More than ten years after its release, Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball has received the massive Update 10 on Steam - shortly followed by Update 10.1 with further improvements and bug fixes.
Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball is a multiplayer shooter where unicycle robots battle each other with dodgeballs in neon-drenched disco arenas. According to the developer, this is one of the biggest updates the game has ever seen: multiplayer now runs over Steam Networking, a new instant replay system was added, and the game was moved to Unity 6 - players who don’t meet the resulting higher system requirements can keep playing the old version via the new “legacy” branch.
Update 10:
- Multiplayer now runs over Steam Networking, allowing extreme low latency setups for LANs and automatic direct connections among computers on the same network. No more ‘regions’ - all players are in one big lobby list, browsable by ping.
- You can invite friends through Steam Networking and they will automatically join your game.
- Improved syncing / prediction for bots and dodgeballs so it should feel less laggy.
- Added instant replay system - see how you got KO’d, and the final KO of the match is replayed for everybody.
- Improved bot AI - they can identify threats, swerve to become a harder target, and are much more accurate throwing shots especially at flying targets.
- Bots explode into real pieces when they are KO’d.
- Added ’events’ to support Steam Timeline.
- Improved spectator camera, various performance improvements, improved bot shield shader.
- Bug fixes: boss health bar disappearing, inventory item counts, leaderboards not updating, floor lighting glitches in Airborne.
Please note: this update included an update to Unity 6, which now has a minimum requirement of Windows 10. A new branch ’legacy’ with the previous game version is available for those who don’t meet the new requirements.
Update 10.1 (incl. bonus update 10.1.4):
- Fixed bugginess that would occur when host changed in online match (bots frozen, unable to pick up dodgeballs, etc).
- Added Match Voting (when level / mode / team setting is random).
- Reduced unnatural ‘dodgeball sync’ causing dodgeballs to float and change direction midair.
- Instant Replay better synced with the thrower’s perspective, letterbox effect, no longer shows the bot HUD.
- Improved Report / Ban / Kick functionality.
- Bonus update 10.1.4: Fixed remaining bugs that would occur if host changed at the very last second before a match changed to a new level.
