To mark its first anniversary on Steam, Wagotabi: A Japanese Journey kicks off its One-Year Anniversary Sale with 35% off for two weeks.

Wagotabi is an RPG adventure that combines learning Japanese with a journey through real Japan - vocabulary and grammar are taught through concrete everyday situations like asking for directions or ordering a bento.

Alongside the anniversary, a big content update (v1.00.0500) landed this week, adding the new Hokuei region and new native Japanese audio recordings for over 300 words and 420 example sentences in the first two prefectures.

We also released a big content update this week (v 1.00.0500), featuring Hokuei, and also new native Japanese audio recordings for the words and example sentences in the first two prefectures (300+ words and 420+ sentences).

Highlights of the past year:

  • More than 50 updates, including 6 major content updates related to Tottori Prefecture
  • Wagotabi got recognized by Okayama prefecture
  • Mochijapa joined the team as official native Japanese language teacher
  • Added the Kanji Radical feature in Kanjidex, new puzzle mechanics, listening-focused quizzes and several Focus Tests
  • Added Italian and Polish localization

Roadmap 2026/2027:

  • Nintendo Switch port (end of 2026)
  • Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S port (2027)
  • Conclude the 3rd prefecture (Tottori) and start working on the 4th prefecture
  • Replacement of all game audio with native professional voice actors
  • Full Japanese Mode (synchronized with or before the Nintendo Switch release)
