Nox, the 2000 action RPG by Westwood Studios, has joined the GOG Preservation Program following the second GOG Patron Vote.

Under the program, GOG reworks old titles so they run on current systems - which also benefits Linux players via Wine and Proton.

For Nox, the reverse engineering team removed the outdated compatibility shim, added the GOG DXWrapper for correct display on modern systems and built in a selectable widescreen resolution in the options menu. Online multiplayer via the XWIS.net servers has also been restored.

To bring Nox to modern systems, the team strips out the outdated compatibility shim entirely and adds the GOG DXWrapper for proper display on modern systems, plus a custom widescreen resolution, selectable directly from the game’s options menu. With WOL dependencies restored, along with the correct registry entries, the GOG version of Nox can now actually reach XWIS.net, ready for a new generation of players to duel it out. Stability and compatibility have been verified with both Windows 10 and 11, and a lore segment from the original installer is archived as a downloadable video in the Goodies section.

The third Patron Vote also starts now, with five candidates: Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, The 11th Hour, Harvester, Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet and The Legacy: Realm of Terror.
