Is memtest_vulkan safe?
I've been looking at overclocking my VRAM and came across threads of people recommending memtest_vulkan to test the performance and stability.
https://github.com/GpuZelenograd/memtest_vulkan
It seems to have a Linux build too. Has anyone tried it? Is it safe to use, not just from a hardware standpoint (it doesn't just fry the GPU) but also from a malware standpoint? Anyone maybe even check out the source code?
I see the dev also worked on https://github.com/ihaque/memtestCL which seemed popular back over a decade ago.

Lutris 0.5.20 Linux Game Manager Brings New Features, Wine Wayland Option
Proton 10 wins Windows LTSC on Far Cry Primal (Cachys OS - Nvidia)
Best result: Proton 10 Lutris
Worst result: Proton-Cachy Steam
Resolution: 1440x900
Graphics: overhigh custom
OC: CachyOS Wayland (KDE)
Windows 11 LTSC IoT Enterprise 24H2
Launchers: Steam, Lutris, Standalone (Windows)
cpu: ryzen 5600x
gpu: rtx 3050 8 gb (kfa2 oc)
ram: 28 gb (2400 hz)
filesystems: btrfs (sata ssd - cachyos), ntfs (nvme ssd - windows), ntfs (hard drive - game files)
***
To eliminate the impact of OBS on FPS, it was launched only after the test was fully completed.
Each test was run 4-5 times; since the results were almost identical with a difference of 1-2 frames, the best result was taken for each test.

Skyrim modding issue due to some wine/proton bug? How to fix?
Does anyone have an idea what this could be?
MO2 installed with NaK, everything was fine, but changing some settings makes DynDOLOD and TexGen spaz out and crash.
If i don't try to open another window by adding the billboard, it can run, but i'd like that option.
What's the problem here? Why is it doing that?

World of Warcraft fedora
Hello all,
Linux newbie here !
I was wondering if someone here could answer this question I have. I recently tried fedora on my pc and everything was working great until I tried to play world of Warcraft using steam/proton. For some reason the fps just dropped to avg 20-30 fps. I tried lutris, faugus , different proton flavors etc but all had the somewhat same effect perhaps a small fps change here and there but not really anything of note.
Also tried all different kinds of steam launch options found on Reddit/forums but to no effect.
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=100
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:8
Gamescope
DXVK_ASYNC=1
Once I reinstalled Linux mint my fps went straight to 165 fps. So I have been wondering what might have caused the issue of my low fps on fedora ? Could it have been wayland ?

I got tired of 2004-era boot menus, so I built a modern, fluid UEFI bootloader from scratch in Rust.
This is a screenshot of the UI taken inside a QEMU environment.
Hey everyone! Like a lot of you, I dual-boot Windows and Linux. But I recently got incredibly frustrated with how stiff, outdated, and difficult to theme standard bootloaders like rEFInd and GRUB feel. I wanted something that looked like it actually belonged in 2026.
So, I built MBL (Modern BootLoader).
It is a brand new, fully functional UEFI bootloader written entirely in Rust.
✨ The Tech Specs:
- Built on the uefi-rs framework in a pure no_std environment.
- Incredibly lightweight (the compiled .efi payload is only ~600KB).
- Dynamically parses your EFI System Partition to auto-detect Windows and Linux boot entries.
- Custom, ground-up UI rendering directly to the GOP framebuffer (no OS-level graphical frameworks).
🚀 Looking for Beta Testers! I just published the v0.1.0-beta.1 release on GitHub. I've got it running flawlessly on bare-metal hardware and QEMU, but I need people to help me test it across different motherboards!
- GitHub Repo & Release: https://github.com/Z3taZer0/MBL--ModernBootLoader-/releases/tag/v0.1.0-beta.1
- I included PowerShell scripts (deploy_internal.ps1 and deploy_usb.ps1) so you can test it safely from a USB drive without touching your internal disk.
🛠️ What's Next: Since it's a beta, I'm still actively building out features. Next on the roadmap:
- Writing a no_std image decoder to render custom OS icons next to the text entries.
- Full custom theme support.
- Native Secure Boot integration (right now, you just have to manually sign it with your own MOK keys, or disable Secure Boot to test it).
Let me know what you think, and if you find any bugs, please drop an issue on the GitHub!

