Thoughts on the upcoming gaming distros?
I have seen some YouTube videos on performance and some claim better performance from Pika and Chimera against some of the more popular options. The benchmark used was fps, but I am curious if anyone has tried any of these and their experience.

Alan Wake 2 - how is performance on AMD Linux (Bazzite / RX 9060 XT 18GB / R7 7700)
Why Switch To Linux?
Low FPS in A Plague Requiem
Hi, Is it normal that in the game A Plague Requiem, with an RX 9070 XT graphics card and a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, I’m getting 25–40 FPS? Resolution is 1920x1200 (16:10), all settings are on ultra. DLSS is set to quality. DLSS doesn’t help anyway, since I get the exact same framerate without it. Unfortunately, FSR isn’t in the game. And for some reason, OptiScaler and Lossless Scaling/lsfg-vk don’t work in any game for me :/ Frame generation improved performance, but I had to turn it off because I was having major issues with rendering things like the HUD and other visuals in the game. Is the game just that unoptimized and demanding, or is something wrong on my end? System: KDE Neon.

Nvidia, Wayland and gaming
Hey guys, I have a problem with my kubuntu with Nvidia 3050 and I am out of ideas, so I need your expertise.
I have settings with Wayland and x11 - sddm. However, playing on Wayland inflicts tearscreens in gaming (proton - lts and experimental). Despite that games work significantly better than on x11.
I tried reinstalling drivers, Wayland and kde, configuring grub for Nvidia, modyfing Nvidia settings, modyfings in games settings, but nothing works.
Do you think I should do something more or just give up playing on Wayland protocol?

Just built my first PC, need help to choose an operating system.
I always used windows and macOS in the past, but now that I’m moving over to a PC Build, I want to get a Linux operating system. But there is just way too many distributions, so which one would be better for just gaming purposes ?
Also, how can games even be played on Linux when they’re usually only limited to windows ?

How would I go about running N64 Linux ports on Batocera?
Greetings all.
I currently have Batocera set up and I decided with all these decompilated projects completed, I would like to run them natively on my Batocera hardware. Star fox 64, Mario Kart 64 Super Mario 64 etc.
Does anyone have any experience or know any guides on how to get this process started?

Non tech guru distro exist?
I mean plug and play if possible.
Hi all,
I'm can't tolerate windows's privacy and its bloatware, so I decide to change to linux.
As an old IT man, I've working with windows server and linux server for all day, mostly are basic tasks though. I'm maybe enough skill to do this and that but I too tire for my job so I would avoid tinkering my OS if it not important.
Someone said linux require code compile to install drivers and stuff to properly runs something, I know it's not. I've tried ubuntu and mint and I known it's not that complicate to use linux.
But some games need other proton version to runs, that's right. And there're no exist something like one proton version run all games?
If I install multi version proton/wine will it seperate directory to manage my game's saves? Because I planning to migrate my saves to it, if proton split every directory for each version, then it will need more effort to do so.
My system is intel i5 12400f and nvidia 4060

For gamescope, does steam need to be ran with gamescope?
Basically I'm running Hyprland and window resizing may cause game to crash. Or some funky resolution glitches when changing the resolution.
I have noticed that if I run steam as normally (without gamescope), and run a game with a custom parameter eg. "gamescope -w 1440 -h 900 -r 90 -- %command%", the game crashes after processing shaders.
But if I run steam inside gamescope, gamescope works as expected but now putting a new gamescope settings per game will crop out image.
Is there a better way of doing this? Or is this expected/correct behavior?
Also how about game .desktop files? Running without steam with gamescope will crash the game if a game has gamescope parameter.

Need help on switching
My Machine :
gtx 1660 super
amd 2600x
16gb ram.
I was on windows 11 trial(i dont want to pay them), but, after a latest update, I can't customize sound device and felt weird frame drops in cs2 while playing casual mode (60-80 fps) and random stutters. I tried ubuntu, which seemed to beginner friendly from reviews. I installed steam and games, but, drivers are the bane for me.
First Problem, refresh rate is stuck to 60 hz, even if I made it to 144hz from display settings. I verified it from UFO site. https://www.testufo.com/
Main Problem, I just couldn't find a way to make it work, cs2 won't start. I searched forums and they told me to revert the drivers and install a "-550-open" and not "-tested" drivers. The game just doesn't start.
So, My request is how should I proceed ? or is there a different distro tutorial with proper steps to follow and everything should work. I use mainly for games and just basic pc browsing. With weekend coming, I want to spend some time and get this sorted.
thanks

Is it worth installing Playtron for PC gaming connected to a TV, or is it better to use Steam?
I was wondering how Playtron was doing. If it has the same features as Steam OS in terms of FPS and TDP limits...
If it's compatible with the Epic Games Store and GoG Galaxy and allows you to earn achievements and play time...

