Hey so I have a bad PC and really want to enjoy a few lightweight games, so I downloaded Dark Souls Remastered, wich runs OK on windows, however the game's pacing is tied to your FPS, so if you play below 60 the game runs in slow motion. Haven't tried playing any other game yet, but it shows this error when i try launching the game. Not an issue of not meeting system requirements because i can play it on windows, and steam's compatibility mode showed no results. Any help?

Edit: As I said i have a bad PC (i5 4570, HD4600) and that gpu does not support vulkan on windows, but it does support 1.0 vulkan on linux, so it should run... right? (i'm not certain how does "proton" work)

I use CachyOS to game on, and FFXIV's FPS tends to degrade over time with my new 9070 XT. This degradation wasn't present before I upgraded from my RTX 3080, and doesn't happen in any other games I play, like Monster Hunter Wilds or Expedition 33.

It's also the only game that didn't see any FPS boost from upgrading the GPU at all. My entire gaming library got some sort of FPS increase after switching to the 9070 XT, but Final Fantasy XIV stayed at around the 50~70 FPS average on launch, which drops to around half that after an hour or so of gameplay, where it stays until I re-launch the game.

I did a full clean reinstall of CachyOS recently to see if it would fix my issues to no avail. I also attempted to install the game via multiple means; the Flatpak version from the Discover app, installing it via Lutris, and as a non-steam game all yielded similar results.

LACT doesn't show any GPU thermal throttling as the game remains open, the temperatures stay at around 50~55 degrees C with the fans running at around 30%. BTOP shows the CPU usage for the game is around 26~35% with temps at 46 degrees C.

PC Specs are:

• Intel i7 12700K
• 32GB DDR5 4800
• Asrock Z790 Riptide
• Asus Prime RX 9070 XT
• 500GB + 1TB Samsung NVME SSDs (OS and non-program files stored on 500GB, games and programs installed to 1TB)
• 1440p display

This is my first time troubleshooting here, so if there's any information I'm missing or anything else that would be helpful, just let me know and I'll provide what I can.

Hello everybody! Recently I switched to Linux for my gaming PC and there is no way I will ever regret that. The point is, I have a, lets say old, laptop, which used to be a gaming laptop back in the day. We speak about a Zephyrus GX501:
CPU: i7 7th gen 2.2 GHZ base
GPU: 1080 max-q design
RAM: 16gb DDR4

The point is: I would like to switch this laptop to Linux so I can give it a chance to run small games like Luma Island, Stardew Valley and so on. This is the laptop my girl uses to play with me.
The problem is that if I install Windows, in less than 100 gaming hours it starts to run very, very bad.
Can you recommend me the best Linux distro that I can try on this laptop? Thank you a lot!

I also want to mention that I do not expect for it to run all the games at maximum graphics with 60 fps, all I want foe it is to give a better and a smoother experience to my girl.

Hola que tal, hace unos días me instale cachyOS en mi computadora para probar linux, pero tengo un pequeño problema que no puedo solucionar aun. Tengo un mando genérico de la marca seisa, steam me lo detecta normal puedo jugar juegos desde ahí pero el emulador no detecta el control. ya intente con varios métodos, usando programas como Sc controller, Antimicrox y algunos comandos para transformar mi control genérico como un control de xbox pero no funciono. alguna idea?

I recently switched to linux and just the other day I wanted to play l4d2 with my friends. When I installed and launched the game for the first time on linux there was a huge delay in the sound and none of the settings help even changing snd_mixahead values or running snd_rebuildaudiocache in l4d2 terminal. I have also verified file integrity many times and tried a couple of launch options.

I am on ubuntu running the latest nividia drivers for my gtx 1070ti none of my other games or apps have this audio delay.

I appreciate any help

After some testing between titles like Doom the Dark Ages, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, something has happened to my desktop. Previously I was able to play these titles at maxed out settings no issue. Currently, I can’t even play them longer than 10 minutes. It just completely shuts off the computer. I’ve changed a few settings around and changed kernels a few times but nothing is working.