Help me get started
Hey guys, really hope I can get a little push here.
ive got a Lenovo Legion 7i with an RTX 4080 and two SSDs. I’m really want to go linux. thinking about installing Linux on the second SSD and dual-booting so I can keep Windows around in case I need it for specific apps, or until I just get experienced enough to delete windows completely.
the goals: I would like
Maximum performance
No spyware / minimal telemetry
Stable drivers
Good NVIDIA support
Gaming compatibility (Steam/Proton)
I play alot of steam lol, also with some emulators..
I’ve been looking at:
Pop!_OS
Ubuntu
and
Fedora
I’d prefer to ditch Windows entirely, but I’m worried about losing access to certain Windows only programs. For those who’ve made the jump on similar hardware:
Is dual boot on a second SSD the best route?
Which distro would you recommend?
Something clean, I guess a similar way it operates to windows just way less heavy.
I’ve been wanting to switch for a while and just keep putting it off. Looking for real world advice from people running Linux full-time on similar setups..
Thanks for the time. I really appreciate it. Whatever you guys comment I'm going to have it installed this afternoon

Rockstar Launcher
I have recently made the change from windows to Pop!_OS as I am new to the linux landscape and am trying to get all my usual games installed.
The one I am having the most issue is Red Dead Redemption II, specifically trying to get the rockstar launcher to load.
I have followed the usual steps on most tutorials regarding loading the launcher through steam, however when I load the launcher it only loads the Scan for installations pop up as seen in photo attached, if any help can be provided it would be greatly appreciated as I have repeated all the steps with a fresh download of the .exe file of the rockstar launcher everytime.
Many thanks
I also do not know what the white rockstar popup is so if anyone could advise, would also be appreciated

Fix discord rich presence details in Vesktop on Arch
Hey yall I have trouble figuring out how to fix discord rich presence on my updated arch linux system. While Vesktop (the git version installed via the aur) does detect the games i'm currently playing (Image 1) it does not show details of whats happening ingame (Example in Image 2). Now my question is if fixing this is even possible on Linux? Has anyone of you successfully fixed this or is it just a limitation from games running via proton?

Do I need to re-download GE-Proton for Lutris if I already have it via ProtonPlus for Steam?
Hi everyone,
I'm using ProtonPlus to manage my GE-Proton versions. I've already downloaded the latest GE-Proton for Steam, and I noticed that when I check the "Wine version" settings in Lutris, this version already appears in the list.
My question is: Do I need to go back into ProtonPlus and specifically download GE-Proton under the "Lutris" tab as well? I’m trying to save disk space and don't want to have two identical copies of the same GE-Proton version. Since Lutris already "sees" the Steam version, is it safe to just use that one, or does Lutris require its own specific installation for compatibility?
Thanks in advance!

Stability issues when playing games
Hey guys,
my PC has been running fine since the beginning last year, in August I upgraded my 6800xt to a 9070xt, and it has been running stable since then. Now my PC randomly crashes in game, the screen freezes, and I have to hard reset the PC. I have looked at the logs and found the error message: 0000:03:00.0: amdgpu: ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout, signaled seq=54885, emitted seq=54887
and also: SMU driver if version not matched
I tried updating bazzite, used the testing branch and also tried cashy OS all with the same errors. I tried updating the bios to the newest version, enabled rebar, enabling/disabling pbo (these were all things I read online that they could help) and I also ran a memtest86 without any errors.
Thanks in advance for any help

I need an AMD GPU
I have found this laptop that meets my requirements https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Gaming-Copilot-Laptop-WQXGA/dp/B0DZQHB8S5?th=1but when I saw that it had an NVIDIA GPU I remembered that people said that nvidia didn't work well with Linux, and also im quite of an amd lover lol. Is there any laptop on the same price range of this one with similar specs, but that has an AMD GPU?? thank you :)( I am going to use it for gaming, I just like portable things )
