Vesktop/Vencord looks pixelated @ 200% scaling

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 03:33

System details: 7700X+7900XTX, Fedora 40, GNOME, Wayland.

Vencord seems to be really popular these days with how it supports screen sharing on linux, so I use it whenever I need to screen share. There are two things preventing me from daily driving this:

  • Lack of KRISP noise suppression (it does, but my friend thinks I sound worse than on discord)
  • looks very pixelated @ 200% global scaling

I am using two 27" 4K monitors and have set the scaling to 200%, since at 100% it's so damn small I can't read anything. Vencord seems to not know what to do with that:

Despite the scaling being an integer scaling, not even fractional.

I've tried looking into their github issues, searching for keywords 'blur', 'pixel', 'blurry', 'pixelated' but nothing comes up, same with searching the internet. Does anyone know anything about this?

Dragon's Dogma 2 ray tracing not aviable

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 03:09

As the title says I am unable to turn on ray tracing in DD2. I tried changing it in the config file but it doesn't do the ray trace rendering. Reinstalled and and tried different proton versions (including GE ones) but couldn't get it to work. Does anyone have a workaround for this or is it smth that must be patched in wine/proton?

Anyone else on Ubuntu 24.04 have issues opening Steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 02:47

Hello all,

Fairly new to linux, I wanted to see how I'd fair with Ubuntu as a daily driver for a few months and I'm currently having an issue with Steam where it just refuses to open back up after I close it. I can only reopen it after I shut down my PC and turn it back on or restart my PC but if I close it again, it won't reopen.

I noticed this after I was changing some settings that required a restart, sometimes Steam would restart but most of the time it wouldn't come back up, it would just remain closed even after clicking on the icon multiple times.

I even tried running it via the terminal but I get nothing other than a message that says that it's already running and I can indeed confirm that it is running by looking at the processes. The top menu bar also has a small steam icon so it technically is running but clicking on it doesn't bring up Steam, and that small orange dot that normally appears when there's an instance of an app running isn't appearing for Steam. I've had no sccess getting steam to come up.

When I originally installed Steam, I did it through the snap store but I was having this same issue and after some googling I came to the conclusion that the snap version appeared to have some issues so I removed it using sudo snap remove --purge steam and then installed it using sudo apt-get install steam and all apeared to work better until the issues started manifesting again.

Unsure what else to do at this point. I'm not sure if maybe it's the version of Ubuntu that I'm running in which case I wouldn't mind reinstalling a differnt version, I just got started using it so I don't have much saved at the moment. I didn't realize that verions 24.04 came out like literally the day after I decided I was going to try out linux

The only other strange thing I've noticed is that when I press the Ubuntu icon on the taskbar that shows my apps, I find two Steams when I look it up, one with an invisible icon and another with the Steam icon, not sure if maybe the uninstall of the snap version didn't work and there are still lingering files causing issues.

Any help is much appreciated :)

Apex Legends stuck on EAC initializing screen.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 02:27

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04, and I'm pretty sure I'm running flatpak steam.

I'm using Proton Experimental - Bleeding Edge (not bleeding edge 8)

I have the Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime installed. It is not being forced to use any compatibility tools.

Ps5 style wired controller with hall affect joysticks that work with Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 02:18

Seems everything I can find is Xbox style, but as someone who has used playstation controllers his whole life, I want that style!

Any suggestions? Especially if available in Canada.

I want wired for less input lag and hall affect to reduce the chance of stock drift.

Thanks!

Wine: warning: Running /usr/bin/wineserver -w. This will hang...

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 02:08

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600 X
GPU: RX 7800 XT
MOBO: B650 Eagle AX
OS: ArcoLinux
Kernel: 6.8.9
DE: Xfce 4.18
WM: Xfwm4
GPU Driver: amdgpu
wine: 9.8

Something is wrong with wine.
So i wanted to play Battlefield 1 (It worked like a hour before the problem occurred). It did not start at all, it crashed at the EA APP start. So I tried it with Lutris and it also did not start and i would get any kind of error message you can imagine.
I googled a bit and I did not found a solution.
I also tried to reinstall wine but I'm not quite sure if that really happened.

How easy is it to do Proton/Steam-based games on the Linux-Libre kernel?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 01:44

Title, looking to jump to something like Parabola or Triskel but all my attempts at trying to search up answers with regards to this are at minimum a year old if not more. I'm also gonna sneak in a question about which of the Libre distros are most up to date, I know Parabola is rolling release but how close do they chase the 'cutting edge' these days?

