How to record gameplay in Gnome?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. April 2024 - 06:22

I run Kerbal Space Program in Gnome on a latop with Intel Iris Xe graphics. I've found this setup to be sufficien for what I do.

I want to record the screen + audio for gameplay, but Gnome's built-in screencast software doesn't record audio. OBS Studio makes the laptop lag unbearably. I've tried a few other Gnome extensions and nothing seems to actually work properly.

Anyone else doing this? What software do you use?

Any Roblox update?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. April 2024 - 06:16

So I know wine was blocked from working on Roblox some time ago, but I remember there being mentions of a native linux port being worked on and stuff like that and I'm just wondering if there's been any progress, all the threads I see are full of people saying "why would you play roblox" this is linux, the whole point is to use whatever software you want so get off people's ass, my 8 year old nephew likes it and I'm not gonna explain to him the intricacies of wine and why it had to be blocked and why I'm not supporting a certain company that did the blocking.

Linux and proton?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. April 2024 - 06:08

I have only dabbled with Linux on my steam deck when it comes to gaming and I was wondering: if I installed Ubuntu or Mint on my PC does steam use proton in the same way and as efficiently as on a steam deck? Do I just change see option to make windows games run through proton?

How to fix Batman Arkham Origins cinematic cut-scenes stuttering?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. April 2024 - 04:39

I'm running a GOG version of Batman Arkham Origins on Debian (stable) using Proton Experimental. Game is running fine excepting the 1st Killer Croc fight where there were a lot of audio glitches & sometimes Killer Croc model disappeared.

All the cinematic cut-scenes are stuttering very badly with audio screeching. Any idea how to fix this?

System:

GPU: GTX 1650 (Mobile)

CPU: Ryzen 5 3550h

OS: Debian (stable)

GPU Driver: Nvidia Proprietary (Optimus turned off)

Gpu and Cpu randomly having low usage causing stutter Nvidia

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. April 2024 - 03:04

When playing Alan Wake 2 my gpu and cpu usage randomly drops really low causing bad stutter. I have checked other people with the same specs as me and none of them get stutter like me at the same graphic settings. This only happens to me in Alan Wake 2. I have tried changing proton versions and trying wine ge. I also tried changing the gpu to prefer maximum performance that didn't help either. I am using Heroic Games Launcher. I have tried Proton GE 9-2 , 8-27 , Proton Experimental , Wine GE 8-22 and 8-26. My cpu and gpu isn't overheating either please help.

My specs are:

Ryzen 5600X

3060TI 8GB Vram

16GB of Dual channel 3600MHz ram

Arch Linux

KDE X11

Actually force gamescope to capture the mouse?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. April 2024 - 02:23

Is there no way to actually force the mouse to not leave the game? I have tried this with multiple games over the last year, it is impossible to capture the mouse.

Atm I am trying to play helldivers 2 and I need gamescope as without it I get a black screen.

I use a multi monitor setup, my second screen is on the left. Using KDE Plasma 5.

This is my launch option:

gamescope -w 3840 -h 2160 -W 3840 -H 2160 -r 120 -b -e --force-windows-fullscreen --adaptive-sync --force-grab-cursor %command%

You would expect "--force-grab-cursor" to provide that feature, but it never has worked for me. I have tried the same command with fullscreen instead of borderless, with the same result.

PS4 controller USB issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. April 2024 - 01:10

Trying to play Elden Ring and it's brought back my controller issues. I played Rocket League before and frequently disconnected by the loose USB cable, but plugging it back in would instantly connect. After messaging around with Steam controller settings I managed to get my PS4 controller working in Elden Ring, however if I disconnect once it will no longer work after plugging it back in.

I don't have bluetooth on my PC. I've gone through many USB cables trying to find one that will just plug in with stability but it seems just a bad way of playing - even resting the controller on the desk will disconnect.

Should I just find a different controller type? Has anyone faced these issues? Super frustrating.

How to run Civilization 6 on Linux Mint 21.3?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 23:51

Hey! Just this week I've switched to Linux from Windows on my old Dell XPS 13 from 2018. As the title says I chose Linux Mint as my first distro. Up to this point I had no problems with the distro (except maybe with the finger print reader but that's a different story) until now when I tried running Civ 6 from Steam. The game loads to the main menu smoothly but whenever I try to get into a game it always does the same:

  1. I reach the "Loading, please wait" screen.
  2. The audio crackles a bit.
  3. I see my leader's screen and the narrator starts reading the text.
  4. The audio suddenly crackles a lot and then goes smoothly again.
  5. The audio crackles a lot again and the game just turns off.

Also in the background Steam sometimes minimizes and opens up again causing the game to lose focus. Things that I've tried to fix this issue:

  • Enable "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and run the game either under Proton Experimental, Proton 8.0-5, Proton 7.0-6, Proton 6.3-8, Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (Scout).
  • Run the game at the worst possible graphics settings (since I run an integrated graphics cards).
  • Enter these Launch Options:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.so.6 eval $( echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/Base/Binaries/Win64Steam/CivilizationVI'/" )

Nothing seems to have helped. Keep in mind the game, although sometimes lagged, ran on Windows so I don't think it's my specs. What could be done about this? Thanks in advance!

