How do I get rid of "remote desktop" popup?

22. April 2024 - 15:53

This pop up makes steam menu on steam big mode not open when I press the PS- button on my DualSense, which is beyond annoying as I'd like to use it to look at the clock when I'm playing away from PC on the bed.

I tried to get rid of it by both uninstalling gnome-remote-desktop and gnome-connections (as I don't need remote desktop functionality at all) but as you can see it didn't work.

I'm on gnome 46 and fedora 40, steam is the flatpak version

Why some companies didn't create native app on Steam Deck?

22. April 2024 - 15:17

Why not create native client/store compatible with Steam Deck, Always thought they hate with valve cut (30/25/20%)?

Arch Linux laptop rdp/SSH into windows PC Will it provide the same security than vfio

22. April 2024 - 08:26

I'm guessing it's possible but what I wanted to know would this proved the same/similar type of security that comes with virtual machines. If my laptop that I use everyday, streams into my personal pc I only use for gaming on windows.

I am unable to connect my Xbox controller to my PC.

22. April 2024 - 07:37

So i recently bought a Xbox x controller and have been trying to connect it to my PC running Debian 12 under KDE plasma. I have tried everything that i could find online but nothing seems to work.

I tried to pair it via Bluetooth by powering the controller on and the holding down the sync button. The light on my controller blinks fast also it shows up on my Blue-man but after trying to connect to it nothing happens. I have tried connecting it with a type c cable which works. I also have a 8BitDo controller which works with Bluetooth no issues. I tried reinstalling the Bluetooth drivers, then tried installing xpadneo as well as xpad but nothing works.

For my Bluetooth device i am using a TP-link UB500.

This is the log from my - systemctl status bluetooth

Valve Index?

22. April 2024 - 07:32

Hello, Everyone!

I have seen in a couple of places that the Valve Index is compatible with linux and even some videos testing a couple of games (the most recent one being probably 2 years old)...

However, I've seen a lot of threads and comments saying that VR in linux is generally buggy and unstable, I would like to see someone (if possible) sharing their full experience with an Index Valve using linux... Is it buggy only with SteamVR or is it buggy in general?

I have a HP Reverb G2 and use it with my windows partition in my dual booted system (Mint being my main partition for everything else), but that's the problem, I literally only have windows for VR because every other thing I've tried has ended up working in Mint (either old or new).

I was thinking of ditching windows forever and selling my HP Reverb because that's the thing, I literally only have windows for the VR and I really don't like the idea that much, so, I was wondering, is it worth it to buy an Index and play all my VR games there? Is it worth the investment so I would have a semi-stable performance? (I have a Gigabyte RX 5700 GPU and a Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, and 32GB of Ram).

I don't have a lot of games on VR and I play like every 2 weeks or so but I would like to see most of these games working without the game randomly crashing at the very least: Fallout 4, Skyrim, No man's sky, All In One Sports, Borderlands 2, Hellblade, Synth Riders, Rez Infinite, Half Life: Alyx...

Please, let me know.... Thanks!

Please stick to well known and maintained Linux Distributions.

22. April 2024 - 04:03

If you have to ask if a distribution can be trusted - it cannot be trusted. Simple as that. There has been a recent influx of these posts, and it is difficult to impossible to tell if they are malicious in nature. I'm sure vets will overlook / downvote these threads (I know I do) but the reality is that there are many easily manipulated users on here that will somehow walk into distributions like Nobara or Garuda expecting the level of stability and support Windows provides, and getting turned off by Linux as a whole.

This is almost reminiscent of a decade ago when there were a lot of "kids" picking up Kali and trying to use it as a daily driver without having any understanding of what Kali actually is. I am only creating this thread because such trends have had long term negative impacts on the community as a whole.

If you have no idea what you are doing there are lots of very good resources out there to learn Linux but picking up a "gamer distro" is not the option. My suggestion? Try a beginner friendly distribution like Mint, to get used to Linux as a whole. I only suggest Mint here because in my experience it seems to be the most inoffensive but fully featured distribution out there.

Nvidia drivers when dual booting

22. April 2024 - 03:37

Long story short... I dual boot Windows and Mint but I've started to get curious what actually happens with my GPU drivers (rtx 3080) - as I'm using one driver version on Windows, and another on Mint. This is gonna sound stupid, but couldn't that brick the GPU or cause issues with it because now there are 2 different drivers on the same GPU? Like, someone explain to me how that actually works.

Apex Legends VIA EA app

22. April 2024 - 03:23

Is there any chance to make it work outside the steam ver? Since the files are basically the same, but I just can't seem to make it work properly, when I open the game it just shows a black window, I tried via lutris/bottles with the same results on both.

PD: Do not tell me “just use the steam” pls is not the point of the post. 😭

Motherboard not letting you into your BIOS? Want to get in similar to how Winderps does it? Sys Admins hate this one trick!

22. April 2024 - 03:18

sudo systemctl reboot --firmware-setup

YOU'RE WELCOME.

I just had to help family from across the country get into their BIOS to turn on virtualisation for legit reasons... couldn't get in without this. Worked instantly on their, and even my own computer.

But what really blows me away is how low-key this knowledge is.

How popular is Bazzite in the Linux gaming community?

22. April 2024 - 03:14

I started using it today, and it's probably the easiest distro to use for gaming.

How do I change my keybinds on Undertale [Ubuntu] (Auto Hotkey Won't Work)

22. April 2024 - 02:27

I just recently installed Undertale, and it hurts to use the arrow keys. I would love to switch to WASD keybinds.
