GTAV on Heroic Games Launcher doesn't work

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 11:09pm

Hi, I have Grand Theft Auto V on my Epic Games account and I've already managed to install it through Lutris, it's running nice and smooth, but I have one small issue that is completely annoying me. Self Radio stops working after a few songs have played. I thought I could maybe fix that by switching to Heroic Games Launcher since I'm already familiar with it by playing other games. I've installed GTA with no hassle but Rockstar Launcher can't find the game when I try and search for it in the options. GTA is installed on another drive, and the Heroic GTA prefix is on my root drive. I thought I could maybe make a symbolic link in the prefix but that did not work. When I close Rockstar and try to run GTA again, Rockstar tells me that it can't connect to Rockstar online services. I'm on Gentoo and using Proton GE 9.2. Is there a way to fix this issue or perhaps is there another fix to get the self radio working?

Freelancer HD on Nobara

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 10:39pm

I am so happy. I just discovered I can play Freelancer with HD mod for free and I got it working on Nobara 39. It is still pretty janky being it was a game from 2003 but I love this game.

I just can't begin to describe how excited I am to play some freelancer again after all this time.

That is all

How to build 32bit version of OBS VKCapture plugin

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 10:22pm

When I used Arch Linux before, I could use AUR to get both 64 and 32bit versions easily. Now I'm on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and I have to manually compile it. I compiled VKCapture following the instructions, but it didn't install 32bit version of the plugin. I went to AUR to compare PKGBuild files, they are both the same for 32bit and 64bit. Am I maybe doing something wrong? If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Wine vs QEMU W10/W11, which is better for gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 10:20pm

Pound for pound, FPS for FPS, assuming ideal optimization and configuration alongside high-end hardware, which is better? I have had great experiences with both, but I am torn on whether I should run games using Wine or just boot up a QEMU running W10 and run them there. They both seem to be as stable and provide as much FPS as one another. Everybody has their opinions, but is there an objectively better option?

Overwatch 2 and Linux: random crashes

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 8:36pm

Anyone else playing OW2 on Linux has noticed issues recently?

The game has been running great but about a month ago or so it started to crash randomly. Sometimes it's just the game crashing, sometimes it crashes along with Steam. I experienced other bugs too, such as the camera staying looking up and my mouse sense getting insanely high, but that seems to be fixed now.

I thought it was my PC being not good (it is not good and I should get a new GPU), but other games, such as Apex Legends, Anno 1800 or Skyrim run fine. I also tried playing OW2 on Windows and, besides the usual performance issues that I do not get on Linux, the game didn't crash once. I used mangohud to check the loads and, while the CPU load is very low, the GPU load stays over 90% all the time between 70-79ºC.

My specs are in pics and I use Proton GE 9.2, running from Steam.

How do I install GTA San Andreas in Lutris or Steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 7:20pm

I have been trying to install GTA San Andreas for the past hour or so.

I tried doing it in Lutris first with manually installing it later trying to install it via a script I found in Lutris's website. Both did install it but the game does not open, when I click play, it says loading on the play button then returns back to play, I double checked whether I have the correct .exe selected to run and surely I did.

Later I tried adding the installation as a non-steam game in steam and try to run it with proton, but no avail, it does the same thing, even with Proton enabled and I tried Proton Experimental till Proton 4.x.x. The game did not run. :(

My system's specifications if someone needs them are-

CPU- Intel Core i7 9750H
GPU- Intel UHD630/Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650
RAM- 16GB Crucial something
SSD- 512GB Micron NVME SSD
OS- Arch Linux, DE- KDE, Nvidia Drivers- Proprietary 500 something (Latest).

Other games work via Proton, such as BeamNG.drive and Metro Last Light.

Also emulators work, RPCS3 and PCSX2 both work flawlessly.

Native games such as Minecraft works too.

All use the dedicated GTX1650, so I don't think there is something wrong with the drivers.

