tell if it’s working.
At this point, I just want any reliable way to make G-SYNC work (either Wayland or X11, doesn’t matter).
What I’ve tried so far:✅ Experimental features:
gsettings get org.gnome.mutter experimental-features
Result :
['scale-monitor-framebuffer', 'variable-refresh-rate', 'xwayland-native-scaling']
✅ Kernel parameters:
cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=(hd0,gpt4)/vmlinuz-6.14.5-300.fc42.x86_64 root=UUID=18dd1431-dd25-4851-8492-c85471e7a9da ro rootflags=subvol=root rd.luks.uuid=luks-c38ec1cb-0e59-43e8-a056-10e782b6553b rhgb quiet rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau modprobe.blacklist=nouveau nvidia-drm.modeset=1
✅ Xorg config:
Here’s my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
bghjhj
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 570.144 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "Files" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "Monitor" # HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: edid Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "Acer XB271HU" HorizSync 34.0 - 222.0 VertRefresh 30.0 - 144.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090" Option "AllowGSYNC" "True" EndSection Section "Screen" # Removed Option "metamodes" "2560x1440_144 +0+0 {AllowGSYNCCompatible=On, AllowGSYNC=On}" # Removed Option "metamodes" "2560x1440_144 +0+0 {ForceCompositionPipeline=On, ForceFullCompositionPipeline=On, AllowGSYNCCompatible=On}" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "Stereo" "0" Option "nvidiaXineramaInfoOrder" "DP-0" Option "metamodes" "2560x1440_144 +0+0 {AllowGSYNCCompatible=On}" Option "AllowFlipping" "true" Option "SLI" "Off" Option "MultiGPU" "Off" Option "BaseMosaic" "off" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection My questions:- Is there any way to show G-SYNC indicator on Wayland?
- What’s the **simplest reliable way to make G-SYNC work (I don’t mind using X11 or Wayland — I’ll use whatever works best)?**

Keyboard drift on disgeapc steam
Hi, i would like to ask why is this happening? Whenever I put an external keyboard on disgeapc it will not stop drifting upwards, I know you can just tell me to just use the dedicated keyboard, but on my defense I would like to use the dedicated keyboard less to prolong it's life. Is there a fix on this? Thanks

Nintendo Switch Combined Joy-Cons doesn't work anymore on Fedora 42
I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem, in any case I can no longer use the two joycons as one joypad.
I used to pair up the two joycons separately, insert them into the slot and press the triggers to make them read as a single joypad.
Before the LEDs would flash continuously and once paired only the first LED of each joycon would light up, now they are fixed at 1 and 2 LEDs lit (respectively) and there is no way to get them to read as a single joypad.
I'm on fedora 42, kenel 6.14.5

Dune Awakening - Linux?
I have the opportunity to try Dune Awakening over the next 2 days, and wondered if anyone else has tried this game on Linux. It has Battleye enabled. I would rather someone else used the special code if it is not yet compatible.

Directx 11 failure.
Hi everyone.
I’ve encountered an interesting error.
There’s a game called BlazBlue Entropy that I’ve been playing for quite a while. I purchased it on Steam, and it has never caused any problems before.
However, this week, right after launching it, it immediately crashed with an error.
With Proton experimental.
Error message:
Failed to initialize graphics.
Make sure you have Directx11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled.
3d acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed.
After switching to proton 9.0 its okay.
But i have never changed the proton version last week or anytime.
What happened?
OS: Ubuntu 22.04
PC: Acer Aspire A515-57 Laptop – i7-12650H, 32GB RAM, and Intel UHD Graphics.

Need a gpu
Well... I want to buy a GPU for my old PC but the problem is that the one I was planning to buy is no longer in stock (AMD RX6400LP). Looking at other alternatives I only have the Nvidia RTX A400 but I do not know if it works well in Linux (Fedora KDE).
I want to clarify that my PC is only used for office and multimedia, also it doesn't have Resizable Bar.

Playnite alternative for Mint Linux
Been thinking about trying out linux for a bit but didnt want to try and learn a whole new os. So I heard Mint was a great starting point to get you invested in the world.
On windows I would use Playnite and I like it specifically because it allows me to put specific games on it even if I dont have them downloaded on something like Epic games launcher or steam (bc Im a filthy pirate). Seems like it wont work on mint so was hoping yall knew one that works on mint!

Kernels on Mint
Hi everybody! I'm new to Linux (installed mint 22.1 a few days ago) I'm trying to get accustomed to this new style of OS and I have some doubts when it comes to gaming. I've been hearing a lot about custom kernels (or something like that) and I'm not sure if having one is mandatory or if it's just something optional for better performance. For reference, I have a Nvidia RTX 4060 and a AMD Ryzen 5500, I ussually don't play very demanding games but I still wanted to know if it is worth it to upgrade my Kernel.

Importing Minecraft Bedrock Worlds [Mint]
Hey everyone, got a question,
Since I'm on my new Linux PC, I had to put all my Minecraft Bedrock worlds from my old computer onto a Google Drive so I could import them over.
Now that I've got Bedrock on Linux Mint, how can I import my worlds over?
Thanks.

Forza Horizon 4 won't go fullscreen.(FEDORA KDE)
Hey, I have this issue where when I go fullscreen (ALT + ENTER) in fh4, the screen just goes black and whenever I click, it makes the Fedora fullscreen sound until I take it out of fullscreen again, where it works fine in windowed mode. This issue persisted on Linux mint in the past as well.
I have tried: Rebooting Reinstalling Setting fullscreen in the startup commands (using -full and - fullscreen)
can someone please help 🙏