Coming from Windows 11 - Really interested in switching to Linux - having some doubts
Hello guys,
first of all, I've been lurking on this subreddit for quite some time.
I've also been binge-watching YouTube videos on various distributions, especially those focused on Linux gaming.
A few weeks ago, I installed Arch on my main gaming rig.
I strictly followed the Arch Wiki and managed to get it to a usable state.
Unfortunately, I felt like I made some mistakes along the way, and gaming performance took a huge hit.
I wasn't able to fix it, so after a few days of frustration, I gave up and went back to Windows 11.
Recently, I became really interested in trying out CachyOS. I really like how it helps beginners (and obviously the performance boost it offers).
My biggest concern is that I'm using an NVIDIA GPU, and many people here still complain about poor driver support and NVIDIA not addressing issues for months.
So my question is:
Is switching to Linux with an NVIDIA GPU still limiting in terms of gaming performance?
Here are the specs of my rig:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 (16GB)
- RAM: 32GB 3600MHz
- Motherboard: Crosshair VI Hero

To those who got the invite play-test for Fate Trigger, are you able to play the game?
As mentioned in the title, i got an invite but unable to boot the game from the launcher. currently there is no option to skip launcher and launch directly from steam. I'm using Zorin OS

How's the performance of 9070XT on Linux now?
I'm currently using Arch Linux KDE Plasma 6.4, running on MESA25.1 and kernel linux6.15.7.
Has MESA25.1 fully supported 9070XT already? How's the Ray-Tracing performance compare to Windows 11? Is FSR4 working good on Linux?

Help me choose a Linux distribution primarily for gaming, but also suitable for everyday use
Hello all,
I'm building a new PC. I've already decided on all the components, but I'm holding off on the build because my old system is still working fine, and there's no rush. The new setup will feature a 9800X3D paired with an AMD 9070XT.
Now, regarding distributions:
For context, I'm familiar with Linux Mint Cinnamon. It's been installed on my old laptop for several years, and I'm quite happy with it. I did some research, and since Linux Mint is an LTS release, I might encounter some issues with the new components, especially the 9070XT. However, it seems nothing too difficult to tinker my way out of. Although i'm no expert in any way.
In theory, I won't have a problem using Linux Mint on my new system, but I wanted to try some other options. I installed a few live distributions on a USB drive and really liked the KDE Plasma environment. I also found that some advice suggests to not install KDE plasma over Linux Mint, so I explored the following KDE Plasma-based distros:
- Fedora
- KDE Neon
- CachyOS
- OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
For some probably random reason, I ended up liking Fedora and OpenSUSE the most.
Here are my questions:
- If something breaks for whatever reason, which distribution will give me the most resources to easily fix the problem? Linux Mint has a large community and tons of information, but how do the others compare in that regard?
- Is there a significant difference in the Discover module? I like downloading things from the actual source, but having a "store" is really handy for easy installation.
- Wayland or X11? As far as I know, Cinnamon in Linux Mint uses X11, while KDE Plasma supports Wayland. Is there any noticeable difference in performance or compatibility for general use or gaming?
- Any notable differences for gaming? OpenSUSE is rolling and should stay up to date with drivers, but is that always the case?
I know there's never a definitive answer, and I'll probably be happy and functional with Linux Mint, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you

Upgraded fron 6900 XT to 9070 XT - no performance difference?
Hey there,
yesterday I upgraded my GPU from the 6900 XT to the 9070 XT and hoped to gain a few FPS.
Unfortunately my hope was misplaced.
My CPU is a Ryzen 5800X (not X3D), I have 32 GB RAM.
Running a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (WQHD)
I benchmarked 3 games before I switched the CPUs:
Game/Benchmark AMD RX 6900 XT FPS AMD RX 9070 XT FPS (mesa-latest) AMD RX 9070 XT FPS (mesa-git) Shadow of the Tomb Raider 137 139 145 Couner Strike 2 240 230 189 Dota 2 Timedemo 78 88 95 Dota 2 Idle local match 100 260 250Table formatting brought to you by ExcelToReddit
As you can see, the results are very conflicting.
I was baffled with the FPS increase in Dota 2, a game that I thought is heavily CPU bound, but marginal performance difference in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which is the kind of game, I would have expected to profit from the GPU upgrade.
Now, I am running Nobara (6.15.5-200.nobara.fc42.x86_64) and I have not installed any new driver or so, since upgrading the GPU - do I need to do something?
The driver manager says I am on the latest stable MESA driver