For reference I have Fedora 44 running:
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
32 Gb of ram
AMD Radeon 9070XT

Running that on a B560M Aorus elite motherboard and that is supplied by a seasonic focus 850W power supply.

I’ve tried the CachyOS kernel and the normal Kernel 7.0.4, but I come to you now because I know these games use to play fine. Currently there doesn’t seem to be a temp issue, the computer doesn’t get hot at all, I do see 99% GPU utilization which I know isn’t good, but I just find it odd that before I can do this and now I can’t. I mean I would run 1440p 120fps with FSR on, now I’m lucky if that lasts 5 minutes of gameplay before my computer just completely shuts down, which I’ve never even seen before. If I crank it down to medium and 60fps it seems to be okay, but what happened? Anyone have any ideas? Anything I should change with the wattage of my GPU? Thought about doing that, but surely it can’t be that…can it?

hi!, I hope I'm just being stupid and this is dead simple, I want to use elden ring with elden ring debug tool, but elden ring debug tool cannot speak to elden ring.

is there any way change this behavior? I assume it has something to do with each thing is in its own "container", but I am unsure if there is a way to just, combine them

Hello, I’m using cachy with the latest proton cachy version. When I play MH Wilds I can’t activate dlss frame gen even though I’m using a 4090 and dlss is activated, I can only use FSR frame gen.

Does anyone else has this problem?

Hello, I got some questions about linux performance tunning.

First of all i'm a linux noob that's trying to switch from windows.

So my problem is that i cannot set a undervolt and that my gpu isn't using all of its power, my laptop is a lenovo loq 15irx10, it has a i7 13650HX, and a RTX 5060 mobile, i'm currently using Fedora 44 with the 7.0.4 kernel, i have been trying to apply a undervolt to the CPU and a OC for the gpu but i have been facing some troubles:

1. The Undervolt isn't applying.

- i'm using intel-undervolt for the undervolt, but i havent been able to set it up correctly with the secure boot on my machine, i noticed this because when i'm on performance mode the CPU automaticaly jumps from high 80s to nearly 100c, in windows with the "undervolt applied" at max performance the cpu reaches a max of 87c (i was running MH wilds).

1. The GPU isn't running on its full wattage.

- i've been testing the performance and noticed that the gpu isn't reaching its max wattage, it stays at 45W (at least this is the wattage showed by LACT when running MH wilds) ..... ITS MINIMUM WATTAGE, also i cannot not see any metric of the dGPU on mangoHud, i'm using LACT to overclock it but since i cannot see the gpu core frecuency or GPU MEM frecuency on mangoHud i cannot see if it is correctly applied.

as of now this are my problems, i haven't noticed anything else.

BTW i now for a fact the NVIDIA gpus run worse on linux compared to windows, i'm currently using the latest driver 595.71.05 .

Time to test more games on CachyOS with my RTX 5090 FE.
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best games I've played in the recent years. either I platined the original PC release, I've just barely scratched the remastered version.

Game is perfectly smooth, as I'm using DLSS 4.5, preset M, Quality Mode. No frame generation required.

During cutscenes or title, I experienced some dual edge disconnection. Weird.

Hey everyone. I have the original Steam controller and the new one. Seems neither of these controllers play well outside of steam on linux. I wanted to use some non-steam apps such as ES-DE to launch emulated games, but the steam controller refuses to work outside it's default desktop controls. (This is all happening on wayland, in case that is an issue)

I've tried to:

1. Change the desktop layout via: Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> Advanced Settings -> Desktop Layout -> Switching this to a default gamepad layout.

2. Installing sc-controller-git on arch linux

3. adding ES-DE as a non-steam game and launching it from there.

4. Pressing and holding either the start or steam button to switch the controller to gamepad mode (something steam deck users say work)

5. Turning steam off entirely.

Is it just me or is this controller totally useless outside steam on Linux? Seems ironic to me.

I am getting randomly but roughly 1/3 times the following error. The game works OK otherwise, but the stats in the end are not shown. Anyone else having the same issue or is this my lucky one?

Also, I have not been able to join anyone's game yet on Linux, but the on Windows from the same computer the game works OK (i.e. it is not router's fault).
