Testing Elden Ring on Linux CachyOS
Testing it on the CachyOS distro, I’ve noticed in Elden Ring and other games these strange artifacts in the shadows forming triangles. I’m not sure whether it’s a Linux issue or something with the game itself, though it’s odd that it happens in more than one game. Does anyone know what this could be, or has anyone experienced it and managed to fix it?
These are the launch parameters I’m using:
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink gamemoderun %command%
Proton: CachyOS 10.0.... native

Question on optiscaler and DLSS with RDNA4
Hey folks, just switched from Turing to RDNA 4 because of the 4nm process, FP8 based upscaling capability and RADV which ensure the longevity of the product. NVIDIA has just released model L and M for DLSS upscaling capability. I hope it is not a stupid question, is there a way for RDNA4 card to take advantage of the new NVIDIA released model during Optiscaler injection, or to I have to wait AMD to release it’s counterpart model for me to get a better experience? Since closed source nature of FP8 based upscaling(at least for now), I assume that part stored in firmware(instead of kernel space and user space), can we count on AMDs good will that it will provide support for firmware update for the extended period of time?

Help me decide
So I've had encounters with Linux many times throughout the years, from working in linux based servers to other friends PC's, but what I wanted to know is how the gaming space is really on Linux. For context I mostly play fps games, such as marvel rivals, cs2 and some other genre's like sandbox games and even emulation, however I'm not sure if all of those work smoothly on Linux, if anyone has a guide or some other info for this it would be extremely useful.
As for the title post I would like some guidance as to if it is worth it, Should I finally ditch windows? I do a lot of coding, right now specifically I'm working on a project with my college with visual studio specifically, however I'm unsure whether this is windows only ( I'm aware that there is a Mac version but I think it's not being maintained ), and I wonder if there's an alternative. Also if anyone knows if there is a possibility of SSMS working on Linux. Thanks for any advice.

Thinking about ditching Windows, help me out
Hi, I will have soon a 7800X3D and a 9070XT. I'm trying to get away from all these cancer companies like microsoft and I wanted to know if it's possible to have the same performances if not better on Linux when gaming. I play mostly single player games but I also care about stuff like ray tracing, modding games and path tracing besides FSR and multi frame. Is Anti-cheat also a big problem? so I can't play online games?

HUGE Performance Difference on Linux (CachyOS) Vs Windows 11
Moving over?
I'm considering moving over to Linux but I wonder about the state of nvdia 50 series drivers for it (5080) I'm not a super hard core gamer but my factory in satisfactory is getting pretty big and I don't wanna deal with my graphics screwing up in warthunder. Any advice?

Linux noob, need assistance with nvidia bs.
Okay so I recently switched from windows when they force updated me to 11 while I was asleep. On windows I could get 120 frames on almost any game I played with the exact same hardware. I've narrowed down the issue to the graphics cards drivers through some trial and error. After trying all the avalable drivers default on the mint distro im still getting seconds per frame and massive performance issues. I'm using a "NVIDIA Corporation TU116 [GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER]". Before like I said I could play damn near anything at at least 60fps now I'm lucky if a game loads entirely and the performance typically looks like this:
The Driver I've had the best sucess with is the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau driver. I've even tried downloading official nvidia linux drivers from the website but at best I can now get 10 frames a second with the xserver driver.
If I can't find a solution at the very least, what new graphics card do you guys recommend I'm using mint btw.

Hytale crashing after about 5-10 minutes of gameplay everytime
On NixOS using a flake, launcher works, game works, for about 5-10 minutes, and then amd gpu ring timeout happens and resets. Crashing game
AMD 9070XT AMD Ryzen 9950x3d
This is the only game that does this. I assume because its early access? but I have heard nothing but success on this subreddit about this game so idk

Slow download speeds on steam
literally just changed from Xubuntu to pop_os 24.04 and the download speed just dropped like crazy, it's taking around 30 minutes to download CS2 for example and I don't know why, my pc is a Omen 16L desktop (I haven't changed anything so it's still stock)

Lenrual is out now for Linux!
Hi y'all. Just recently released the Linux build for my game.
Lenrual is a weird environmental puzzle game.
If you're into a mini-myst-like with ghibli/Journey-esque aesthetics and The Witness style interactions, you might like this.
You can check it out on Steam here:

Even more AMD ray tracing performance improvements heading to Mesa on Linux
More improvements coming for ray-tracing performance with Mesa. There was recently mentioned other work, most recent involves compiling any-hit/intersection shaders separately, which leads to massive improvements.

Is MHWilds Performance Throttled by an Expensive Instruction Loop?
I did some additional investigation on Linux (Arch Linux + ProtonGE) and noticed an interesting behavior worth sharing.
While monitoring logs, I observed that the game frequently executes the SGDTinstruction. The spam is so heavy that the kernel had to suppress the output to prevent log flooding:
SGDT is a low-level x86 instruction often associated with environment probing, anti-tamper, or DRM-related logic. On systems with UMIP (User-Mode Instruction Prevention) enabled, this instruction is blocked in user space and handled via "expensive software emulation" in the kernel.
Executing this "expensive" emulation in a tight loop during gameplay creates significant CPU overhead, which likely contributes to:
- Frametime Spikes & Intermittent FPS drops
- Abnormal CPU usage
- Higher CPU temperatures (I observed spikes up to 90°C during stutter events)
Additional Observation: When testing with the kernel parameter: clearcpuid=514 (or using clearcpuid=umip to effectively disable UMIP), stuttering was noticeably reduced and frametime appeared more stable on the test system.
For those using GRUB, you can test this by adding the parameter to your config: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash clearcpuid=umip"
This may indicate that the performance hit is related to CPU feature probing or environment checks, though this was only observed on Linux + Proton.
