A new Steam Client Update from May 27, 2026 has been released for both Linux and the Steam Deck. Both updates bring numerous improvements to Steam Input, Steam Controller Firmware, and Remote Play - plus Linux-specific fixes.

Notably for Linux: the “Legacy Steam Runtime” is now an optional standalone download instead of being bundled with the Steam client. Additionally, firmware updates on systems without
libhidapi
installed are now fixed, along with a crash related to the Steam Controller on Linux.