Almost every game crashes on newly built PC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 7:18pm

GPU: ASUS TUF RX 7900XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D

RAM: Cosair Vengance 2x16GB 6000MHz DDR5 Ram

Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi

PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850 W

OS: Linux Mint

Display Resolution: 3440 x 1440

So, basically the title. I tried following games on Steam: BattleBit Remastered, Splitgate, DayZ, Rocket League, AOE II, Among Us. The latter two are running.

It's my first Linux experience and I'm quite a noob when it comes to fixing stuff on that system. But I tried reinstalling, and running other versions of proton.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Can't Disabled DXVK

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 5:59pm

My GPU is too old to support Vulkan, so whenever the game is run, it comes up with a DirectX error and exits. So I wanted to disable DVXK, but the option is greyed out and stuck on enabled.

Unable to locate .dot files (Wine)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 5:14pm

I’m a windows user learning Linux on the steam deck (cliché i know)

I’m modding Fallout 3, I’m unable to locate my dot files. I’ve already ran Protontricks and enabled “show dot files”. I’m still unable to see the .steam file to locate the games main dictionary. any help would be great. I’ve included a photo to show the wine and linux directory side by side.

So, is it really worth the change to Linux if my main use for my laptop is gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 2:14pm

I bought this Dell G15 last year, it came with Ubuntu, cause it was the cheaper version and it felt great, but I still had this mentality that gaming is on windows, Linux and Mac are terrible for it.

The thing is I've found out recently that gaming on Linux has been waaaaay different for several years now, and I miss how fluid, beautiful and snappy Ubuntu were compared to W11. W11 is great, beautiful, games just work fine without much meddling, but it feels clunky, and weird compared to when I was using Ubuntu before changing to W11. W11 is not even running using my screen full refresh rate capacity, even though I set it to 120hz.

I partake on the 7 Seas version of games cause I don't have the money to buy a month's worth of groceries on a single game (yeah, they're that expensive around here in Brasil). That said, does Fitgirl repacks work fine on Linux? Can I take my saves from like Super Mario Galaxy 2 (downloaded from a emulation site) and Kingdom Hearts 3 ReMind (Fitgirl) to Linux, or will I have to play those games ALL OVER AGAIN?

Can I take my saves from all of my SNES games to Linux? Mario World, MegaMan X, DKC 1/2, Chrono Trigger, Metroid and so on, I don't want to start them all over again.

Will my saves from Steam games be ported to Linux as well? I have DMC5, Sekiro and Amnesia there, will I need to play them again?

I'm sorry if this seems like a nuub take, it's because it is hehehe. I have no clue how to take my save files for the 7 Seas and emulated games, I just can't find the file where they're stored, I imagine Steam will be fine cause it's on their cloud I think, but the rest of the games I'm at a loss here.

I really wanted to go back to Linux, even though I'll have some trouble playing Kingdom Hearts games on Linux (my favorite franchise), already asked in KH sub, but I just don't want to remain on W11 anymore and I hate W10, and W7 is no more so. I feel Linux gives us much more freedom, and just like I can't stand iOS and I love Android (even though being disappointed with it on a few things), Windows started to annoy the hell out of me.

I already use Ubuntu on an old Dell Laptop I have and love it.

I forgot to mention the config of my laptop, I don't know if it's relevant, they are: - NVidia 3050 6GB VRAM (I think?) - Intel i5 13000H (or something like that) - 16GB RAM

Helldivers 2 stutter on KDE Wayland but not on GNOME Wayland (Nvidia)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31 Mar 2024 - 12:59pm

Hi,

I've installed Arch yesterday with EndeavourOS and Gnome desktop. Then I've installed KDE Plasma to try both. While testing Helldivers 2, I'm having 90fps but it feel like playing at lower fps on KDE Wayland. Then I tried on gnome Wayland and it was smooth like on Windows. I've read that KDE 6 is a little buggy so I will try to install the previous version to test it.

I know that between Wayland and Nvidia is not the great love (until the new driver I hope) and it's better to stick with X11 for now but I'm wondering why Gnome don't have this issue.
