NVIDIA’s prime-run was crappy so i made a drop in replacement for it

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 15:53

Hello gamers, I’ve made a simple script that aims to replace and expand on prime-run for slightly more convinient way of running games without a launcher.

Some may ask why, mostly because I was used to running games on my disk via file manager. Yes, Windows-y thing to do, but I believe I am not alone on that and this aims to be a solution for gaining best performance out of your hardware without relying on the launcher if you don’t like them.

As many people know, prime-run is strictly for offloading rendering to NVIDIA gpus on laptops with integrated and descrete gpus, true. This also supports amd dual gpus and runs gamemode, mangohud, and gamescope if they’re available on your system. Another thing I’ve added is configurarion (on top of the script) for gamescope. Without learning what each parameter does what for gamescope, i’ve made some values so you can just edit and adjust to your needs.

I’m more than happy to hear your feedback on this and how I can improve it further for people that may need this. I’ll make GitHub page more detailed as I improve on it.

All in all, happy gaming! 😁

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 15:28

I'm getting an RX 9060 XT tomorrow, my current GPU is an RTX 3060 and I have the official Nvidia drivers installed I think. Do I need to uninstall my old drivers like on windows or anything else? What about my precompiled shaders from steam?

Is my game ready for the Steam Next Fest? [Demo available]

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 14:45

Hello,

We are 20 days away from the Steam Next Fest and I am in that phase where I'm looking at my Steam page and wondering if it’s actually good at all.

For those of you who like the MOBA genre, It would be great if you could give some advice or feedback about my game and my Steam page: Does it make you want to try it out?

  • The Capsule: Is the art good at all?
  • The Trailer: Is it engaging enough?
  • The Demo (Most important part), If you have the time to try (size <300mb)

Adversator on Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4072270/Adversator/

I have a limited window to try to polish everything before the Fest starts.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 10:29

Hello, I have a problem with Arma Reforger Tools and Im looking for someone to give me some tips or pointers on what to try.

It mostly works, I only have a problem when I try to execute a specific function that opens up 2 popups. And then I can't click on it.

Im on EndevourOS with Hyprland, tried switching to KDE and this problem still persiststs. Also tried switching to different proton versions and it also didnt work. This software can only be obtained through Steam so I don't know what else I can try.

Can I try reporting this somewhere else?

Should I just go with stock Fedora instead of Nobara?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 09:18

I started on Nobara (Gnome) and quickly ran into issues with my multi-monitor setup. So I switched to CachyOS and mostly I'd say it's fine but I've found a few things I actively dislike and in general it feels a little too "serious" so I want to head back to Nobara.

The thing is I'm seeing a lot of chatter on here that gaming distros are largely unnecessary.

What, if anything, do I actually need to do to get a good gaming experience with Fedora? Is it really just install Steam and off I go? I pretty much only game on Steam. Assuming that, is there anything else I'd genuinely benefit from using Nobara for?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 08:57

It's a generic knock off xbox Controler, worked fine on Windows. The Bluetooth manager cans see it and says it connected but steam can't detect it. What am I missing?

Mayflash SNES to usb adapter (MF105) support for linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 07:50

I recently started using Fedora linux 43 and tried to use my Mayflash adapter to use my SNES controller to play super mario world. However the device does not show up as a controller at all.

After much searching, I have identified that the Mayflash adapter isn't registered as a regular HID device, but as a Vendor Specific usb debice. My question is, are there any drivers or tricks I can try to get it working in linux? or am I just shit out of luck :(

Thanks in advance!

Positive venting post: VR on Linux has come a *far* way...

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Februar 2026 - 07:35

I am an avid Elite: Dangerous VR player. VR-Support in linux was the main reason I couldn't completely switch from windows. But... I’m seriously blown away and shocked at how much progress Linux VR support has made! And thanks to AI assistance, I managed to pull together exactly the right information in no time to get everything running just as smoothly as on Windows, with WiVRn and WayVR on Fedora 43, KDE.

Getting Elite: Dangerous running in VR:

Bindings from the Windows install: imported super easily.

EDMC: native Linux version available.

My Exo-Bio tool “Exploration Buddy” and EDOMH: both run perfectly in a compatibility layer (Bottles) and (from a user perspective) work exactly the same as on Windows — click the app → it just runs.

And the VR? I use WiVRn and it is amazing. And WayVR as a VR-Overlay. WayVR is actually better than the SteamVR overlay: I can easily assign any app its own freely positionable VR window, and I can place it anywhere in the running VR game/app even more conveniently than ever with SteamVR on Windows. Plus it’s more stable than SteamVR. I used to get tons of SteamVR crashes because of the overlay window (or something else) making SteamVR go nuts.

Insane. Seriously insane. And the best part? SteamVR gets completely bypassed (in games that can run with OpenXR - so the game has way less overhead and runs roughly 10–15% faster, which means more graphical detail and higher resolution in the headset.

Wow. Thank you all you hardworking devs making this possible. Truly, thank you!
