Silica (Steam Game)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Mar 2024 - 4:14am

Not sure what is going on. It says it works on Protondb and game appears to be supported on Steam Deck, with some minor issues. Each time I run it on my PC it just hangs and freezes. Haven't been able to load into a game other than main menu.

  • Dist: Mint Linux
  • CPU: R9 7950X3D
  • GPU: RTX 4080 (non-Super)
  • RAM: 64GB DDR5

I have Wine and Steam installed. Drivers are latest release. By default, Steam is using Proton Experimental for compat.

Anyone got Star Trek Bridge Commander working on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Mar 2024 - 1:59am

Bit of an old game but there's a mod for it that makes it look more modern. So I figured I'd give it a try. But of course it's not on Steam so I got it on GoG. Now I believe I'll have to use Lutris.

Thought I'd stop by and ask if anyone has managed to get the game installed and playable. Thank you

Can't get MangoHud (flatpak) to work with Steam (flatpak)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Mar 2024 - 1:31am

I've installed MangoHud and Steam via flatpaks: bash $ flatpak list | grep -E '(MangoHud|Valve)' Valve Corporation com.valvesoftware.Steam 1.0.0.79 stable flathub system MangoHud org.freedesktop.Platform.VulkanLayer.MangoHud 0.7.1 23.08 flathub system

And I can run games with MANGOHUD=1 %command%, mangohud %command% and not get any errors / run the game, but I can't get MangoHud to work/show.

I've tried to allow the steam sandbox access to: xdg-config/MangoHud:ro but it still won't work. I've also copied the config into .var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.config/MangoHud/MangoHud.conf (just in case) but it still won't work.

The funny thing is that Heroic games work and when I press RightSift+F12, I can disable/enable the overlay on goverlay but no in Steam games. I've tried with a DXVK app (ESO) and Vulkan (Doom Eternal).

I also run Fedora Kinoite and would like to keep everything in flatpaks if possible.

Mangohud not working on Linux Mint 21

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Mar 2024 - 11:25pm

Hello. I switched to Linux recently and discovered the existence of Mangohud which you probably already know about. I tried to install it and use it in game but every time I launch a game with it, the game closes instantly. Whether on Steam or Heroic. Has anyone ever had a similar problem?

CS2 suddenly not working anymore for no reason?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Mar 2024 - 10:59pm

So, I'm a Linux newbie. Been using Fedora 39 on my dad's laptop and I've installed Steam to play CS2 last week. Game worked fine and ran with no need to configure anything, straight out of the Steam launcher. But for some reason 3 days ago, the game stopped working in any way whatsoever. When I click play, the game says it's running, but doesn't launch, then nothing happens and it's back to not running again after a few seconds. I've tried looking up countless solutions online to no avail, so here I am.

Hardware specs:

CPU Intel 8565U

GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Mesa)

16gb RAM

Dragon's Dogma 2 sometimes has okay FPS and sometimes it's absolute garbage (same graphics settings, same location. Depends on boot)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Mar 2024 - 10:54pm

Okay, not sure how to exactly explain this in detail, but I'll try. I bought Dragon's Dogma 2 and I've been driving myself crazy trying to get it to work properly. I am trying to get the game to run at 1080p with a stable 30FPS.

Sometimes, it does just fine. Other times, the frame rate is half of that, or even worse. And the weird thing? It seems to be decided how the game is going to run each time it starts up. I used MangoHUD to monitor things, and if the game decides that it wants to run well, then my GPU will be nearly 100% utilisation, which makes sense.

However, when the game decides that it wants to run like absolute garbage, the game does not use anywhere NEAR my PC's maximum capabilities. (I'm talking like, 70% GPU usage and 30% CPU usage at MAXIMUM)

Again, the weirdest thing is that which of these two "modes" it decides on is completely randomly decided each time I start the game.

I have tried different Proton versions, I have tried both X11 and Wayland. I have tried every single launch command listed on ProtonDB that would apply to AMD GPU + Intel CPU hardware. I have tried using corectrl to try to force the game to use as much of my PC as possible. Nothing seems to work. Like I said, it appears to randomly decide if it is going to use my PC to its full potential or not on each game boot.

My PC Specs are as follows:

OS: openSUSW Tumbleweed

Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma 6

GPU: RX 6600

CPU: i7-11700 @ 4.90 GHz

RAM: 16GB

Storage type game is installed on: Internal SSD

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much.

New Amd GPU keeps crashing (RX 7900XT)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Mar 2024 - 10:37pm

New GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 7900XT

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D

RAM: Cosair Vengance 32gb 3600MHz DDR4 Ram ( they are being run at 3200MHz as per recommended by motherboard manufacturer)

Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-plus Wi-Fi I

PSU: NZXT C1000 PSU (2022) - PA-0G1BB-US - 1000 Watt PSU - 80+ Gold Certified - Fully Modular

OS: Arch Linux

Display Resolution: 2160 x 1440

Well, I tried to upgrade my old GPU (AMD RX 6600XT) this past Friday (03/22/2024). I plug it in, and it works until I start any game and the game crashes in like 2 minutes (The screen freezes and nothing works and the only way to recover is to restart the entire system).

What I did to troubleshoot: I reinstalled mesa, vulkan-radeon and xf86-video-amdgpu using pacman. I thought the issue was my old PSU (750 watts) so I order a new one (the one listed above), I also consider RAM could be an issue and order a new one too (current one listed above) I plug both in and the GPU still crashes. I think the GPU is the issue, so I call up Amazon, and they send me a replacement GPU. The replacement arrived today, I plug it in and the same issue occurs. 2 minute crashes in any game. I don't know what the issue is, as my old card still works perfectly with all the same parts, but these are 2 new graphics cards that just keep freezing.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Is there any kind of driver level resolution scaling for Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Mar 2024 - 8:51pm

I'm relatively new to Linux but I want to Learn my way through it. I pretty much only game and coming from windows having the driver level resolution upscaling in the adrenaline software was a very nice feature. I don't know if there is any applications or something that is a replacement for adrenaline. And I have tried core control but I didn't understand how to set it up.

I'm on pop os 22.04 os. Any information will be useful.

Game not utilizing gpu?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Mar 2024 - 8:31pm

On a higly populated area in RuneScape my GPU usage is at ~50% , the gpu fan speed is at 0% and the game is a lagging too much for it to be playable. But on a low populated area my GPU usage is at 100% and fans work normally and the game is as smooth as ever. Anyone has an idea why it works like this? I mean the rather odd utilization of the GPU.

Running NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti, 550.54.14 driver.

Why some games feel slow?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Mar 2024 - 8:15pm

I have a really good pc (pop_os, ryzen 5 4650 pro, rx6600, 16gb), but some games just feel slow and choppy. And that even happens with native games. Cs2 runs at 100-120 fps and feels like i'm playing on 40fps. Postal 2 is also native and i have about 140 fps but it feels like 30. Is it problem in my hardware or?
