FFXIV Ubuntu - Steam Snap

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 06:50

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trying to get FFXIV working on Ubuntu 22.04 using the Snap version of Steam. My FFXIV account is also using a Steam Service Account, and it seems that the FFXIVLauncher Flatpak will not detect my Steam account when Steam is installed as a Snap.

Currently I'm attempting to run the game just purely from Steam, and have tried various different Proton versions, including the latest 3 GE-Proton versions. When clicking on Play in the official launcher, I get the following error:

https://preview.redd.it/u2jn4vk9gjyc1.png?width=860&format=png&auto=webp&s=8ba2f63402bbcda03ca05d5e1da17a6f9b5b131a

I've been trying to research this, and come up with some solutions, but I'm coming up blank on this one. Any advice, support etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou!

Jedi Survivor has stopped working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 06:29

Hey guys. So I've been playing Jedi Survivor for the past few weeks. After a tiny bit of figuring out which version of Proton I should use (experimental) the game was working great and the only issue I was having was the odd crash to desktop. I believe that happened about two or three times in the first 14 hours in which I had played.

After the last time it crashed, it would no longer launch from Steam, and the EA app would launch instead. Ultimately, I ended up fixing that by verifying local files for the game in Steam. I was then able to play for several more hours until I turned my rig off and went to bed.

Now, I'm trying to launch the game again and it is again having the same issue where the EA app launches instead of the game when I try to launch it via Steam. This time verifying local files is not solving the problem. I've noticed that when it does not spend time building Vulkan shaders before "Preparing the game", then the EA app will launch instead of the game. I've tried different versions of Proton and nothing has solved the problem.

I'm about to try reinstalling the game but ultimately if I can't get it to launch, I will have no recourse but to boot into Windows. I don't really want to do that. This is why I dual boot, but I'd much rather not have to.

I've read a few threads around the internet suggesting that this problem is actually kind of common and often does not stay solved. Most of the threads are old and almost all of them involve Windows so they don't help much. Does anyone have any ideas in case reinstalling does not solve the problem?

EDIT: I suppose I should mention I'm running Linux Mint 23.1 with the kisak mesa PPA so I have the latest Mesa drivers for my RX7800XT and kernel 6.8.8.

Fable III: Issue with music & dialog?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 06:21

Hello, everyone!

I managed to make the game work with the help of Lutris and Proton GE 9.4, I don't have the games for windows issue, the game runs smoothly at 60fps and it looks beautiful, but for some reason the characters don't have dialog audio whatsoever, is there a solution for this....? (The game audio works fine, even the intro video has full audio, music and dialogue, but the game itself doesn't have any dialogue or music, I also tried all the audio settings in-game)

I have tried using multiple iterations of Wine & Proton (System 9.0 Wine, Wine GE 8, Proton 7, Proton 9, Proton Experimental, Proton GE 8.3, Proton GE 9.4), and have used it with compatibility for Windows 7 & Windows 10, and the result is the exact same.

I use Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.3 and have a Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 with the Mesa drivers.

Here's the log file of the last run i made: https://pastebin.com/ddnBwmvh

Please, LMK...

Thanks!

Is there a way to back up/export your presets in Input Remapper?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 05:47

Hey all! Quick question: I'm running Pop OS 22.04. I'm getting ready to do a fresh install. I'm backing up various things. I use a Razer Tartarus to play WoW, and I use Input Remapper to remap the Tartarus.

Does anyone know if there's a way to back up/export my presets from Input Remapper? I've been looking but haven't found one.

Thanks!

Latest Linux AMD kernels 6.9rc-5+ and 6.8.9+ may be causing some games to crash

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 04:11

For reference I am using EndeavorOS, AMD Ryzen 5 3500 6-Core Processor, Radeon RX 5500/5500M / Pro 5500M GPU

CS2 started crashing for me on May 2, after some sleuthing around (and getting a tip from a very helpful Valve moderator on github), it seems that the issue may be caused by latest linux-amd kernel release.

