How to automatically manage CPU temps with on Linux? (Ryzen 7700X)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 20:51

Hey everyone,

I’m running Fedora 42 (Bazzite) with a Ryzen 7 7700X and a 7900XTX.
When I play demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, my CPU temperature easily spikes up to 96°C, which feels way hotter than what I was used to on Windows.

What I’ve learned so far:

Linux doesn’t apply power limits by default

The CPU starts thermal throttling around 95–100°C, which can hurt performance (obviously)

I’ve already installed ryzenadj and can manually apply Eco Mode (--ppt-limit=65000, etc.)

What I want to do:

Automatically switch to Eco Mode when CPU temp goes above 94°C, and return to Stock Mode when it drops below 90°C — to prevent thermal throttling while still maintaining good performance when temps allow.

Is there a Linux alternative to Ryzen Master that allows temp-based profiles?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Assetto Corsa Wine problems

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 18:27

This game is driving me crazy. I try to install assetto corsa on my fedora 42 PC for three days multiple hours a day. Without success. I dont think that I can achieve this without help. I did many many reinstalls and even tried to reinstall proton. Now, I cant even get the base game to launch. It either does a silent crash or just doesn't launch at all. I followed nearly every guide that I could find; everyone did it another way, but nothing works. No matter what, i dont even get errors that i could work with. I now followed this tutorial https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gZvP_aLAB9a4HkvloZtZt7K6lwYccPKf9N542kbazQc/edit?pli=1&tab=t.0 and noticed some potential problems. Nothing from these commands installs without some really big problems. It has a lot of errors with wine64

So i removed everything regarding wine and installed it again with "sudo dnf install protontricks". That installs with the error "Scriptlet output:
>>> /usr/bin/wine64 has not been configured as an alternative for wine"

Has all of this wine not being installed in the right way something to do with assetto corsa making so much trouble?
The guide that im now using (https://github.com/sihawido/assettocorsa-linux-setup) doesnt say anything about a specific wine version. But this all seems a bit suspicious to me.
And the just following the guide doesnt work for me.

Can someone please help? Give some tips, or (if one has the time) even help me troubleshoot what the hell is wrong with my system?

Sitenote: I already had assetto corsa running on this machine about a year ago, then i had steam via flatpak, now its installed via the fedora repos. There it was also a pain to install, but it worked. I then switched to native steam and assetto corsa is broken

Razer Naga Classic button mapping

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 18:17

Does anybody know the best way to remap the Razer Naga Classic buttons? it's not supported by openrazer but it has onboard memory so I got a Windows VM to set it up but it's not being recognized by the VM even after getting the extended tools pack for virtualbox and trying various USB setting and making up a manual filter for it. I have no access to a Windows machine atm. I'm using endeavourOS.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 18:16

So, on ProtonDB I have found a Few tips about how to run Once Human, Editing .Config files and using Proton-GE, but all of that is about perfomance, I have a different problem, My game just freezes and then it crashes after a few seconds on the map, And if I try to let the game pre-cache the shaders, the whole PC freezes while doing it until It turns off completelly or restarts.

Happens on Proton Experimental or GE.
Everything is updated.
Game is set on 1080p Lowest Settings.
I'm running Arch Linux.
Specs: Ryzen 5 3600x, 64GB 3200, RX 7600. Game is running on a M.2 NvME.

Opening Sober crashes my system

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 17:25

I installed Sober about a week ago using the Software manager. It worked fine. No issues.

Now when I try to open it, it freezes for a second, then it logs me out of my user account. Not the game, the actual operating system. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app from the Software Manager but it didn't work. It just crashes my system again.

Does anyone know why it's doing this and how I can fix it? I am using Linux Mint 22.1 Cinamon. Kernel version 6.8.0-63-generic

Mouse stuck at 12 Mbps over USB 3.0 on Linux — how to fix low-speed HID issue?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 15:59

Hey, I’m running Bazzite KDE on my laptop and I noticed my mouse — a VXE Dragonfly SE+ — is always showing up as a 12 Mbps USB device, even when plugged into a proper USB 3.0 port.

Here’s what I get from lsusb -t:

Port 002: Dev 007, Class=Human Interface Device, Driver=usbhid, 12M

Even though the port is USB 3.0 capable (10 Gbps), the mouse connects at USB 1.1 speeds. I double-checked, it’s not going through a hub or monitor, and I’m using a direct port on my laptop (Intel i7 11800H + RTX 3070M).

I want to minimize input latency, especially for competitive gaming like Dead by Daylight. Questions: 1. Is this normal behavior for high-performance mice under Linux? 2. Any way to force reconnect as USB 2.0 (480 Mbps)? 3. Would tweaking usbhid or using hid_polling help with latency? 4. Could this be a quirk of the mouse itself? On Windows it feels snappier.

Any help or optimization tips would be appreciated!

Is there a good DS4Windows alternative for Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 15:32

I use DS4Windows on, well... windows. But I'm wondering if there's a good alternative on Linux... And yes, I know "it just works", but I mean more advanced features. Like x360 controller emulation support, or setting the deadzone/antideadzone, or hiding the physical controller like HidHide does. And I also use a profile where the swipe up & down on the touch pad are mapped to F1 and F3.

Update borked config of my controllers

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Juli 2025 - 15:13

Just launched Elite Dangerous only to discover all my controls had reverted to a default setting. ED does this when any controller changes.

Upon further investigation in Wine control panel, what used to be a "Generic Gamepad Controller" (or something like that, ED recognized it as "0079189C") it now thinks it is a "Nintendo Switch Pro Controller". It is actually a steering wheel and pedals, but always worked fine as a generic controller.

BUT! It looks like Wine is just acting off what the base system is saying. In jstest it reports ".Pro controller", so i think the misreporting is happening here.

I did just do a kernel update this morning, so it could be related.

I don't want to just remap everything because a) it takes ages, so many controls, and b) the pedals for the steering wheel are now acting as digital instead of analogue and the other mappings are also borked.

How can i get the system back to recognizing the steering wheel and pedals as a "generic" controller?

EDIT: Just to add, lsusb also shows it is as a nintendo controller, which it isn't.
