GTA SA Lag on wine

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 1:08pm

I’m using an old pc but I once installed gta sa through a deb package downloaded online. Now I tried to install gta sa by myself with the game files and wine. It is very laggy and unplayable now. It shows the following error when it lags while playing:

0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 02AE300 is being unloaded while mapped. 0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 0291A8E0 is being unloaded while mapped. 0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 02AE300 is being unloaded while mapped. 0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 0291A8E0 is being unloaded while mapped. …

The lag is gone along with the error when I reduce resolution to 800x600 (or any other lower resolution).

There is no lag when I run it without mods but it’s annoying to play the a game stuck in the corner of my screen. So I need widescreen fix. I also tried SilentPatch. Nothing helps.

Heroic won't launch some of my games today

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 12:24pm

First: It seems like there was a new Heroic version today, so *something* is obviously different.

These are games from the Epic store (freebies).

I've been playing Sable lately, and today when I tried to launch it in Heroic, it doesn't start properly (Launching -> Playing -> Play now). The log doesn't provide much information, and as far as I can see, there is no 'verbose' option for the log.

I tried to download and run another game (Earthlock), but the result is the same.

I use the flatpak version, but I doubt that makes any difference.

I've tried almost everything but i guess linux isn't my thing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 10:58am

It's been a couple of months since i switched to linux, and while i do think it's pretty cool, i just can't put up with how hot my laptop get when playing games

I've tried rog control panel, tlp, corectrl, autocpufreq, but no matter what i did, my laptop is still WAAAY hotter than when i use windows to the point that im actually concerned about my rog laptop

On linux, Deep Rock Galactic went up to 98° celsius while on windoes it only reached the low 70s

Another example is how ultrakill on linux increases the temp to around 75 degrees while on windows, it still stays at around 50 degrees

For native game, TF2 made the temp around 80 or so degrees while on windows it's only around 50

Everything else is good and if it hadn't been for this one problem i would've switched by now, but for right now i think I'll stick to debloating my windows as much as possible

If you guys got any advice please post it here

I got a: Asus rog zephyrus g14 2022, 42GB ram, 1TB nvme drive, Ryzen 9 6900HS, Radeon rx 6700s

And i use fedora (i use arch as well but not my daily drive)

Mint 21.3 Edge - 4090 Wattage issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 4:45am

Afternoon everyone!

I'm currently using a Nvidia 4090 FE and no matter the game it doesn't seem to go past 350w.
On windows it would constantly be at 450w with better performance.
I have swapped it to maximum performance with x-server settings.
I have also tried downloading greenwithenvy and it shows default wattage of 450.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks

Made the switch, but I may be an idiot.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 3:21am

Installed Nobara on my spare desktop (Ryzen 3 3600x? RTX 1070, 16 gigs of RAM). My plan was to use my Linux machine as my daily driver (web, email, school etc) and use my main desktop as a gaming PC.

I figured I could install Steam on my Linux box and just stream my games through steam over my home network using remote play. That way the games are running on my gaming rig (Ryzen 5 5600/3060 TI, 32 gigs RAM) and I don't actually need to log into it expect for routine maintenance, updates etc.

This does not work, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about how either Linux or steam remote play work to understand why, dispite some Google Fu over the last week or so.

What happens is I click stream in Steam my Linux machine and the game then opens on my Win PC but is not displayed on the Linux PC.

I've tried a few different remote desktop app as a work around but the lantacy is sub par, definitely not playable.

TLDR: remote play from win -> Linux not working. Remote desktop not working well enough. Network over Ethernet (1gig unmanaged switch).

I'm wondering if remote play is even possible across platform? If so what is it likely I'm missing?

Any help or advice is appreciated. I've got a bit of IT experience but it's all Win based and I feel like my boomer grandmother trying to figure out how to recharge my Internet and download the WiFi.

Any advice for getting Remnant 2 to run on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 3:08am

I am trying to play Remnant 2 on Nobara Linux. I am new to Linux and trying to learn how to use it but still not very knowledgeable so I may just be missing something simple. Whenever I open the game its very laggy at around 15-20fps in just the menus and whenever I try to load into my world with my character it freezes and crashes. I have tried using proton 7, proton 8, Proton Experimental, and Proton GE. When I use proton ge it gives me an error and tells me my system doesn’t support DX12 but the others let me open the game. Not sure what else to do? I tried using a couple different commands for the startup options that I found online but none of them worked. I believe my system is fully updated, but I’m still new to Linux and it confuses me quite a bit so I’m not 100% sure lol. I have a ryzen 7 7700x, 32gb ram, and a 3060ti. Not sure what else to do as my knowledge of Linux is still very limited

Downloads from gog

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 2:17am

I wanted to try out gog through lutris and oh my lord… what is up with the download speed? Cyberpunk 2077 estimates a download of 15 hours? Is this normal? Maybe I’m just impatient but I can do the same download on Steam in under an hour.

Elden Ring 1.10] Performance issues on Low Preset

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 Apr 2024 - 2:17am

I'm playing Elden Ring Ver 1.10 on Low 720p on a RTX 3070 on Low and I'm using a mod that should unlock the FPS to more than 60fps.

Problem is I still get around 60 FPS. I know the mod works because previously my game was capped at 60 fps and would go no further than 61 before the title menu but now it does go beyond 61 but no more than 63.

I've seen people get better performance on 1080p High from the same card.

It seems I'm losing performance and at least on low 720p, I should be getting way better performance.

I've tried a bunch of things from this website including playing around with the environmental variables in Lutris:

https://linux-gaming.kwindu.eu/index.php?title=Main_Page#Performance

I've also tried a bunch of random things from linux_gaming reddit.

I've tried different Wine/Wine-GE versions which made the biggest change but only negatively.

I've taken out any other mods off to test whether they were interfering and it made no difference.

Any help or ideas on how to improve performance would be appreciated. Thank you.
