XDefiant Play Test

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 19:57

Xdefiant has a play test this weekend. Has anyone been able to get it working? I can launch the game, but when I try to get into a match, the game closes.

I'm using bottles. Tried the latest wine-ge as well as proton-ge.

Arch (KDE) crashes when fullscreen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 19:48

hi yesterday I noticed that when I play games in fullscreen the PC freezes and I can't do anything other than forcefully restart it (I've tried to enter tty or disconnect from the session but nothing).

I thought it was a card driver problem (RX 6900 XT) so I tried to simulate the problem (elden ring fullscreen) with journalctl running.

Check the image for journalctl logs.

How i can fix this problem? Is a kwin bug?

Lackluster Gaming Performance (mainly stutter)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 19:14

Hi all, I've been working on setting up a fresh install of Kubuntu to dual boot with a Windows 10 install (specs included in image) to begin to transition to for use as my daily driver, but I've been struggling to get performance up on some games that I have no such issues with on Windows.

While I don't have issues with all games, the most common issues I do have are frame stutters and a weird sort of latency or delay in overall performance. For the most part, FPS as per the steam counter averages pretty decent.

That being said, I've had some issues with a Minecraft 1.12.2 homemade modpack having 10-15 FPS less on average on Linux than I do on Windows (same memory allocation).

I've installed the proprietary Nvidia driver though I haven't done any configuration tweaks. I've also installed and set up Autocomposer and Feral Gamemode and enabled them on all relevant games.

I'm running a dual 1080p monitor setup, the primary is 144 Hz through Display port and the other is 60 Hz through HDMI.

Proton Experimental/ GE-Proton 9-4 pre-rendered cutscene distortion

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 19:00

Hi everybody,

i like linux (EndevourOS/ Arch) alot. Everything i want it to do works as intended. Something I still haven't figured out are the ingame FMV's of some of my favourite games. The screenshot is from Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black water. Both Proton Experimental and GE-Proton 9-4 are able to play pre-rendered cutscenes in this game. But they look like one big LSD-trip...

I tried to encode the FMV into VP9. The game uses the new encoded cutscene and plays it. But i still get these wild color patterns. The game plays fine, but it is rather difficult to follow the story when i am not able to enjoy these cutscenes.

Are there people who experience the same? Did you fix it? To whom do i have to talk to help fix this?

Are vJoy and Universal Control Remapper supported for Linux? Or any equivalents?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 17:52

Originally I posted this with Mint in mind, now I'm using OpenSUSE Leap with KDE Plasma, but from what I understand the distro doesn't really matter.

How do I install DF Hack on Dwarf Fortress from Linux software manager ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 17:16

Hello,

I wanted to try to play Dwarf Fortress from the official depot of my Linux Mint software manager, which works, but I would also like to install DF Hack on that DF build.

I am able to install it on a manual DF build in a dedicated folder, by dragging all the DF Hack files in the DF root folder and all, but the problem is that the DF build from software manager seem to be scattered across several folders.

So as the DF Hack website explains, I tried dropping all the files where the "data" folder is, which seems to be in /home/user/.local/share/dwarf-fortress/run/ but that did not work.

In fact the only other place I could find other DF files is /home/user/.config/dwarf-fortress/ but I guess there are still many files I could not find.

I'm very new to Linux so if anyone can help me with this I would be so glad. Really, doing this is not necessary, but I kind of want to figure out how things works through such an installation, for the sake of learning and getting more confortable with my system.

So yeah, any help and insight into this would make me very happy, thank you so much for reading anyway and have a nice day.

Does running a x86-64-v3 distro help with gaming performance ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 16:39

Shouldn't game that use AVX2 take advantage of AVX2 no matter the distro is x86-64 or x86-64-v3 ?

What is the best FPS-limiter on Linux in terms of latency & frame-pacing?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 14:27

Best frame-pacing is the main focus, lower latency is just a bonus for my usage.

When I used Windows, I used Special K.
It offered the best frame-pacing with low latency.

This benchmark is 4 years old, but Special K measured amazing here (take a look at frame-pacing):
https://www.reddit.com/r/allbenchmarks/comments/gohkn9/specialks_frame_rate_limiter_review_dx11_based/

It improved tremendously since then.

But, Special K relies on Windows DWM compositor for most of its optimizations, so running it under Wine is not a great experience.

I'm looking for an alternative way to limit FPS in games.
What is your recommendation regarding this?

I doubt that gamescope, mangohud, dxvk or any other FPS limiter on Linux can come close to Special K's fps limiter performance (although it's not measured or benchmarked afaik), but I would like to have the best experience I can have in this regard.

Will a game still be rendered off-screen?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 14:08

So I was just wandering, if I have 2 games open, one in a different workspace, and I switch between them, will one game stop being rendered while the other game on the screen in a different workspace and vice versa?

I would like to have 2 games open and switch between them, because one game has a timer that I have to wait for which is like 15 minutes, so I'd like to swap out to another game while waiting. I don't quite know how game rendering works internally on linux, my naive guess is that since the other game isn't on-screen, there's no reason for the PC to render it?

WinLicense A Debugger has been found (Helldivers 2)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 14:08

Trying to run Helldivers 2 on my fresh ubuntu installation from steam that was installed from the software store application (dunno if this was the correct version to install or if it would have been better getting the .deb version). People on ProtonDB seem to have success but every time I try to run I am met with this box popup and I can't find much online about it...

games ran with lutris/wine stop working after computer reboot

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 13:43

i'm having this weird issue where after initally installing everything (wine, dependencies, lutris, game) everything works just fine, as intended, but after rebooting my computer the applications launch but crash almost right after. i thought i'd broken something somehow by accident and "fixed" it by reinstalling my entire system yesterday but clearly that was not the case as it happened again.

i might've done some changes before i turned off my system but nothing that really should affect wine, except maybe setting my primary monitor, however i did play both of my games just fine before shutting down.

some system info:
endeavouros, xfce4
kernel 6.8.7
nvidia gpu with driver 550.67

lutris debug + crash dialog logs for both games: freestyle gunz and osu!

RSL-Helper for RAID: Shadow Legends?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19. April 2024 - 12:33

Hi dived into some RAID Shadow legends, the launcher (Plarium Play) works nicely via Lutris, I just don't have much luck running RSL-Helper in there (I installed it in same prefix, and changed Lutris executable to RSL-helper, but it fails silently, logs just show it started and immediately ended).

I've seen in Steam disussion one commenter mentions he is able to run RSL-Helper, but I don't see any way to contact him.

Anybody had any luck with RSL-Helper? Any tips hugely appreciated.