I am currently downgrading to linux-amd 6.8.v.8-2 (which was orphaned on April 29, just before I started getting crashes). I'll post an update if downgraded kernel fixes the crash.

Any HoloISO or SteamOS users around? I'd like to ask a question about lego games.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 03:47

I'd like to play some Lego games, does local co-op work smoothly or not? I'm unsure if the game would recognize an external controller or keyboard for playing.

All Proton games crashing after startup

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 01:50

Reposting this as the last time I accidentally gave it a title that made absolutely no sense.

Recently, I have been having issues getting games to start through proton. Whenever I try to start any game, using any version of proton, and using either the flatpak or runtime version of Steam, the game will crash.

The game will, if it has one, crash to it's own crash reporting screen. There are never any errors in the Proton logs, and when starting Steam through a terminal, there are never any errors reported there either.

Hades is the only game I have installed that showed any specific details:

Nintendo 64 Controllers on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 01:49

I've been playing the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time PC Port (SoH) on Mint and it's been a lot of fun. I've been using my PS5 controller which works well enough, except for when it comes to using the C-Buttons. They're mapped to the right stick by default, and its very easy to mistakenly do the wrong input.

Now, I suppose I could map them to the D-Pad and call it a day, but I figured I'd take the time to ask this question in hopes of not only finding an answer for myself, but for helping out others with this niche use-case.

I have a Hyperkin N64 to USB which works decently with Rosalie's Mupen GUI, but on Steam and using the native build of the PC Port not every input is read correctly, or in some cases aren't read at all.

Has anyone found success using N64 controllers on Linux?

Is there a tool similar to dxvk or vkd3d, to translate directx to opengl instead of vulkan?

Thanks!

Does anyone else get bad echoing when playing with headsets+mic?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 00:42

I've tried between 3 headsets and I don't know why this is happening. All my friends say that they can hear themselves really loudly from my mic. Then there is usually a very loud feedback effect that destroys your ears.

I can't figure why this is happening. Any advice or tips would be glorious.

Here's a video of the mic audio levels. You can see it match with whatever audio is playing on the pc, as well as ambient audio.

Headset Config

I have a 50mm headamame headset with a mic. I have an aux splitter to plug into my mic-in plug, and audio out plug on my pc.

Share Laptop for gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 05. Mai 2024 - 00:41

Hello, I've been trying to play Minecraft java in my laptop.

The problem is that my old laptops over heat and I want to use my newer laptop as it works better.

How can I run two instances of the game? The idea is that one plays on the tv with a kbm and the other one on the laptop screen and a kbm.

If there is a way to do it requiring a controller, please do not comment it as I do not own any of them.

Thanks!

CS2 crashes after Valve logo splash

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Mai 2024 - 23:22

Running AMD Ryzen 5500 and Rx 570. Using vulkan-radeon and mesa on an X11 setup with XFCE on Arch linux. Everything up to date. I am not able to get past the valve logo. verified files and everything. I am able to launch the game with proton but unable to join any games due to a VAC error (plus obviously I rather run native)

Here is the crash Dump

Steam client window resizing problems

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Mai 2024 - 22:58

I've been having some issues with the steam window stuck in psuedo fullscreen, unsizeable/unmoveable and crashing my DE repeatedly on Mint Cinnamon. Having fixed it I thought this would be worth sharing for anyone else having the same issues.

Following the comments here, I deleted the folder ~/.steam/steam/config/htmlcache/Local Storage/leveldb.

That fixed it and Steam now opens windowed and resizeable. I then turned back on the following interface settings and it still works (had turned them all off trying to fix it):

  • Scale text and icons to match monitor settings
  • Enable smooth scrolling in web views
  • Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views
  • Enable hardware video decoding

I'm just on the regular version of the client, no beta. I did switch to beta and it fixed it briefly before the problem returned so I switched back.

Hopefully this works for anyone else with the same issue. Happy gaming folks.

