Race into Space, the computer version of the Liftoff! board game by Fritz Bronner, has now been released in version 2.0.

Race into Space 2.0: open-source strategy sim reaches milestone

The Race into Space development team is proud to announce version 2.0 of the classic open-source strategy simulation game. Version 2.0 includes major improvements, including the addition of a multiplayer mode, allowing two players to compete for the first manned lunar landing; an improved duration system for multi-day space missions; general quality-of-life updates; and higher quality music.

Additionally, dozens of bugs and historical inaccuracies have been resolved, including many dating back to the original MS-DOS release in 1993.

Race into Space 2.0 is available in source form, as binary packages for Debian and RPM-based Linux distributions, for macOS, and for Microsoft Windows: https://github.com/raceintospace/raceintospace#latest-release

About Race into Space:
Race Into Space is the computer version of the Liftoff! board game by Fritz Bronner, in which players compete as the United States and the Soviet Union to be the first country to land a human on the moon. It was developed by Strategic Visions and published by Interplay in disk-based game in 1993, and a CD-ROM in 1994.

The code was open-sourced in 2005, and a team of more than a dozen contributors have committed thousands of updates, bugfixes and improvements to keep the classic game alive on modern computers.