Running minecraft with older versions of openGL?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 01:12

I'm trying to run minecraft on an old thinkpad, core2 duo and intel mobile 4 series chipset, but the gpu runs openGL 2.1, so the launcher crashes. Is there a way to use mesa (it has version 22.3.6) or something else to run the game?

Fallout 4: massive memory leaks with Vulkan in Bottles

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 01:10

I installed Fallout 4 using bottles a few days ago and everything worked great with performance being an exception. It took me some time to figure out that setting the renderer to Vulkan in the bottle settings fixes my performance issues but know I have massive memory leaks filling my 32 gigs of RAM in about 20 minutes to half an hour making the game basically unplayable.
Does anybody know how to fix this? I'm not a Linux expert so I don't know which logs might be helpful so please just tell me if there are any.

Whats wrong with Garuda?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 01:05

Honest question. Im seeing people on this sub getting a massive hateb...when anyone mentions the distro and it sometimes feels like just hating on the "aesthetic", i could be wrong but it sometimes reads like that. What are the criticisms of the distro?

Can someone help me understand how Wine/Bottles work in Linux? (Read Description)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 00:30

I'm new to linux gaming. I wanted to try how games work so I gave it a go. On my Zorin OS I transferred an old game from a DVD in order to test how games work in general in Linux. After that I installed Wine using Terminal. Then I installed Zorin windows app support using Terminal which I think also installs some version of wine along with Bottles.

Case 1- I double clicked on the exe file and the game opened. Not fully but the first logo screen appeared.

Case 2- I created a bottle and transferred the game inside the .var/flatpak bottles directory and executed the exe. It also ran and the first logo appeared. Bottles app had a lot of configuration options including DLSS, Fidelity FX and many more. But the drawback is I've to put the game in the flatpak directory without it I can't use bottles. Also in the components section, under runner subsection there are two options soda-9.0-1 and sys-wine-9.0. I think one is included in the windows app support and another is the actual wine software.

Case 3- I tried launching the game using the terminal by giving command wine game.exe and it showed a lot of errors like Unhandeled type and broken nvidia Randr detected. I tried putting the game at different directories including .wine/directory but the game wouldn't launch only the errors were there.

So I've my doubts regarding these cases. First of all the double click case is the most convenient one. Just click twice and that's it. Bottles provides a lot of options and settings. So which is the best option to run games in linux? And how they differ? Which provides the best performance without any latency issues snd stutters?

Recommend me gaming notebook for Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Mai 2024 - 00:23

Hello everyone, good evening! I'm Brazilian and as many already know, our life is not easy haha, I wanted some recommendations for gaming notebooks that still have great hardware compatibility on Linux. Today I currently use a ThinkPad x230 with Debian 12 and this equipment of mine is already begging for a rest haha. You can recommend notebooks with fifth generation processors and above, there is no problem since the larger ones are more expensive for us Brazilians and end up making acquisition difficult. Thank you in advance for taking some of your time to recommend a machine to me haha.

BDO Issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. Mai 2024 - 23:59

Hi,

So I have been trying to get BDO (Black Desert) to run on my Linux Laptop using Pop! OS 22.04 (Laptop has Ryzen 9 CPU and Nvidia 3060 GPU) I have tried installing the website version using Lutris (Used Wine-GE) and Steam (Used Proton GE and experimental along with following any tips people had for non steam users in their proton reports) and can not even get past the launcher, it will either freeze before I can hit play on the launcher or it will not load the launcher and just say "Cannot access launcher. Please try again later"

https://preview.redd.it/z2n7k2kfs2zc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=579c3147ee648b02f97e8a5454e5bd5f6443eab5

I do see reports on proton of people being able to play the game (I know proton is mainly for games on steam but people from reports have gotten the website version working as well) TBH I am stumped I have some experience gaming on Linux but I am no where close to understanding how to figure this out on my own this issue seems to happen no matter how I install it.

Question about xone driver & chatpad support

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. Mai 2024 - 23:58

Does anyone have an Xbox one controller (connected wirelessly if that makes any difference) with the chatpad that can comment on what support means in this context? Does the chatpad get treated like a normal keyboard that can input as a standard keyboard does to any given program? Rather than app specific support as it seems to be on the Xbox One.

For context, the reason I'm asking is to see if I can seamlessly switch between an Xbox One and a Linux PC and have keyboard input for both machines. All of the third party controller keyboards have the dongle that make this switching behavior impossible (without switching the dongle around).

It's a shame they discontinued the chatpad, but if I hear from someone with experience using it successfully with xone with the ability to input in any given program like a normal keyboard, then it might be worth the silly markup over the 3rd party offerings.

Thanks for sharing your experience using the chatpad on Linux!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. Mai 2024 - 23:57