Resident Evil Sourcenext (+ Classic Rebirth) Installation Guide for Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Mai 2024 - 22:46

I saw a lack of guides online to how to properly run these games on Linux (and the ones that did required using a Windows install to install the games first and then move them to a Linux install). I also cover some Resident Evil 2 mods that other people couldn't seem to get working on Linux.

I specifically used Arch, but this should work for any distro. You need Wine and winecfg installed and any other software which are prerequisites to run games. My Xbox Series controller was detected under Input under Raw Input in the game config screen using xpadneo over Bluetooth and worked perfectly in-game. The game itself ran perfectly, no crashes or slowdown.

I have only tried this with Resident Evil 2, but I would imagine the process for 1 and 3 would be similar.

General Steps
  • Download the .iso image for Resident Evil 2 Sourcenext (you can find this online pretty easily). You will need software to mount the .iso image, I used FuseISO.

  • Follow the steps outlined in this guide. Make sure you replaced the original exe with the 1.1.0 patch! Also, don't delete the original .iso, you will need it later.

Linux-specific Steps
  • Just running the .exe under Wine should work, right? Nope. To fix this, run winecfg, navigate to Libraries, and add ddraw.dll as an override, like this. Click yes to any warnings, then click Apply and OK. I would recommend doing this in a wine prefix, as I don't know if doing this on the general wine configuration could result in other compatibility errors. You can use Lutris to easily make a wine prefix specifically for RE2, but I won't cover that in this guide.

  • Now it boots, and you should get this game config screen. Before clicking OK, go to the root of the original mounted .iso (not the data folder), and open CD-KEY.txt. Copy that key and paste it in the game config screen under Misc > Install (you can also open config.ini and paste it there). You need to add the installation key, for some reason this error only occurred to me on Linux. Also, if at any point your bio2.exe seems to hang upon booting again, delete the config.ini file and open the exe again, as the installation key is invalid. (this shouldn't occur if you followed the instructions correctly)

  • Now the game boots! But there are a few mods we can use to improve the experience.

Recommended Mods

The mods I used were:

Follow the instructions of the respective mods. Some of the mods have differing naming schemes for folders (like instead of Pl1 a folder might be named PL1). I would recommended renaming all relevant folders to the same found in the original .iso, just in case they conflict. Check subfolders as well so that the names overwrite the original files.

Specifically for Linux, after installing these mods, you will have a directory similar to this. See libwebp.dll and dsound.dll? Run winecfg and go to Libraries and add them as overrides, just like you did with ddraw.dll. The game should now look nice and crispy with AI-upscaled backgrounds.

Also, for some reason, the .iso needs to be mounted any time you want the game to run. This wasn't the case on Windows. The exe can be on a separate drive or wherever you want, the .iso just needs to be mounted, otherwise you will get a DVD load error.

Audio stutter for a split second every few min?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Mai 2024 - 22:37

I decided to install Pipewire and uninstall pulseaudio in the process and it did not go well. No audio devices would be detected so I uninstalled Pipewire and reinstalled pulseaudio. The audio is back but no matter if it's a YouTube video or game, the audio will loop back to what happened about a second or two ago. This seems to happen once every 5 minutes. How do I fix this? I tried connecting to a different port on my motherboard and issue persists.

I am on the latest version of Linux Mint with Kernel 5.15.0-105 generic. The tutorial I followed was from lowtechlinux. Unfortunately I'm dumb and didn't do timeshift before making this change.

Need help with Terraria on EndeavourOS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Mai 2024 - 22:14

I dont have access to my PC so I'm using my laptop from the past few days and since it has only 8gb RAM, I use xfce4 DE. However I did notice a weird thing regarding Terraria, with KDE terraria runs fine without having to select any compatilibity tool in steam and loads my savegame without any difficulties. Now when I switch to xfce4, I can no longer run the game unless I select a compatilbity tool (Proton Experimental in my case) and even then the game simply fails to locate my savegame and requires me to start a new game. So Can anyone Help me run Terraria on xfce4 while also being able to continue my game from where I left?