KDE panel on dota 2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 23:31

Hey,

is it possible to get full screen when getting back from alt+tab in dota2? You can see the panel on my screenshot. It won't go back until I do alt+F3 and then press fullscreen button. Plasma 6 on Arch.

Wayland/KDE 6 - VRR fluctuating does not match game framerate

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 23:12

Hi

I have run into an issue with VRR on KDE 6.0.3 (more system specs below) where the current refresh rate does not follow the frame rate of the game.

Below are two examples of the current refresh rate output by my AW3423DWF OSD whilst running Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (locked at 60 FPS)

Notice the Current refresh rate value on the monitor OSD. On Windows, the current refresh rate stays between 59-61Hz which matches the game's framerate. On KDE Plasma, it jumps from 59Hz all the way to 165Hz (the max refresh rate of my monitor). This causes two issues which are not easy to see through a phone recording:

  • Gamma flicker (very noticable on an OLED panel). Although this is not an issue exclusive to Linux, it is much more noticable on my Arch install with the refresh rate fluctuating this much
  • Perceived smoothness. On Windows the game feels much smoother with the refresh rate more closely matching the game's framerate

I have tried other games (in specific, Cyberpunk 2077 and World of Warcraft: Dragonflight) and the issue persists in those as well. However it does not persist in vrrtest using config target FPS: 59 and fluctuating: true [max: 61, speed: 10]

I'm at a loss on what could be causing this... Any advice for further troubleshooting?

Considering getting a VR headset for use on Linux; what should I get?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 23:04

Hey fellow Linux gamers,

I've been looking into getting a VR headset (which I would be of course using with my Linux gaming system), but don't want to spend a whole lot of money (I've never used VR before and this is partly me wanting to try it out and see if I even like it, so my budget is about $250, though I could stretch that to about $350 if I have to), and after doing a fair amount of my own research, it seems to me like the best options are as follows:

  1. Buy a cheaper stand-alone headset (likely a Quest 2), and then have to do a lot of work to get it working with my computer (apparently there's something called ALVR for this, but also doesn't work very well/requires a lot of setup if you aren't running Arch?) or else hack/jailbreak it to be able to load games from err... alternative sources. Also the downside here of having to deal with some large amount of F*cebook/M*ta bullshit, which I'd like to avoid for the same reasons I use Linux for gaming.
  2. Buy an old Oculus Rift S off of Ebay (quick searching shows they usually go for about $100 to $200, depending on condition), which apparently has a decent Linux native driver, but is missing some features (such as controller position tracking).
  3. Spend a bit more money on an HTC Vive or Vive Pro from Ebay (looks to me like I might be able to get one in decent condition in the $250 to $350 range with a little luck), which sounds from my research like it has better Linux support/better features, but is it better enough to be worth the extra money?

Any thoughts on which of these options is best, if there's any other decent options within my budget, or if I'd just be wasting my money trying to use VR on Linux?

[CIV VI] Well, this is amazing and ridiculous at the same time

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 22:29

Disclaimer: Potentially broken english ahead as this is not my native language, sorry for all the possibly nonsense sentences.

This is like my 21th (and I hope the last) attempt to make the switch to linux and everytime I've learned and tested something different. After experimenting with different distros, DEs and testing performance in general I'm staying in Linux Mint for a while.

After getting everything I need for work there's the time for gaming, and if there's a game that I need no matter what that's Civilization VI, but I don't just need it to run, but I also keep a video on Picture and Picture at the same time, I do that on windows and I wanted to do that on linux also.

So... the thing is, if I play the native version I get crashes, can't get borderless window mode, the mods fail, if I touch the PiP video the game minimizes, the game don't even recognize my GPU... horrible.

But if I install the windows version everything works just as if I were playing on windows; borderless window mode, great GPU ID, excellent performance (I feel like it runs even better than on windows, but don't have the data to confirm).

Sometimes I wonder how can proton works so well and the native port so bad at the same time.

BTW: Proton FTW, every game I've tested so far works just fine (with the exception of Bully, but I hope there's a fix).

Titanfall 2 wont launch

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 22:10

Ever since switching my gaming computer to linux, I've been having a lot of trouble trying to get titanfall 2 running. For some reason when I start it through steam, the launch button says it's running for about 5 seconds, then it stops. I'm on GE-proton9-2.

I don't know how to solve this error

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 21:34

I just changed from Windows to Fedora, I already installed the Nvidia drivers and most of the games work fine for me, but the NFS Unbound that I usually play with my friends, whenever I try to play it, it gives me this error. I already tried to change the Proton version but I keep going. Without finding a solution, did anyone experience the same thing?
